ਸਤੀ ਪਾਪੁ ਕਰਿ ਸਤੁ ਕਮਾਹਿ ॥ सती पापु करि सतु कमाहि ॥ Saṯī pāp kar saṯ kamāhi. Men of charity gather wealth by committing sins, and then give it away in donations to charity. ਗੁਰ ਦੀਖਿਆ ਘਰਿ ਦੇਵਣ ਜਾਹਿ ॥ गुर दीखिआ घरि देवण जाहि ॥ Gur ḏīkẖi▫ā gẖar ḏevaṇ jāhi. Their spiritual teachers go to their homes to instruct them. ਇਸਤਰੀ ਪੁਰਖੈ ਖਟਿਐ ਭਾਉ ॥ इसतरी पुरखै खटिऐ भाउ ॥ Isṯarī purkẖai kẖati▫ai bẖā▫o. The woman loves the man only for his wealth; ਸਲੋਕੁ ਮਃ ੧ ॥ सलोकु मः १ ॥ Salok mėhlā 1. Shalok, First Mehl: ਭਾਵੈ ਆਵਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਜਾਉ ॥ भावै आवउ भावै जाउ ॥ Bẖāvai āva▫o bẖāvai jā▫o. they come and go as they please. ਸਾਸਤੁ ਬੇਦੁ ਨ ਮਾਨੈ ਕੋਇ ॥ सासतु बेदु न मानै कोइ ॥ Sāsaṯ beḏ na mānai ko▫e. No one obeys the Shaastras or the Vedas. ਆਪੋ ਆਪੈ ਪੂਜਾ ਹੋਇ ॥ आपो आपै पूजा होइ ॥ Āpo āpai pūjā ho▫e. Everyone worships himself. ਕਾਜੀ ਹੋਇ ਕੈ ਬਹੈ ਨਿਆਇ ॥ काजी होइ कै बहै निआइ ॥ Kājī ho▫e kai bahai ni▫ā▫e. Becoming judges, they sit and administer justice. ਜੇ ਕੋ ਪੁਛੈ ਤਾ ਪੜਿ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥ जे को पुछै ता पड़ि सुणाए ॥ Je ko pucẖẖai ṯā paṛ suṇā▫e. If someone asks them, they read quotations from their books. ਤੁਰਕ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਕਨਿ ਰਿਦੈ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥ तुरक मंत्रु कनि रिदै समाहि ॥ Ŧurak manṯar kan riḏai samāhi. The Muslim scriptures are in their ears and in their hearts. ਵਢੀ ਲੈ ਕੈ ਹਕੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥ वढी लै कै हकु गवाए ॥ vadẖī lai kai hak gavā▫e. They accept bribes, and block justice. ਫੇਰੇ ਤਸਬੀ ਕਰੇ ਖੁਦਾਇ ॥ फेरे तसबी करे खुदाइ ॥ Fere ṯasbī kare kẖuḏā▫e. They chant on their malas, and call upon God. ਲੋਕ ਮੁਹਾਵਹਿ ਚਾੜੀ ਖਾਹਿ ॥ लोक मुहावहि चाड़ी खाहि ॥ Lok muhāvėh cẖāṛī kẖāhi. They plunder the people, and engage in gossip and flattery. ਚਉਕਾ ਦੇ ਕੈ ਸੁਚਾ ਹੋਇ ॥ चउका दे कै सुचा होइ ॥ Cẖa▫ukā ḏe kai sucẖā ho▫e. They anoint their kitchens to try to become pure. ਐਸਾ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਵੇਖਹੁ ਕੋਇ ॥ ऐसा हिंदू वेखहु कोइ ॥ Aisā hinḏū vekẖhu ko▫e. Behold, such is the Hindu. ਜੋਗੀ ਗਿਰਹੀ ਜਟਾ ਬਿਭੂਤ ॥ जोगी गिरही जटा बिभूत ॥ Jogī girhī jatā bibẖūṯ. The Yogi, with matted hair and ashes on his body, has become a householder. ਆਗੈ ਪਾਛੈ ਰੋਵਹਿ ਪੂਤ ॥ आगै पाछै रोवहि पूत ॥ Āgai pācẖẖai rovėh pūṯ. The children weep in front of him and behind him. ਜੋਗੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥ जोगु न पाइआ जुगति गवाई ॥ Jog na pā▫i▫ā jugaṯ gavā▫ī. He does not attain Yoga - he has lost his way. ਕਿਤੁ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਛਾਈ ਪਾਈ ॥ कितु कारणि सिरि छाई पाई ॥ Kiṯ kāraṇ sir cẖẖā▫ī pā▫ī. Why does he apply ashes to his forehead? |
