ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਸਾਬਾਸਿ ਹੈ ਕਾਟੈ ਮਨ ਪੀਰਾ ॥੨॥
गुर पूरे साबासि है काटै मन पीरा ॥२॥
Gur pūre sābās hai kātai man pīrā. ||2||
All honour is to the Perfect Guru, who has rid me of my mind's grief.
|
ਲਾਲਾ ਗੋਲਾ ਧਣੀ ਕੋ ਕਿਆ ਕਹਉ ਵਡਿਆਈਐ ॥
लाला गोला धणी को किआ कहउ वडिआईऐ ॥
Lālā golā ḏẖaṇī ko ki▫ā kaha▫o vadi▫ā▫ī▫ai.
I am a servant and serf of the Master. What praise of His can I tell?

ਭਾਣੈ ਬਖਸੇ ਪੂਰਾ ਧਣੀ ਸਚੁ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਈਐ ॥
भाणै बखसे पूरा धणी सचु कार कमाईऐ ॥
Bẖāṇai bakẖse pūrā ḏẖaṇī sacẖ kār kamā▫ī▫ai.
He, whom the Perfect Master, in His will, forgives, does the true deeds.

ਵਿਛੁੜਿਆ ਕਉ ਮੇਲਿ ਲਏ ਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈਐ ॥੩॥
विछुड़िआ कउ मेलि लए गुर कउ बलि जाईऐ ॥३॥
vicẖẖuṛi▫ā ka▫o mel la▫e gur ka▫o bal jā▫ī▫ai. ||3||
A sacrifice am I unto my Guru, who unites the separated ones with the Lord.

ਲਾਲੇ ਗੋਲੇ ਮਤਿ ਖਰੀ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਮਤਿ ਨੀਕੀ ॥
लाले गोले मति खरी गुर की मति नीकी ॥
Lāle gole maṯ kẖarī gur kī maṯ nīkī.
Sublime is the Guru's understanding of his obedient attendant, too, is rendered good.
|
ਸਾਚੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸੁਹਾਵਣੀ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮਤਿ ਫੀਕੀ ॥
साची सुरति सुहावणी मनमुख मति फीकी ॥
Sācẖī suraṯ suhāvaṇī manmukẖ maṯ fīkī.
Beauteous is the instruction of the true persons, and insipid the intellect of the egocentric.

ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਤੂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਚੁ ਧੀਰਕ ਧੁਰ ਕੀ ॥੪॥
मनु तनु तेरा तू प्रभू सचु धीरक धुर की ॥४॥
Man ṯan ṯerā ṯū parabẖū sacẖ ḏẖīrak ḏẖur kī. ||4||
My soul and body belong to Thee and thou are my Lord. Since the very beginning, truth is my only support.

ਸਾਚੈ ਬੈਸਣੁ ਉਠਣਾ ਸਚੁ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਭਾਖਿਆ ॥
साचै बैसणु उठणा सचु भोजनु भाखिआ ॥
Sācẖai baisaṇ uṯẖ▫ṇā sacẖ bẖojan bẖākẖi▫ā.
In truth I sit and stand and it is truth that I eat and utter.

ਚਿਤਿ ਸਚੈ ਵਿਤੋ ਸਚਾ ਸਾਚਾ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖਿਆ ॥
चिति सचै वितो सचा साचा रसु चाखिआ ॥
Cẖiṯ sacẖai viṯo sacẖā sācẖā ras cẖākẖi▫ā.
I enshrine truth in my mind, amass the wealth of truth and in-drink the Nectar of truth.

ਸਾਚੈ ਘਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਰਖੇ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨਿ ਸੁਭਾਖਿਆ ॥੫॥
साचै घरि साचै रखे गुर बचनि सुभाखिआ ॥५॥
Sācẖai gẖar sācẖai rakẖe gur bacẖan subẖākẖi▫ā. ||5||
I utter the sublime Gurbani and Thou, O True Lord, keep me in thine true mansion.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਕਉ ਆਲਸੁ ਘਣੋ ਫਾਥੇ ਓਜਾੜੀ ॥
मनमुख कउ आलसु घणो फाथे ओजाड़ी ॥
Manmukẖ ka▫o ālas gẖaṇo fāthe ojāṛī.
As apostate is lazy in contemplating the Lord's Name, he is therefore lost in wilderness.
|
ਫਾਥਾ ਚੁਗੈ ਨਿਤ ਚੋਗੜੀ ਲਗਿ ਬੰਧੁ ਵਿਗਾੜੀ ॥
फाथा चुगै नित चोगड़ी लगि बंधु विगाड़ी ॥
Fāthā cẖugai niṯ cẖogṛī lag banḏẖ vigāṛī.
Enticed by the bait of sins which he ever pecks at, he is ensnared and he spoils his relations with the Lord.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਹੋਇ ਸਾਚੇ ਨਿਜ ਤਾੜੀ ॥੬॥
गुर परसादी मुकतु होइ साचे निज ताड़ी ॥६॥
Gur parsādī mukaṯ ho▫e sācẖe nij ṯāṛī. ||6||
Being attuned to his True Lord, through the Guru's grace, he is emancipated.
|
ਅਨਹਤਿ ਲਾਲਾ ਬੇਧਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਹੇਤਿ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥
अनहति लाला बेधिआ प्रभ हेति पिआरी ॥
Anhaṯ lālā beḏẖi▫ā parabẖ heṯ pi▫ārī.
The Lord's slave incessantly remains pierced through with his Lord's love and affection.
|
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਾਚੇ ਜੀਉ ਜਲਿ ਬਲਉ ਝੂਠੇ ਵੇਕਾਰੀ ॥
बिनु साचे जीउ जलि बलउ झूठे वेकारी ॥
Bin sācẖe jī▫o jal bala▫o jẖūṯẖe vekārī.
Without the True Name, the soul of the false, sinful person is burnt to ashes.

ਬਾਦਿ ਕਾਰਾ ਸਭਿ ਛੋਡੀਆ ਸਾਚੀ ਤਰੁ ਤਾਰੀ ॥੭॥
बादि कारा सभि छोडीआ साची तरु तारी ॥७॥
Bāḏ kārā sabẖ cẖẖodī▫ā sācẖī ṯar ṯārī. ||7||
Abandoning all the evil deeds, the mortal crosses the stream, embarking on the boat of truth.
|
ਜਿਨੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਤਿਨਾ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਠਾਉ ॥
जिनी नामु विसारिआ तिना ठउर न ठाउ ॥
Jinī nām visāri▫ā ṯinā ṯẖa▫ur na ṯẖā▫o.
They who forget the Lord's Name, have no place and seat of rest.

ਲਾਲੈ ਲਾਲਚੁ ਤਿਆਗਿਆ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਉ ॥
लालै लालचु तिआगिआ पाइआ हरि नाउ ॥
Lālai lālacẖ ṯi▫āgi▫ā pā▫i▫ā har nā▫o.
Forsaking his avarice, the Lord's serf attains to the Lord's Name.

ਤੂ ਬਖਸਹਿ ਤਾ ਮੇਲਿ ਲੈਹਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਉ ॥੮॥੪॥
तू बखसहि ता मेलि लैहि नानक बलि जाउ ॥८॥४॥
Ŧū bakẖsahi ṯā mel laihi Nānak bal jā▫o. ||8||4||
If Thou forgive, then alone Thou unite the mortal with Thee, O Lord, Unto Thee, Nanak is a sacrifice.

ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥

Mārū mėhlā 1.
Maru 1st Guru.
|
ਲਾਲੈ ਗਾਰਬੁ ਛੋਡਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਈ ॥
लालै गारबु छोडिआ गुर कै भै सहजि सुभाई ॥
Lālai gārab cẖẖodi▫ā gur kai bẖai sahj subẖā▫ī.
In the Guru's fear, the God's slave easily sheds his self-conceit.
|
ਲਾਲੈ ਖਸਮੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਵਡੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
लालै खसमु पछाणिआ वडी वडिआई ॥
Lālai kẖasam pacẖẖāṇi▫ā vadī vadi▫ā▫ī.
Great is the greatness of the God's slave, who realises his Lord.
|
ਖਸਮਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥
खसमि मिलिऐ सुखु पाइआ कीमति कहणु न जाई ॥१॥
Kẖasam mili▫ai sukẖ pā▫i▫ā kīmaṯ kahaṇ na jā▫ī. ||1||
Meeting with his Lord, man obtains peace, whose worth can be evaluated not.
|
ਲਾਲਾ ਗੋਲਾ ਖਸਮ ਕਾ ਖਸਮੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
लाला गोला खसम का खसमै वडिआई ॥
Lālā golā kẖasam kā kẖasmai vadi▫ā▫ī.
I am a serf and servant of the Master and all glory vests in the Master.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਉਬਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
गुर परसादी उबरे हरि की सरणाई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Gur parsādī ubre har kī sarṇā▫ī. ||1|| rahā▫o.
I abide in the Lord's sanctuary and am emancipated by the Guru's grace. Pause.
|
ਲਾਲੇ ਨੋ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਾਰ ਹੈ ਧੁਰਿ ਖਸਮਿ ਫੁਰਮਾਈ ॥
लाले नो सिरि कार है धुरि खसमि फुरमाई ॥
Lāle no sir kār hai ḏẖur kẖasam furmā▫ī.
The performance of His most excellent service is the primal command, which the Lord has given to His slave.
|
ਲਾਲੈ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਸਦਾ ਰਹੈ ਰਜਾਈ ॥
लालै हुकमु पछाणिआ सदा रहै रजाई ॥
Lālai hukam pacẖẖāṇi▫ā saḏā rahai rajā▫ī.
The slave realises his Lord's command and ever submits to His will.
|
ਆਪੇ ਮੀਰਾ ਬਖਸਿ ਲਏ ਵਡੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੨॥
आपे मीरा बखसि लए वडी वडिआई ॥२॥
Āpe mīrā bakẖas la▫e vadī vadi▫ā▫ī. ||2||
He the Monarch, himself forgives and blesses with great honour.
|
ਆਪਿ ਸਚਾ ਸਭੁ ਸਚੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥
आपि सचा सभु सचु है गुर सबदि बुझाई ॥
Āp sacẖā sabẖ sacẖ hai gur sabaḏ bujẖā▫ī.
The Guru's word reveals that the Lord Himself is true and true are all His slaves.
|
ਤੇਰੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਸੋ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਲੈਹਿ ਤੂ ਲਾਈ ॥
तेरी सेवा सो करे जिस नो लैहि तू लाई ॥
Ŧerī sevā so kare jis no laihi ṯū lā▫ī.
He alone performs Thy service, O Lord, whom Thou direct this way.
|
ਬਿਨੁ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਰਮਿ ਖੁਆਈ ॥੩॥
बिनु सेवा किनै न पाइआ दूजै भरमि खुआई ॥३॥
Bin sevā kinai na pā▫i▫ā ḏūjai bẖaram kẖu▫ā▫ī. ||3||
Without the Lord's service, no one attains Him. In duality and doubt, men are ruined.
|
ਸੋ ਕਿਉ ਮਨਹੁ ਵਿਸਾਰੀਐ ਨਿਤ ਦੇਵੈ ਚੜੈ ਸਵਾਇਆ ॥
सो किउ मनहु विसारीऐ नित देवै चड़ै सवाइआ ॥
So ki▫o manhu visārī▫ai niṯ ḏevai cẖaṛai savā▫i▫ā.
Why should we forget Him from our minds, who blesses us with gifts which increase day by day.
|
ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਸਭੁ ਤਿਸ ਦਾ ਸਾਹੁ ਤਿਨੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
जीउ पिंडु सभु तिस दा साहु तिनै विचि पाइआ ॥
Jī▫o pind sabẖ ṯis ḏā sāhu ṯinai vicẖ pā▫i▫ā.
The soul and body, all belong to Him, It is He, who has infused breath in us.
|
ਜਾ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਤਾ ਸੇਵੀਐ ਸੇਵਿ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੪॥
जा क्रिपा करे ता सेवीऐ सेवि सचि समाइआ ॥४॥
Jā kirpā kare ṯā sevī▫ai sev sacẖ samā▫i▫ā. ||4||
If the Lord is merciful, then alone man serves Him and serving the True Lord, he merges in Him.
|
ਲਾਲਾ ਸੋ ਜੀਵਤੁ ਮਰੈ ਮਰਿ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥
लाला सो जीवतु मरै मरि विचहु आपु गवाए ॥
Lālā so jīvaṯ marai mar vicẖahu āp gavā▫e.
He alone is the servant, who remains dead in life and banishes from within him also the pride of so dying.
|
ਬੰਧਨ ਤੂਟਹਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥
बंधन तूटहि मुकति होइ त्रिसना अगनि बुझाए ॥
Banḏẖan ṯūtėh mukaṯ ho▫e ṯarisnā agan bujẖā▫e.
His bonds are broken, His fire of desire is quenched and he is emancipated.

ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕੋ ਪਾਏ ॥੫॥
सभ महि नामु निधानु है गुरमुखि को पाए ॥५॥
Sabẖ mėh nām niḏẖān hai gurmukẖ ko pā▫e. ||5||
Within all is the Name's treasure, but rare is the person, who obtains it by the Guru's grace.
|
ਲਾਲੇ ਵਿਚਿ ਗੁਣੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਹੀ ਲਾਲਾ ਅਵਗਣਿਆਰੁ ॥
लाले विचि गुणु किछु नही लाला अवगणिआरु ॥
Lāle vicẖ guṇ kicẖẖ nahī lālā avgaṇi▫ār.
In the servant there is no virtue. The servant is altogether virtueless.
|
ਤੁਧੁ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਕੋ ਨਹੀ ਤੂ ਬਖਸਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
तुधु जेवडु दाता को नही तू बखसणहारु ॥
Ŧuḏẖ jevad ḏāṯā ko nahī ṯū bakẖsaṇhār.
No one is as great a giver as Thou are, O Lord. Thou alone are the Pardoner.

ਤੇਰਾ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਲਾਲਾ ਮੰਨੇ ਏਹ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਾਰੁ ॥੬॥
तेरा हुकमु लाला मंने एह करणी सारु ॥६॥
Ŧerā hukam lālā manne eh karṇī sār. ||6||
This is the only sublime deed, that Thy salve obeys Thine command.
|
ਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸਰੁ ਜੋ ਇਛੇ ਸੋ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
गुरु सागरु अम्रित सरु जो इछे सो फलु पाए ॥
Gur sāgar amriṯ sar jo icẖẖe so fal pā▫e.
In the world-ocean, the Guru is the tank of Nectar. Whatsoever one desires, that fruit he obtains from him.

ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਅਮਰੁ ਹੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥
नामु पदारथु अमरु है हिरदै मंनि वसाए ॥
Nām paḏārath amar hai hirḏai man vasā▫e.
Immortalising is the wealth of the Lord's Name. The Guru enshrines it in the mind and heart.
