ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਰਾਏ
सतिगुरु दाता मुकति कराए ॥
Saṯgur ḏāṯā mukaṯ karā▫e.
The True Guru, the Giver, grants liberation;

ਸਭਿ ਰੋਗ ਗਵਾਏ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਏ
सभि रोग गवाए अम्रित रसु पाए ॥
Sabẖ rog gavā▫e amriṯ ras pā▫e.
all diseases are eradicated, and one is blessed with the Ambrosial Nectar.

ਜਮੁ ਜਾਗਾਤਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਰੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਅਗਨਿ ਬੁਝੀ ਠਰੁ ਸੀਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੫॥
जमु जागाति नाही करु लागै जिसु अगनि बुझी ठरु सीना हे ॥५॥
Jam jāgāṯ nāhī kar lāgai jis agan bujẖī ṯẖar sīnā he. ||5||
Death, the tax collector, does not impose any tax on one whose inner fire has been put out, whose heart is cool and tranquil. ||5||

ਕਾਇਆ ਹੰਸ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਬਹੁ ਧਾਰੀ
काइआ हंस प्रीति बहु धारी ॥
Kā▫i▫ā hans parīṯ baho ḏẖārī.
The body has developed a great love for the soul-swan.

ਓਹੁ ਜੋਗੀ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਓਹ ਸੁੰਦਰਿ ਨਾਰੀ
ओहु जोगी पुरखु ओह सुंदरि नारी ॥
Oh jogī purakẖ oh sunḏar nārī.
He is a Yogi, and she is a beautiful woman.

ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਭੋਗੈ ਚੋਜ ਬਿਨੋਦੀ ਉਠਿ ਚਲਤੈ ਮਤਾ ਕੀਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੬॥
अहिनिसि भोगै चोज बिनोदी उठि चलतै मता न कीना हे ॥६॥
Ahinis bẖogai cẖoj binoḏī uṯẖ cẖalṯai maṯā na kīnā he. ||6||
Day and night, he enjoys her with delight, and then he arises and departs without consulting her. ||6||

ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਇ ਰਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਛਾਜੈ
स्रिसटि उपाइ रहे प्रभ छाजै ॥
Sarisat upā▫e rahe parabẖ cẖẖājai.
Creating the Universe, God remains diffused throughout it.

ਪਉਣ ਪਾਣੀ ਬੈਸੰਤਰੁ ਗਾਜੈ
पउण पाणी बैसंतरु गाजै ॥
Pa▫uṇ pāṇī baisanṯar gājai.
In the wind, water and fire, He vibrates and resounds.

ਮਨੂਆ ਡੋਲੈ ਦੂਤ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਸੋ ਪਾਏ ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕੀਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੭॥
मनूआ डोलै दूत संगति मिलि सो पाए जो किछु कीना हे ॥७॥
Manū▫ā dolai ḏūṯ sangaṯ mil so pā▫e jo kicẖẖ kīnā he. ||7||
The mind wavers, keeping company with evil passions; one obtains the rewards of his own actions. ||7||

ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ਦੋਖ ਦੁਖ ਸਹੀਐ
नामु विसारि दोख दुख सहीऐ ॥
Nām visār ḏokẖ ḏukẖ sahī▫ai.
Forgetting the Naam, one suffers the misery of his evil ways.

ਹੁਕਮੁ ਭਇਆ ਚਲਣਾ ਕਿਉ ਰਹੀਐ
हुकमु भइआ चलणा किउ रहीऐ ॥
Hukam bẖa▫i▫ā cẖalṇā ki▫o rahī▫ai.
When the order to depart is issued, how can he remain here?

ਨਰਕ ਕੂਪ ਮਹਿ ਗੋਤੇ ਖਾਵੈ ਜਿਉ ਜਲ ਤੇ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਮੀਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੮॥
नरक कूप महि गोते खावै जिउ जल ते बाहरि मीना हे ॥८॥
Narak kūp mėh goṯe kẖāvai ji▫o jal ṯe bāhar mīnā he. ||8||
He falls into the pit of hell, and suffers like a fish out of water. ||8||

ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਨਰਕ ਸਾਕਤੁ ਭੋਗਾਈਐ
चउरासीह नरक साकतु भोगाईऐ ॥
Cẖa▫orāsīh narak sākaṯ bẖogā▫ī▫ai.
The faithless cynic has to endure 8.4 million hellish incarnations.

ਜੈਸਾ ਕੀਚੈ ਤੈਸੋ ਪਾਈਐ
जैसा कीचै तैसो पाईऐ ॥
Jaisā kīcẖai ṯaiso pā▫ī▫ai.
As he acts, so does he suffer.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਹੋਈ ਕਿਰਤਿ ਬਾਧਾ ਗ੍ਰਸਿ ਦੀਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੯॥
सतिगुर बाझहु मुकति न होई किरति बाधा ग्रसि दीना हे ॥९॥
Saṯgur bājẖahu mukaṯ na ho▫ī kiraṯ bāḏẖā garas ḏīnā he. ||9||
Without the True Guru, there is no liberation. Bound and gagged by his own actions, he is helpless. ||9||

ਖੰਡੇ ਧਾਰ ਗਲੀ ਅਤਿ ਭੀੜੀ
खंडे धार गली अति भीड़ी ॥
Kẖande ḏẖār galī aṯ bẖīṛī.
This path is very narrow, like the sharp edge of a sword.

ਲੇਖਾ ਲੀਜੈ ਤਿਲ ਜਿਉ ਪੀੜੀ
लेखा लीजै तिल जिउ पीड़ी ॥
Lekẖā lījai ṯil ji▫o pīṛī.
When his account is read, he shall be crushed like the sesame seed in the mill.

ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਕਲਤ੍ਰ ਸੁਤ ਬੇਲੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕੀਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥
मात पिता कलत्र सुत बेली नाही बिनु हरि रस मुकति न कीना हे ॥१०॥
Māṯ piṯā kalṯar suṯ belī nāhī bin har ras mukaṯ na kīnā he. ||10||
Mother, father, spouse and child - none is anyone's friend in the end. Without the Lord's Love, no one is liberated. ||10||

ਮੀਤ ਸਖੇ ਕੇਤੇ ਜਗ ਮਾਹੀ
मीत सखे केते जग माही ॥
Mīṯ sakẖe keṯe jag māhī.
You may have many friends and companions in the world,

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਾਹੀ
बिनु गुर परमेसर कोई नाही ॥
Bin gur parmesar ko▫ī nāhī.
but without the Guru, the Transcendent Lord Incarnate, there is no one at all.

ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਪਰਾਇਣਿ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਕੀਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥
गुर की सेवा मुकति पराइणि अनदिनु कीरतनु कीना हे ॥११॥
Gur kī sevā mukaṯ parā▫iṇ an▫ḏin kīrṯan kīnā he. ||11||
Service to the Guru is the way to liberation. Night and day, sing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises. ||11||

ਕੂੜੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਸਾਚੇ ਕਉ ਧਾਵਹੁ
कूड़ु छोडि साचे कउ धावहु ॥
Kūṛ cẖẖod sācẖe ka▫o ḏẖāvahu.
Abandon falsehood, and pursue the Truth,

ਜੋ ਇਛਹੁ ਸੋਈ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਵਹੁ
जो इछहु सोई फलु पावहु ॥
Jo icẖẖahu so▫ī fal pāvhu.
and you shall obtain the fruits of your desires.

ਸਾਚ ਵਖਰ ਕੇ ਵਾਪਾਰੀ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਲੈ ਲਾਹਾ ਸਉਦਾ ਕੀਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥
साच वखर के वापारी विरले लै लाहा सउदा कीना हे ॥१२॥
Sācẖ vakẖar ke vāpārī virle lai lāhā sa▫uḏā kīnā he. ||12||
Very few are those who trade in the merchandise of Truth. Those who deal in it, obtain the true profit. ||12||

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਰੁ ਲੈ ਚਲਹੁ
हरि हरि नामु वखरु लै चलहु ॥
Har har nām vakẖar lai cẖalhu.
Depart with the merchandise of the Name of the Lord, Har, Har,

ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪਾਵਹੁ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਹਲਹੁ
दरसनु पावहु सहजि महलहु ॥
Ḏarsan pāvhu sahj mahlahu.
and you shall intuitively obtain the Blessed Vision of His Darshan, in the Mansion of His Presence.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਖੋਜਿ ਲਹਹਿ ਜਨ ਪੂਰੇ ਇਉ ਸਮਦਰਸੀ ਚੀਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥
गुरमुखि खोजि लहहि जन पूरे इउ समदरसी चीना हे ॥१३॥
Gurmukẖ kẖoj lahėh jan pūre i▫o samaḏrasī cẖīnā he. ||13||
The Gurmukhs search for Him and find Him; they are the perfect humble beings. In this way, they see Him, who looks upon all alike. ||13||

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਕੋ ਪਾਵਹਿ
प्रभ बेअंत गुरमति को पावहि ॥
Parabẖ be▫anṯ gurmaṯ ko pāvahi.
God is endless; following the Guru's Teachings, some find Him.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਨ ਕਉ ਸਮਝਾਵਹਿ
गुर कै सबदि मन कउ समझावहि ॥
Gur kai sabaḏ man ka▫o samjẖāvahi.
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, they instruct their minds.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨਹੁ ਇਉ ਆਤਮ ਰਾਮੈ ਲੀਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥
सतिगुर की बाणी सति सति करि मानहु इउ आतम रामै लीना हे ॥१४॥
Saṯgur kī baṇī saṯ saṯ kar mānhu i▫o āṯam rāmai līnā he. ||14||
Accept as True, Perfectly True, the Word of the True Guru's Bani. In this way, you shall merge in the Lord, the Supreme Soul. ||14||

ਨਾਰਦ ਸਾਰਦ ਸੇਵਕ ਤੇਰੇ
नारद सारद सेवक तेरे ॥
Nāraḏ sāraḏ sevak ṯere.
Naarad and Saraswati are Your servants.

ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣਿ ਸੇਵਕ ਵਡਹੁ ਵਡੇਰੇ
त्रिभवणि सेवक वडहु वडेरे ॥
Ŧaribẖavaṇ sevak vadahu vadere.
Your servants are the greatest of the great, throughout the three worlds.

ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਤੂ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਦਾਤਾ ਸਭੁ ਤੇਰੋ ਕਾਰਣੁ ਕੀਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥
सभ तेरी कुदरति तू सिरि सिरि दाता सभु तेरो कारणु कीना हे ॥१५॥
Sabẖ ṯerī kuḏraṯ ṯū sir sir ḏāṯā sabẖ ṯero kāraṇ kīnā he. ||15||
Your creative power permeates all; You are the Great Giver of all. You created the whole creation. ||15||

ਇਕਿ ਦਰਿ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਦਰਦੁ ਵਞਾਏ
इकि दरि सेवहि दरदु वञाए ॥
Ik ḏar sevėh ḏaraḏ vañā▫e.
Some serve at Your Door, and their sufferings are dispelled.

ਓਇ ਦਰਗਹ ਪੈਧੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਛਡਾਏ
ओइ दरगह पैधे सतिगुरू छडाए ॥
O▫e ḏargėh paiḏẖe saṯgurū cẖẖadā▫e.
They are robed with honor in the Court of the Lord, and emancipated by the True Guru.

ਹਉਮੈ ਬੰਧਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਤੋੜੇ ਚਿਤੁ ਚੰਚਲੁ ਚਲਣਿ ਦੀਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥
हउमै बंधन सतिगुरि तोड़े चितु चंचलु चलणि न दीना हे ॥१६॥
Ha▫umai banḏẖan saṯgur ṯoṛe cẖiṯ cẖancẖal cẖalaṇ na ḏīnā he. ||16||
The True Guru breaks the bonds of egotism, and restrains the fickle consciousness. ||16||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਹੁ ਚੀਨਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਸਾਈ
सतिगुर मिलहु चीनहु बिधि साई ॥
Saṯgur milhu cẖīnahu biḏẖ sā▫ī.
Meet the True Guru, and search for the way,

ਜਿਤੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਵਹੁ ਗਣਤ ਕਾਈ
जितु प्रभु पावहु गणत न काई ॥
Jiṯ parabẖ pāvhu gaṇaṯ na kā▫ī.
by which you may find God, and not have to answer for your account.

ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਭੀਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੭॥੨॥੮॥
हउमै मारि करहु गुर सेवा जन नानक हरि रंगि भीना हे ॥१७॥२॥८॥
Ha▫umai mār karahu gur sevā jan Nānak har rang bẖīnā he. ||17||2||8||
Subdue your egotism, and serve the Guru; O servant Nanak, you shall be drenched with the Lord's Love. ||17||2||8||

ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ
मारू महला १ ॥
Mārū mėhlā 1.
Maaroo, First Mehl:

ਅਸੁਰ ਸਘਾਰਣ ਰਾਮੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ
असुर सघारण रामु हमारा ॥
Asur sagẖāraṇ rām hamārā.
My Lord is the Destroyer of demons.

ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਰਮਈਆ ਰਾਮੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ
घटि घटि रमईआ रामु पिआरा ॥
Gẖat gẖat rama▫ī▫ā rām pi▫ārā.
My Beloved Lord is pervading each and every heart.

ਨਾਲੇ ਅਲਖੁ ਲਖੀਐ ਮੂਲੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਲਿਖੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ਹੇ ॥੧॥
नाले अलखु न लखीऐ मूले गुरमुखि लिखु वीचारा हे ॥१॥
Nāle alakẖ na lakẖī▫ai mūle gurmukẖ likẖ vīcẖārā he. ||1||
The unseen Lord is always with us, but He is not seen at all. The Gurmukh contemplates the record. ||1||

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਸਰਣਿ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ
गुरमुखि साधू सरणि तुमारी ॥
Gurmukẖ sāḏẖū saraṇ ṯumārī.
The Holy Gurmukh seeks Your Sanctuary.
