Maaroo, Fifth Mehl:

ਜੀਵਨਾ ਸਫਲ ਜੀਵਨ ਸੁਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਜਪਿ ਸਦ ਜੀਵਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ
जीवना सफल जीवन सुनि हरि जपि जपि सद जीवना ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Jīvnā safal jīvan sun har jap jap saḏ jīvnā. ||1|| rahā▫o.
Fruitful is the life, the life of one who hears about the Lord, and chants and meditates on Him; he lives forever. ||1||Pause||

ਪੀਵਨਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਮਨੁ ਆਘਾਵੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਵਨਾ ॥੧॥
पीवना जितु मनु आघावै नामु अम्रित रसु पीवना ॥१॥
Pīvnā jiṯ man āgẖāvai nām amriṯ ras pīvnā. ||1||
The real drink is that which satisfies the mind; this drink is the sublime essence of the Ambrosial Naam. ||1||

ਖਾਵਨਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਭੂਖ ਲਾਗੈ ਸੰਤੋਖਿ ਸਦਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤੀਵਨਾ ॥੨॥
खावना जितु भूख न लागै संतोखि सदा त्रिपतीवना ॥२॥
Kẖāvnā jiṯ bẖūkẖ na lāgai sanṯokẖ saḏā ṯaripṯīvnā. ||2||
The real food is that which will never leave you hungry again; it will leave you contented and satisfied forever. ||2||

ਪੈਨਣਾ ਰਖੁ ਪਤਿ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰ ਫਿਰਿ ਨਾਗੇ ਨਹੀ ਥੀਵਨਾ ॥੩॥
पैनणा रखु पति परमेसुर फिरि नागे नही थीवना ॥३॥
Painṇā rakẖ paṯ parmesur fir nāge nahī thīvnā. ||3||
The real clothes are those which protect your honor before the Transcendent Lord, and do not leave you naked ever again. ||3||

ਭੋਗਨਾ ਮਨ ਮਧੇ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਸੰਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਹਿ ਲੀਵਨਾ ॥੪॥
भोगना मन मधे हरि रसु संतसंगति महि लीवना ॥४॥
Bẖognā man maḏẖe har ras sanṯsangaṯ mėh līvnā. ||4||
The real enjoyment within the mind is to be absorbed in the sublime essence of the Lord, in the Society of the Saints. ||4||

ਬਿਨੁ ਤਾਗੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਸੂਈ ਆਨੀ ਮਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤੀ ਸੰਗਿ ਸੀਵਨਾ ॥੫॥
बिनु तागे बिनु सूई आनी मनु हरि भगती संगि सीवना ॥५॥
Bin ṯāge bin sū▫ī ānī man har bẖagṯī sang sīvnā. ||5||
Sew devotional worship to the Lord into the mind, without any needle or thread. ||5||

ਮਾਤਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਕਬਹੂ ਅਉਖੀਵਨਾ ॥੬॥
मातिआ हरि रस महि राते तिसु बहुड़ि न कबहू अउखीवना ॥६॥
Māṯi▫ā har ras mėh rāṯe ṯis bahuṛ na kabhū a▫ukẖīvanā. ||6||
Imbued and intoxicated with the sublime essence of the Lord, this experience will never wear off again. ||6||

ਮਿਲਿਓ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਰਬ ਨਿਧਾਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਦੀਵਨਾ ॥੭॥
मिलिओ तिसु सरब निधाना प्रभि क्रिपालि जिसु दीवना ॥७॥
Mili▫o ṯis sarab niḏẖānā parabẖ kirpāl jis ḏīvnā. ||7||
One is blessed with all treasures, when God, in His Mercy, gives them. ||7||

ਸੁਖੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਚਰਣ ਸੰਤ ਧੋਇ ਪੀਵਨਾ ॥੮॥੩॥੬॥
सुखु नानक संतन की सेवा चरण संत धोइ पीवना ॥८॥३॥६॥
Sukẖ Nānak sanṯan kī sevā cẖaraṇ sanṯ ḏẖo▫e pīvnā. ||8||3||6||
O Nanak, service to the Saints beings peace; I drink in the wash water of the feet of the Saints. ||8||3||6||

ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ਘਰੁ ਅੰਜੁਲੀਆ

Mārū mėhlā 5 gẖar 8 anjulī▫ā
Maaroo, Fifth Mehl, Eighth House, Anjulees ~ With Hands Cupped In Prayer:

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ
ੴ सतिगुर प्रसादि ॥
Ik▫oaʼnkār saṯgur parsāḏ.
One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਜਿਸੁ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਤਿਸੈ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਚਿੰਤਾ
जिसु ग्रिहि बहुतु तिसै ग्रिहि चिंता ॥
Jis garihi bahuṯ ṯisai garihi cẖinṯā.
The household which is filled with abundance - that household suffers anxiety.

ਜਿਸੁ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਥੋਰੀ ਸੁ ਫਿਰੈ ਭ੍ਰਮੰਤਾ
जिसु ग्रिहि थोरी सु फिरै भ्रमंता ॥
Jis garihi thorī so firai bẖarmanṯā.
One whose household has little, wanders around searching for more.

ਦੁਹੂ ਬਿਵਸਥਾ ਤੇ ਜੋ ਮੁਕਤਾ ਸੋਈ ਸੁਹੇਲਾ ਭਾਲੀਐ ॥੧॥
दुहू बिवसथा ते जो मुकता सोई सुहेला भालीऐ ॥१॥
Ḏuhū bivasthā ṯe jo mukṯā so▫ī suhelā bẖālī▫ai. ||1||
He alone is happy and at peace, who is liberated from both conditions. ||1||

ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਰਾਜ ਮਹਿ ਨਰਕੁ ਉਦਾਸ ਕਰੋਧਾ
ग्रिह राज महि नरकु उदास करोधा ॥
Garih rāj mėh narak uḏās karoḏẖā.
Householders and kings fall into hell, along with renunciates and angry men,

ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਬੇਦ ਪਾਠ ਸਭਿ ਸੋਧਾ
बहु बिधि बेद पाठ सभि सोधा ॥
Baho biḏẖ beḏ pāṯẖ sabẖ soḏẖā.
and all those who study and recite the Vedas in so many ways.

ਦੇਹੀ ਮਹਿ ਜੋ ਰਹੈ ਅਲਿਪਤਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਘਾਲੀਐ ॥੨॥
देही महि जो रहै अलिपता तिसु जन की पूरन घालीऐ ॥२॥
Ḏehī mėh jo rahai alipaṯā ṯis jan kī pūran gẖālī▫ai. ||2||
Perfect is the work of that humble servant, who remains unattached while in the body. ||2||

ਜਾਗਤ ਸੂਤਾ ਭਰਮਿ ਵਿਗੂਤਾ
जागत सूता भरमि विगूता ॥
Jāgaṯ sūṯā bẖaram vigūṯā.
The mortal sleeps, even while he is awake; he is being plundered by doubt.

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਹੋਈਐ ਮੀਤਾ
बिनु गुर मुकति न होईऐ मीता ॥
Bin gur mukaṯ na ho▫ī▫ai mīṯā.
Without the Guru, liberation is not obtained, friend.

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਤੁਟਹਿ ਹਉ ਬੰਧਨ ਏਕੋ ਏਕੁ ਨਿਹਾਲੀਐ ॥੩॥
साधसंगि तुटहि हउ बंधन एको एकु निहालीऐ ॥३॥
Sāḏẖsang ṯutėh ha▫o banḏẖan eko ek nihālī▫ai. ||3||
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, the bonds of egotism are released, and one comes to behold the One and only Lord. ||3||

ਕਰਮ ਕਰੈ ਬੰਧਾ ਨਹ ਕਰੈ ਨਿੰਦਾ
करम करै त बंधा नह करै त निंदा ॥
Karam karai ṯa banḏẖā nah karai ṯa ninḏā.
Doing deeds, one is placed in bondage; but if he does not act, he is slandered.

ਮੋਹ ਮਗਨ ਮਨੁ ਵਿਆਪਿਆ ਚਿੰਦਾ
मोह मगन मनु विआपिआ चिंदा ॥
Moh magan man vi▫āpi▫ā cẖinḏā.
Intoxicated with emotional attachment, the mind is afflicted with anxiety.

ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਸਮ ਜਾਣੈ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਰਾਮੁ ਹਿਆਲੀਐ ॥੪॥
गुर प्रसादि सुखु दुखु सम जाणै घटि घटि रामु हिआलीऐ ॥४॥
Gur parsāḏ sukẖ ḏukẖ sam jāṇai gẖat gẖat rām hi▫ālī▫ai. ||4||
One who looks alike upon pleasure and pain, by Guru's Grace, sees the Lord in each and every heart. ||4||

ਸੰਸਾਰੈ ਮਹਿ ਸਹਸਾ ਬਿਆਪੈ
संसारै महि सहसा बिआपै ॥
Sansārai mėh sahsā bi▫āpai.
Within the world, one is afflicted by skepticism;

ਅਕਥ ਕਥਾ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਪੈ
अकथ कथा अगोचर नही जापै ॥
Akath kathā agocẖar nahī jāpai.
he does not know the imperceptible Unspoken Speech of the Lord.

ਜਿਸਹਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਸੋਈ ਬੂਝੈ ਓਹੁ ਬਾਲਕ ਵਾਗੀ ਪਾਲੀਐ ॥੫॥
जिसहि बुझाए सोई बूझै ओहु बालक वागी पालीऐ ॥५॥
Jisahi bujẖā▫e so▫ī būjẖai oh bālak vāgī pālī▫ai. ||5||
He alone understands, whom the Lord inspires to understand. The Lord cherishes him as His child. ||5||

ਛੋਡਿ ਬਹੈ ਤਉ ਛੂਟੈ ਨਾਹੀ
छोडि बहै तउ छूटै नाही ॥
Cẖẖod bahai ṯa▫o cẖẖūtai nāhī.
He may try to abandon Maya, but he is not released.

ਜਉ ਸੰਚੈ ਤਉ ਭਉ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ
जउ संचै तउ भउ मन माही ॥
Ja▫o sancẖai ṯa▫o bẖa▫o man māhī.
If he collects things, then his mind is afraid of losing them.

ਇਸ ਹੀ ਮਹਿ ਜਿਸ ਕੀ ਪਤਿ ਰਾਖੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਚਉਰੁ ਢਾਲੀਐ ॥੬॥
इस ही महि जिस की पति राखै तिसु साधू चउरु ढालीऐ ॥६॥
Is hī mėh jis kī paṯ rākẖai ṯis sāḏẖū cẖa▫ur dẖālī▫ai. ||6||
I wave the fly-brush over that holy person, whose honor is protected in the midst of Maya. ||6||

ਜੋ ਸੂਰਾ ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਹੋਇ ਮਰਣਾ
जो सूरा तिस ही होइ मरणा ॥
Jo sūrā ṯis hī ho▫e marṇā.
He alone is a warrior hero, who remains dead to the world.

ਜੋ ਭਾਗੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਜੋਨੀ ਫਿਰਣਾ
जो भागै तिसु जोनी फिरणा ॥
Jo bẖāgai ṯis jonī firṇā.
One who runs away will wander in reincarnation.

ਜੋ ਵਰਤਾਏ ਸੋਈ ਭਲ ਮਾਨੈ ਬੁਝਿ ਹੁਕਮੈ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਜਾਲੀਐ ॥੭॥
जो वरताए सोई भल मानै बुझि हुकमै दुरमति जालीऐ ॥७॥
Jo varṯā▫e so▫ī bẖal mānai bujẖ hukmai ḏurmaṯ jālī▫ai. ||7||
Whatever happens, accept that as good. Realize the Hukam of His Command, and your evil-mindedness will be burnt away. ||7||

ਜਿਤੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਲਾਵਹਿ ਤਿਤੁ ਤਿਤੁ ਲਗਨਾ
जितु जितु लावहि तितु तितु लगना ॥
Jiṯ jiṯ lāvėh ṯiṯ ṯiṯ lagnā.
Whatever He links us to, to that we are linked.

ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਅਪਣੇ ਜਚਨਾ
करि करि वेखै अपणे जचना ॥
Kar kar vekẖai apṇe jacẖnā.
He acts, and does, and watches over His Creation.

ਨਾਨਕ ਕੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਸੁਖਦਾਤੇ ਤੂ ਦੇਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲੀਐ ॥੮॥੧॥੭॥
नानक के पूरन सुखदाते तू देहि त नामु समालीऐ ॥८॥१॥७॥
Nānak ke pūran sukẖ▫ḏāṯe ṯū ḏėh ṯa nām samālī▫ai. ||8||1||7||
You are the Giver of peace, the Perfect Lord of Nanak; as You grant Your blessings, I dwell upon Your Name. ||8||1||7||

ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ
मारू महला ५ ॥

Maaroo, Fifth Mehl:

ਬਿਰਖੈ ਹੇਠਿ ਸਭਿ ਜੰਤ ਇਕਠੇ
बिरखै हेठि सभि जंत इकठे ॥
Birkẖai heṯẖ sabẖ janṯ ikṯẖe.
Beneath the tree, all beings have gathered.

ਇਕਿ ਤਤੇ ਇਕਿ ਬੋਲਨਿ ਮਿਠੇ
इकि तते इकि बोलनि मिठे ॥
Ik ṯaṯe ik bolan miṯẖe.
Some are hot-headed, and some speak very sweetly.

ਅਸਤੁ ਉਦੋਤੁ ਭਇਆ ਉਠਿ ਚਲੇ ਜਿਉ ਜਿਉ ਅਉਧ ਵਿਹਾਣੀਆ ॥੧॥
असतु उदोतु भइआ उठि चले जिउ जिउ अउध विहाणीआ ॥१॥
Asaṯ uḏoṯ bẖa▫i▫ā uṯẖ cẖale ji▫o ji▫o a▫oḏẖ vihāṇī▫ā. ||1||
Sunset has come, and they rise up and depart; their days have run their course and expired. ||1||

ਪਾਪ ਕਰੇਦੜ ਸਰਪਰ ਮੁਠੇ
पाप करेदड़ सरपर मुठे ॥
Pāp kareḏaṛ sarpar muṯẖe.
Those who committed sins are sure to be ruined.

ਅਜਰਾਈਲਿ ਫੜੇ ਫੜਿ ਕੁਠੇ
अजराईलि फड़े फड़ि कुठे ॥
Ajrā▫īl faṛe faṛ kuṯẖe.
Azraa-eel, the Angel of Death, seizes and tortures them.
