ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਮਨਾਏ ॥੭॥
गुर सेवा सदा सुखु है जिस नो हुकमु मनाए ॥७॥
Gur sevā saḏā sukẖ hai jis no hukam manā▫e. ||7||
He, whom the Lord makes obey His command, obtains eternal bliss by serving the Guru.

ਸੁਇਨਾ ਰੁਪਾ ਸਭ ਧਾਤੁ ਹੈ ਮਾਟੀ ਰਲਿ ਜਾਈ ॥
सुइना रुपा सभ धातु है माटी रलि जाई ॥
Su▫inā rupā sabẖ ḏẖāṯ hai mātī ral jā▫ī.
Gold and silver are all metals, which ultimately mix with dust.

ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਨਾਲਿ ਨ ਚਲਈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥
बिनु नावै नालि न चलई सतिगुरि बूझ बुझाई ॥
Bin nāvai nāl na cẖal▫ī saṯgur būjẖ bujẖā▫ī.
Without the Name, nothing goes with the man. The True Guru has imparted this understanding unto me.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੇ ਨਿਰਮਲੇ ਸਾਚੈ ਰਹੇ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੮॥੫॥
नानक नामि रते से निरमले साचै रहे समाई ॥८॥५॥
Nānak nām raṯe se nirmale sācẖai rahe samā▫ī. ||8||5||
Nanak, immaculate are they who are imbued with the Name and remain merged in the True Lord.

ਹੁਕਮੁ ਭਇਆ ਰਹਣਾ ਨਹੀ ਧੁਰਿ ਫਾਟੇ ਚੀਰੈ ॥
हुकमु भइआ रहणा नही धुरि फाटे चीरै ॥
Hukam bẖa▫i▫ā rahṇā nahī ḏẖur fāte cẖīrai.
When the order is issued and the torn letter of God is received, one can stay not here.

ਏਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਅਵਗਣਿ ਬਾਧਿਆ ਸਹੁ ਦੇਹ ਸਰੀਰੈ ॥
एहु मनु अवगणि बाधिआ सहु देह सरीरै ॥
Ėhu man avgaṇ bāḏẖi▫ā saho ḏeh sarīrai.
Bound to sins, this soul suffers massive bodily pains.
|
ਪੂਰੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਬਖਸਾਈਅਹਿ ਸਭਿ ਗੁਨਹ ਫਕੀਰੈ ॥੧॥
पूरै गुरि बखसाईअहि सभि गुनह फकीरै ॥१॥
Pūrai gur bakẖsā▫ī▫ah sabẖ gunah fakīrai. ||1||
All the sins of the mumper of the Lord's door are forgiven by the grace of the Perfect Guru.
|
ਕਿਉ ਰਹੀਐ ਉਠਿ ਚਲਣਾ ਬੁਝੁ ਸਬਦ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
किउ रहीऐ उठि चलणा बुझु सबद बीचारा ॥
Ki▫o rahī▫ai uṯẖ cẖalṇā bujẖ sabaḏ bīcẖārā.
How can man stay here? One has to depart from this world. So one should realise and reflect on the Lord.

ਜਿਸੁ ਤੂ ਮੇਲਹਿ ਸੋ ਮਿਲੈ ਧੁਰਿ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
जिसु तू मेलहि सो मिलै धुरि हुकमु अपारा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Jis ṯū melėh so milai ḏẖur hukam apārā. ||1|| rahā▫o.
Whomsoever Thou unite, he alone unites with Thee, such is Thy primal will, O Infinite Lord. Pause.
|
ਜਿਉ ਤੂ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਤਿਉ ਰਹਾ ਜੋ ਦੇਹਿ ਸੁ ਖਾਉ ॥
जिउ तू राखहि तिउ रहा जो देहि सु खाउ ॥
Ji▫o ṯū rākẖahi ṯi▫o rahā jo ḏėh so kẖā▫o.
As Thou keep me, so do I live and whatever Thou give me, that I eat.
|
ਜਿਉ ਤੂ ਚਲਾਵਹਿ ਤਿਉ ਚਲਾ ਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਉ ॥
जिउ तू चलावहि तिउ चला मुखि अम्रित नाउ ॥
Ji▫o ṯū cẖalāvėh ṯi▫o cẖalā mukẖ amriṯ nā▫o.
As Thou drive me, so am I driven and within my mouth, I enshrine Thy ambrosial Name

ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਵਡਿਆਈਆ ਮੇਲਹਿ ਮਨਿ ਚਾਉ ॥੨॥
मेरे ठाकुर हथि वडिआईआ मेलहि मनि चाउ ॥२॥
Mere ṯẖākur hath vaḏi▫ā▫ī▫ā melėh man cẖā▫o. ||2||
The glories are in the Hand of my Lord. My hearty yearning is that Thou unite me with Thyself.

ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿਆ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਐ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖੈ ਸੋਈ ॥
कीता किआ सालाहीऐ करि देखै सोई ॥
Kīṯā ki▫ā salāhī▫ai kar ḏekẖai so▫ī.
Why should one praise a created one, when the Lord alone does everything.
|
ਜਿਨਿ ਕੀਆ ਸੋ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਮੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥
जिनि कीआ सो मनि वसै मै अवरु न कोई ॥
Jin kī▫ā so man vasai mai avar na ko▫ī.
he, who created me, abides within my mind Except the Lord, I have not another.
|
ਸੋ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਐ ਸਾਚੀ ਪਤਿ ਹੋਈ ॥੩॥
सो साचा सालाहीऐ साची पति होई ॥३॥
So sācẖā salāhī▫ai sācẖī paṯ ho▫ī. ||3||
Praise thou that True Lord and thou shall be blessed with true honour.
|
ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਪੜਿ ਨ ਪਹੁਚਈ ਬਹੁ ਆਲ ਜੰਜਾਲਾ ॥
पंडितु पड़ि न पहुचई बहु आल जंजाला ॥
Pandiṯ paṛ na pahucẖa▫ī baho āl janjālā.
Involved in many domestic entanglements; the scholar attains not to the Lord's court by reading sacred texts.
|
ਪਾਪ ਪੁੰਨ ਦੁਇ ਸੰਗਮੇ ਖੁਧਿਆ ਜਮਕਾਲਾ ॥
पाप पुंन दुइ संगमे खुधिआ जमकाला ॥
Pāp punn ḏu▫e sangme kẖuḏẖi▫ā jamkālā.
The mortal abides in the society of both sins and virtues and so he is tormented by hunger and death's courier.

ਵਿਛੋੜਾ ਭਉ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਪੂਰਾ ਰਖਵਾਲਾ ॥੪॥
विछोड़ा भउ वीसरै पूरा रखवाला ॥४॥
vicẖẖoṛā bẖa▫o vīsrai pūrā rakẖvālā. ||4||
He, whom the Perfect Lord saves, forgets separation and fear.
|
ਜਿਨ ਕੀ ਲੇਖੈ ਪਤਿ ਪਵੈ ਸੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਭਾਈ ॥
जिन की लेखै पति पवै से पूरे भाई ॥
Jin kī lekẖai paṯ pavai se pūre bẖā▫ī.
They, whose honour is approved; They alone are; perfect, O my brother.

ਪੂਰੇ ਪੂਰੀ ਮਤਿ ਹੈ ਸਚੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
पूरे पूरी मति है सची वडिआई ॥
Pūre pūrī maṯ hai sacẖī vadi▫ā▫ī.
Perfect is the understanding of the Perfect Lord and true is his magnificence.
|
ਦੇਦੇ ਤੋਟਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਲੈ ਲੈ ਥਕਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੫॥
देदे तोटि न आवई लै लै थकि पाई ॥५॥
Ḏeḏe ṯot na āvī lai lai thak pā▫ī. ||5||
His gifts exhaust not, but the receiver grows weary of receiving them.
|
ਖਾਰ ਸਮੁਦ੍ਰੁ ਢੰਢੋਲੀਐ ਇਕੁ ਮਣੀਆ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
खार समुद्रु ढंढोलीऐ इकु मणीआ पावै ॥
Kẖār samuḏar dẖandẖolī▫ai ik maṇī▫ā pāvai.
Searching the saline sea, one comes upon a pearl.

ਦੁਇ ਦਿਨ ਚਾਰਿ ਸੁਹਾਵਣਾ ਮਾਟੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਖਾਵੈ ॥
दुइ दिन चारि सुहावणा माटी तिसु खावै ॥
Ḏu▫e ḏin cẖār suhāvaṇā mātī ṯis kẖāvai.
For some two or four days, it looks beauteous, but ultimately it is eaten up by the dust.
|
ਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਸਤਿ ਸੇਵੀਐ ਦੇ ਤੋਟਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥੬॥
गुरु सागरु सति सेवीऐ दे तोटि न आवै ॥६॥
Gur sāgar saṯ sevī▫ai ḏe ṯot na āvai. ||6||
If the mortal serves Guru, the ocean of truth, he obtains the inexhaustible treasure of gifts.
|
ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵਨਿ ਸੇ ਊਜਲੇ ਸਭ ਮੈਲੁ ਭਰੀਜੈ ॥
मेरे प्रभ भावनि से ऊजले सभ मैलु भरीजै ॥
Mere parabẖ bẖāvan se ūjle sabẖ mail bẖarījai.
They alone are pure, who are pleasing to my Lord. All others are smeared to my Lord. All other are smeared with filth.

ਮੈਲਾ ਊਜਲੁ ਤਾ ਥੀਐ ਪਾਰਸ ਸੰਗਿ ਭੀਜੈ ॥
मैला ऊजलु ता थीऐ पारस संगि भीजै ॥
Mailā ūjal ṯā thī▫ai pāras sang bẖījai.
When one meets with the Guru, the philosopher's stone, then alone the dirt is removed and one becomes immaculate.

ਵੰਨੀ ਸਾਚੇ ਲਾਲ ਕੀ ਕਿਨਿ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕੀਜੈ ॥੭॥
वंनी साचे लाल की किनि कीमति कीजै ॥७॥
vannī sācẖe lāl kī kin kīmaṯ kījai. ||7||
Who can appraise the worth of the colour of the True jewel of the Lord's Name.
|
ਭੇਖੀ ਹਾਥ ਨ ਲਭਈ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨਹੀ ਦਾਨੇ ॥
भेखी हाथ न लभई तीरथि नही दाने ॥
Bẖekẖī hāth na labẖ▫ī ṯirath nahī ḏāne.
The Lord is neither obtained by wearing religious garbs nor by giving alms at holies.
|
ਪੂਛਉ ਬੇਦ ਪੜੰਤਿਆ ਮੂਠੀ ਵਿਣੁ ਮਾਨੇ ॥
पूछउ बेद पड़ंतिआ मूठी विणु माने ॥
Pūcẖẖa▫o beḏ paṛanṯi▫ā mūṯẖī viṇ māne.
The world is cheated without accepting the Lord's Name. Go and inquire from the readers of the Vedas.

ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਸੋ ਕਰੇ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਗਿਆਨੇ ॥੮॥੬॥
नानक कीमति सो करे पूरा गुरु गिआने ॥८॥६॥
Nānak kīmaṯ so kare pūrā gur gi▫āne. ||8||6||
Nanak, he alone prizes the Name-jewel, who is blessed with the gnosis of the Perfect Guru.

ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਲਹਰਿ ਘਰੁ ਤਜਿ ਵਿਗੂਚੈ ਅਵਰਾ ਕੇ ਘਰ ਹੇਰੈ ॥
मनमुखु लहरि घरु तजि विगूचै अवरा के घर हेरै ॥
Manmukẖ lahar gẖar ṯaj vigūcẖai avrā ke gẖar herai.
Abandoning his home in excitement, an apostate is ruined by spying others homes.

ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਧਰਮੁ ਗਵਾਏ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਨ ਭੇਟੈ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਘੂਮਨ ਘੇਰੈ ॥
ग्रिह धरमु गवाए सतिगुरु न भेटै दुरमति घूमन घेरै ॥
Garih ḏẖaram gavā▫e saṯgur na bẖetai ḏurmaṯ gẖūman gẖerai.
He loses the status of the family man, meets not with the True Guru and is involved in the whirl-pool of evil understanding.

ਦਿਸੰਤਰੁ ਭਵੈ ਪਾਠ ਪੜਿ ਥਾਕਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਹੋਇ ਵਧੇਰੈ ॥
दिसंतरु भवै पाठ पड़ि थाका त्रिसना होइ वधेरै ॥
Disanṯar bẖavai pāṯẖ paṛ thākā ṯarisnā ho▫e vaḏẖerai.
By wandering in foreign lands and reading sacred scriptures, he grows weary and is craving for wealth increases.

ਕਾਚੀ ਪਿੰਡੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਚੀਨੈ ਉਦਰੁ ਭਰੈ ਜੈਸੇ ਢੋਰੈ ॥੧॥
काची पिंडी सबदु न चीनै उदरु भरै जैसे ढोरै ॥१॥
Kācẖī pindī sabaḏ na cẖīnai uḏar bẖarai jaise dẖorai. ||1||
He, of perishable body, contemplates not the Name and fills his belly like a beast.
|
ਬਾਬਾ ਐਸੀ ਰਵਤ ਰਵੈ ਸੰਨਿਆਸੀ ॥
बाबा ऐसी रवत रवै संनिआसी ॥
Bābā aisī ravaṯ ravai sani▫āsī.
O father, such a way of life, a renouncer should live.
|
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਏਕ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਸੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
गुर कै सबदि एक लिव लागी तेरै नामि रते त्रिपतासी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Gur kai sabaḏ ek liv lāgī ṯerai nām raṯe ṯaripṯāsī. ||1|| rahā▫o.
By Guru's instruction, he should enshrine love for Thee alone, O Lord and imbued with Thy Name remain satiated therewith. Pause.

ਘੋਲੀ ਗੇਰੂ ਰੰਗੁ ਚੜਾਇਆ ਵਸਤ੍ਰ ਭੇਖ ਭੇਖਾਰੀ ॥
घोली गेरू रंगु चड़ाइआ वसत्र भेख भेखारी ॥
Gẖolī gerū rang cẖaṛā▫i▫ā vasṯar bẖekẖ bẖekẖārī.
He dissolves ochre and dyes his dress with it, Wearing this garb, He becomes a beggar.

ਕਾਪੜ ਫਾਰਿ ਬਨਾਈ ਖਿੰਥਾ ਝੋਲੀ ਮਾਇਆਧਾਰੀ ॥
कापड़ फारि बनाई खिंथा झोली माइआधारी ॥
Kāpaṛ fār banā▫ī kẖinthā jẖolī mā▫i▫āḏẖārī.
Tearing off cloth, he makes a patched coat and puts money into his wallet.

ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਮਾਗੈ ਜਗੁ ਪਰਬੋਧੈ ਮਨਿ ਅੰਧੈ ਪਤਿ ਹਾਰੀ ॥
घरि घरि मागै जगु परबोधै मनि अंधै पति हारी ॥
Gẖar gẖar māgai jag parboḏẖai man anḏẖai paṯ hārī.
Blind of mind, he begs house to house and instructs the world; this way, he loses his honour this wise.

ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਣਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਚੀਨੈ ਜੂਐ ਬਾਜੀ ਹਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
भरमि भुलाणा सबदु न चीनै जूऐ बाजी हारी ॥२॥
Bẖaram bẖulāṇā sabaḏ na cẖīnai jū▫ai bājī hārī. ||2||
He strays in doubt and reflects not on the Name and this wise loses his life in the game of gamble.
