Raamkalee, First Mehl, Sidh Gosht ~ Conversations With The Siddhas:

ਤਿਸੁ ਆਗੈ ਰਹਰਾਸਿ ਹਮਾਰੀ ਸਾਚਾ ਅਪਰ ਅਪਾਰੋ
तिसु आगै रहरासि हमारी साचा अपर अपारो ॥
Ŧis āgai rahrās hamārī sācẖā apar apāro.
I offer my salutation to the One who is true, infinite and incomparably beautiful.

ਸਿਧ ਸਭਾ ਕਰਿ ਆਸਣਿ ਬੈਠੇ ਸੰਤ ਸਭਾ ਜੈਕਾਰੋ
सिध सभा करि आसणि बैठे संत सभा जैकारो ॥
Siḏẖ sabẖā kar āsaṇ baiṯẖe sanṯ sabẖā jaikāro.
The Siddhas formed an assembly; sitting in their Yogic postures, they shouted, "Salute this gathering of Saints".

ਨਾਨਕ ਸੰਤੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਹਜ ਭਾਇ ਜਸੁ ਲੇਉ ॥੧॥
नानक संतु मिलै सचु पाईऐ सहज भाइ जसु लेउ ॥१॥
Nānak sanṯ milai sacẖ pā▫ī▫ai sahj bẖā▫e jas le▫o. ||1||
O Nanak, meeting with the Saints, Truth is obtained, and one is spontaneously blessed with distinction. ||1||

ਮਸਤਕੁ ਕਾਟਿ ਧਰੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਆਗੈ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਆਗੈ ਦੇਉ
मसतकु काटि धरी तिसु आगै तनु मनु आगै देउ ॥
Masṯak kāt ḏẖarī ṯis āgai ṯan man āgai ḏe▫o.
I cut off my head, and offer it to Him; I dedicate my body and mind to Him".

ਕਿਆ ਭਵੀਐ ਸਚਿ ਸੂਚਾ ਹੋਇ
किआ भवीऐ सचि सूचा होइ ॥
Ki▫ā bẖavī▫ai sacẖ sūcẖā ho▫e.
What is the use of wandering around? Purity comes only through Truth.

ਸਾਚ ਸਬਦ ਬਿਨੁ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ
साच सबद बिनु मुकति न कोइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Sācẖ sabaḏ bin mukaṯ na ko▫e. ||1|| rahā▫o.
Without the True Word of the Shabad, no one finds liberation. ||1||Pause||

ਕਵਨ ਤੁਮੇ ਕਿਆ ਨਾਉ ਤੁਮਾਰਾ ਕਉਨੁ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਕਉਨੁ ਸੁਆਓ
कवन तुमे किआ नाउ तुमारा कउनु मारगु कउनु सुआओ ॥
Kavan ṯume ki▫ā nā▫o ṯumārā ka▫un mārag ka▫un su▫ā▫o.
Who are you? What is your name? What is your way? What is your goal?

ਸਾਚੁ ਕਹਉ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਹਮਾਰੀ ਹਉ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਓ
साचु कहउ अरदासि हमारी हउ संत जना बलि जाओ ॥
Sācẖ kaha▫o arḏās hamārī ha▫o sanṯ janā bal jā▫o.
We pray that you will answer us truthfully; we are a sacrifice to the humble Saints.

ਕਹ ਬੈਸਹੁ ਕਹ ਰਹੀਐ ਬਾਲੇ ਕਹ ਆਵਹੁ ਕਹ ਜਾਹੋ
कह बैसहु कह रहीऐ बाले कह आवहु कह जाहो ॥
Kah baishu kah rahī▫ai bāle kah āvhu kah jāho.
Where is your seat? Where do you live, boy? Where did you come from, and where are you going?

ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਬੈਸਿ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਰਹੀਐ ਚਾਲਹਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਏ
घटि घटि बैसि निरंतरि रहीऐ चालहि सतिगुर भाए ॥
Gẖat gẖat bais niranṯar rahī▫ai cẖālėh saṯgur bẖā▫e.
He dwells deep within the nucleus of each and every heart. This is my seat and my home. I walk in harmony with the Will of the True Guru.

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਬੋਲੈ ਸੁਣਿ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਕਿਆ ਤੁਮਾਰਾ ਰਾਹੋ ॥੨॥
नानकु बोलै सुणि बैरागी किआ तुमारा राहो ॥२॥
Nānak bolai suṇ bairāgī ki▫ā ṯumārā rāho. ||2||
Tell us, Nanak - the detached Siddhas wait to hear your reply. What is your path?" ||2||

ਸਹਜੇ ਆਏ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਸਿਧਾਏ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦਾ ਰਜਾਏ
सहजे आए हुकमि सिधाए नानक सदा रजाए ॥
Sėhje ā▫e hukam siḏẖā▫e Nānak saḏā rajā▫e.
I came from the Celestial Lord God; I go wherever He orders me to go. I am Nanak, forever under the Command of His Will.

ਆਸਣਿ ਬੈਸਣਿ ਥਿਰੁ ਨਾਰਾਇਣੁ ਐਸੀ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਪਾਏ
आसणि बैसणि थिरु नाराइणु ऐसी गुरमति पाए ॥
Āsaṇ baisaṇ thir nārā▫iṇ aisī gurmaṯ pā▫e.
I sit in the posture of the eternal, imperishable Lord. These are the Teachings I have received from the Guru.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਸਚੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥੩॥
गुरमुखि बूझै आपु पछाणै सचे सचि समाए ॥३॥
Gurmukẖ būjẖai āp pacẖẖāṇai sacẖe sacẖ samā▫e. ||3||
As Gurmukh, I have come to understand and realize myself; I merge in the Truest of the True". ||3||

ਦੁਨੀਆ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਦੁਤਰੁ ਕਹੀਐ ਕਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਪਾਰੋ
दुनीआ सागरु दुतरु कहीऐ किउ करि पाईऐ पारो ॥
Ḏunī▫ā sāgar ḏuṯar kahī▫ai ki▫o kar pā▫ī▫ai pāro.
The world-ocean is treacherous and impassable; how can one cross over?

ਚਰਪਟੁ ਬੋਲੈ ਅਉਧੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਹੁ ਸਚਾ ਬੀਚਾਰੋ
चरपटु बोलै अउधू नानक देहु सचा बीचारो ॥
Cẖarpat bolai a▫oḏẖū Nānak ḏeh sacẖā bīcẖāro.
O Nanak, think it over, and give us your true reply." Charpat the Yogi asks.

ਆਪੇ ਆਖੈ ਆਪੇ ਸਮਝੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਕਿਆ ਉਤਰੁ ਦੀਜੈ
आपे आखै आपे समझै तिसु किआ उतरु दीजै ॥
Āpe ākẖai āpe samjẖai ṯis ki▫ā uṯar ḏījai.
What answer can I give to someone, who claims to understand himself?

ਸਾਚੁ ਕਹਹੁ ਤੁਮ ਪਾਰਗਰਾਮੀ ਤੁਝੁ ਕਿਆ ਬੈਸਣੁ ਦੀਜੈ ॥੪॥
साचु कहहु तुम पारगरामी तुझु किआ बैसणु दीजै ॥४॥
Sācẖ kahhu ṯum pārgarāmī ṯujẖ ki▫ā baisaṇ ḏījai. ||4||
I speak the Truth; if you have already crossed over, how can I argue with you?" ||4||

ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਭਵ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਤਰੀਐ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੇ
सुरति सबदि भव सागरु तरीऐ नानक नामु वखाणे ॥
Suraṯ sabaḏ bẖav sāgar ṯarī▫ai Nānak nām vakẖāṇe.
with one's consciousness focused on the Word of the Shabad, one crosses over the terrifying world-ocean. O Nanak, chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਜੈਸੇ ਜਲ ਮਹਿ ਕਮਲੁ ਨਿਰਾਲਮੁ ਮੁਰਗਾਈ ਨੈ ਸਾਣੇ
जैसे जल महि कमलु निरालमु मुरगाई नै साणे ॥
Jaise jal mėh kamal nirālam murgā▫ī nai sāṇe.
The lotus flower floats untouched upon the surface of the water, and the duck swims through the stream;

ਰਹਹਿ ਇਕਾਂਤਿ ਏਕੋ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਆਸਾ ਮਾਹਿ ਨਿਰਾਸੋ
रहहि इकांति एको मनि वसिआ आसा माहि निरासो ॥
Rahėh ikāʼnṯ eko man vasi▫ā āsā māhi nirāso.
One who lives alone, as a hermit, enshrining the One Lord in his mind, remaining unaffected by hope in the midst of hope,

ਅਗਮੁ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਦਿਖਾਏ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਦਾਸੋ ॥੫॥
अगमु अगोचरु देखि दिखाए नानकु ता का दासो ॥५॥
Agam agocẖar ḏekẖ ḏikẖā▫e Nānak ṯā kā ḏāso. ||5||
sees and inspires others to see the inaccessible, unfathomable Lord. Nanak is his slave". ||5||

ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਹਮਾਰੀ ਪੂਛਉ ਸਾਚੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੋ
सुणि सुआमी अरदासि हमारी पूछउ साचु बीचारो ॥
Suṇ su▫āmī arḏās hamārī pūcẖẖa▫o sācẖ bīcẖāro.
Listen, Lord, to our prayer. We seek your true opinion.

ਰੋਸੁ ਕੀਜੈ ਉਤਰੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਕਿਉ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰ ਦੁਆਰੋ
रोसु न कीजै उतरु दीजै किउ पाईऐ गुर दुआरो ॥
Ros na kījai uṯar ḏījai ki▫o pā▫ī▫ai gur ḏu▫āro.
Don't be angry with us - please tell us: How can we find the Guru's Door?

ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਚਲਤਉ ਸਚ ਘਰਿ ਬੈਸੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੋ
इहु मनु चलतउ सच घरि बैसै नानक नामु अधारो ॥
Ih man cẖalṯa▫o sacẖ gẖar baisai Nānak nām aḏẖāro.
This fickle mind sits in its true home, O Nanak, through the Support of the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਕਰਤਾ ਲਾਗੈ ਸਾਚਿ ਪਿਆਰੋ ॥੬॥
आपे मेलि मिलाए करता लागै साचि पिआरो ॥६॥
Āpe mel milā▫e karṯā lāgai sācẖ pi▫āro. ||6||
The Creator Himself unites us in Union, and inspires us to love the Truth". ||6||

ਹਾਟੀ ਬਾਟੀ ਰਹਹਿ ਨਿਰਾਲੇ ਰੂਖਿ ਬਿਰਖਿ ਉਦਿਆਨੇ
हाटी बाटी रहहि निराले रूखि बिरखि उदिआने ॥
Hātī bātī rahėh nirāle rūkẖ birakẖ uḏi▫āne.
Away from stores and highways, we live in the woods, among plants and trees.

ਕੰਦ ਮੂਲੁ ਅਹਾਰੋ ਖਾਈਐ ਅਉਧੂ ਬੋਲੈ ਗਿਆਨੇ
कंद मूलु अहारो खाईऐ अउधू बोलै गिआने ॥
Kanḏ mūl ahāro kẖā▫ī▫ai a▫oḏẖū bolai gi▫āne.
For food, we take fruits and roots. This is the spiritual wisdom spoken by the renunciates.

ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨਾਈਐ ਸੁਖੁ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਮੈਲੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਕਾਈ
तीरथि नाईऐ सुखु फलु पाईऐ मैलु न लागै काई ॥
Ŧirath nā▫ī▫ai sukẖ fal pā▫ī▫ai mail na lāgai kā▫ī.
We bathe at sacred shrines of pilgrimage, and obtain the fruits of peace; not even an iota of filth sticks to us.

ਗੋਰਖ ਪੂਤੁ ਲੋਹਾਰੀਪਾ ਬੋਲੈ ਜੋਗ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਬਿਧਿ ਸਾਈ ॥੭॥
गोरख पूतु लोहारीपा बोलै जोग जुगति बिधि साई ॥७॥
Gorakẖ pūṯ lohārīpā bolai jog jugaṯ biḏẖ sā▫ī. ||7||
this is the Way of Yoga." Luhaareepaa, the disciple of Gorakh says. ||7||

ਹਾਟੀ ਬਾਟੀ ਨੀਦ ਆਵੈ ਪਰ ਘਰਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਡੋੁਲਾਈ
हाटी बाटी नीद न आवै पर घरि चितु न डोलाई ॥
Hātī bātī nīḏ na āvai par gẖar cẖiṯ na dolā▫ī.
In the stores and on the road, do not sleep; do not let your consciousness covet anyone else's home.

ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਮਨੁ ਟੇਕ ਟਿਕਈ ਨਾਨਕ ਭੂਖ ਜਾਈ
बिनु नावै मनु टेक न टिकई नानक भूख न जाई ॥
Bin nāvai man tek na tik▫ī Nānak bẖūkẖ na jā▫ī.
Without the Name, the mind has no firm support; O Nanak, this hunger never departs.

ਹਾਟੁ ਪਟਣੁ ਘਰੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਚੁ ਵਾਪਾਰੋ
हाटु पटणु घरु गुरू दिखाइआ सहजे सचु वापारो ॥
Hāt pataṇ gẖar gurū ḏikẖā▫i▫ā sėhje sacẖ vāpāro.
The Guru has revealed the stores and the city within the home of my own heart, where I intuitively carry on the true trade.

ਖੰਡਿਤ ਨਿਦ੍ਰਾ ਅਲਪ ਅਹਾਰੰ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੋ ॥੮॥
खंडित निद्रा अलप अहारं नानक ततु बीचारो ॥८॥
Kẖandiṯ niḏrā alap ahāraʼn Nānak ṯaṯ bīcẖāro. ||8||
Sleep little, and eat little; O Nanak, this is the essence of wisdom". ||8||

ਦਰਸਨੁ ਭੇਖ ਕਰਹੁ ਜੋਗਿੰਦ੍ਰਾ ਮੁੰਦ੍ਰਾ ਝੋਲੀ ਖਿੰਥਾ
दरसनु भेख करहु जोगिंद्रा मुंद्रा झोली खिंथा ॥
Ḏarsan bẖekẖ karahu joginḏarā munḏrā jẖolī kẖinthā.
Wear the robes of the sect of Yogis who follow Gorakh; put on the ear-rings, begging wallet and patched coat.

ਬਾਰਹ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਏਕੁ ਸਰੇਵਹੁ ਖਟੁ ਦਰਸਨ ਇਕ ਪੰਥਾ
बारह अंतरि एकु सरेवहु खटु दरसन इक पंथा ॥
Bārah anṯar ek sarevhu kẖat ḏarsan ik panthā.
Among the twelve schools of Yoga, ours is the highest; among the six schools of philosophy, ours is the best path.

ਇਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਮਨੁ ਸਮਝਾਈਐ ਪੁਰਖਾ ਬਾਹੁੜਿ ਚੋਟ ਖਾਈਐ
इन बिधि मनु समझाईऐ पुरखा बाहुड़ि चोट न खाईऐ ॥
In biḏẖ man samjā▫ī▫ai purkẖā bāhuṛ cẖot na kẖā▫ī▫ai.
This is the way to instruct the mind, so you will never suffer beatings again.

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਬੋਲੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਜੋਗ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਇਵ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੯॥
नानकु बोलै गुरमुखि बूझै जोग जुगति इव पाईऐ ॥९॥
Nānak bolai gurmukẖ būjẖai jog jugaṯ iv pā▫ī▫ai. ||9||
Nanak speaks: the Gurmukh understands; this is the way that Yoga is attained. ||9||

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਮੁਦ੍ਰਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਮਤਾ ਦੂਰਿ ਕਰੀ
अंतरि सबदु निरंतरि मुद्रा हउमै ममता दूरि करी ॥
Anṯar sabaḏ niranṯar muḏrā ha▫umai mamṯā ḏūr karī.
Let constant absorption in the Word of the Shabad deep within be your ear-rings; eradicate egotism and attachment.

ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ਨਿਵਾਰੈ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁ ਸਮਝ ਪਰੀ
कामु क्रोधु अहंकारु निवारै गुर कै सबदि सु समझ परी ॥
Kām kroḏẖ ahaʼnkār nivārai gur kai sabaḏ so samajẖ parī.
Discard sexual desire, anger and egotism, and through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, attain true understanding.

ਖਿੰਥਾ ਝੋਲੀ ਭਰਿਪੁਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾਰੈ ਏਕੁ ਹਰੀ
खिंथा झोली भरिपुरि रहिआ नानक तारै एकु हरी ॥
Kẖinthā jẖolī bẖaripur rahi▫ā Nānak ṯārai ek harī.
For your patched coat and begging bowl, see the Lord God pervading and permeating everywhere; O Nanak, the One Lord will carry you across.

ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਾਚੀ ਨਾਈ ਪਰਖੈ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਬਾਤ ਖਰੀ ॥੧੦॥
साचा साहिबु साची नाई परखै गुर की बात खरी ॥१०॥
Sācẖā sāhib sācẖī nā▫ī parkẖai gur kī bāṯ kẖarī. ||10||
True is our Lord and Master, and True is His Name. Analyze it, and you shall find the Word of the Guru to be True. ||10||

ਊਂਧਉ ਖਪਰੁ ਪੰਚ ਭੂ ਟੋਪੀ
ऊंधउ खपरु पंच भू टोपी ॥
Ūʼnḏẖa▫o kẖapar pancẖ bẖū topī.
Let your mind turn away in detachment from the world, and let this be your begging bowl. Let the lessons of the five elements be your cap.

ਕਾਂਇਆ ਕੜਾਸਣੁ ਮਨੁ ਜਾਗੋਟੀ
कांइआ कड़ासणु मनु जागोटी ॥
Kāʼn▫i▫ā kaṛāsaṇ man jāgotī.
Let the body be your meditation mat, and the mind your loin cloth.

ਸਤੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਹੈ ਨਾਲਿ
सतु संतोखु संजमु है नालि ॥
Saṯ sanṯokẖ sanjam hai nāl.
Let truth, contentment and self-discipline be your companions.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥੧੧॥
नानक गुरमुखि नामु समालि ॥११॥
Nānak gurmukẖ nām samāl. ||11||
O Nanak, the Gurmukh dwells on the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||11||

ਕਵਨੁ ਸੁ ਗੁਪਤਾ ਕਵਨੁ ਸੁ ਮੁਕਤਾ
कवनु सु गुपता कवनु सु मुकता ॥
Kavan so gupṯā kavan so mukṯā.
Who is hidden? Who is liberated?

ਕਵਨੁ ਸੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਜੁਗਤਾ
कवनु सु अंतरि बाहरि जुगता ॥
Kavan so anṯar bāhar jugṯā.
Who is united, inwardly and outwardly?

ਕਵਨੁ ਸੁ ਆਵੈ ਕਵਨੁ ਸੁ ਜਾਇ
कवनु सु आवै कवनु सु जाइ ॥
Kavan so āvai kavan so jā▫e.
Who comes, and who goes?

ਕਵਨੁ ਸੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧੨॥
कवनु सु त्रिभवणि रहिआ समाइ ॥१२॥
Kavan so ṯaribẖavaṇ rahi▫ā samā▫e. ||12||
Who is permeating and pervading the three worlds?" ||12||

ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਗੁਪਤਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮੁਕਤਾ
घटि घटि गुपता गुरमुखि मुकता ॥
Gẖat gẖat gupṯā gurmukẖ mukṯā.
He is hidden within each and every heart. The Gurmukh is liberated.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁ ਜੁਗਤਾ
अंतरि बाहरि सबदि सु जुगता ॥
Anṯar bāhar sabaḏ so jugṯā.
Through the Word of the Shabad, one is united, inwardly and outwardly.

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ
मनमुखि बिनसै आवै जाइ ॥
Manmukẖ binsai āvai jā▫e.
The self-willed manmukh perishes, and comes and goes.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧੩॥
नानक गुरमुखि साचि समाइ ॥१३॥
Nānak gurmukẖ sācẖ samā▫e. ||13||
O Nanak, the Gurmukh merges in Truth". ||13||

ਕਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਬਾਧਾ ਸਰਪਨਿ ਖਾਧਾ
किउ करि बाधा सरपनि खाधा ॥
Ki▫o kar bāḏẖā sarpan kẖāḏẖā.
How is one placed in bondage, and consumed by the serpent of Maya?

ਇਹੁ ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੈ ਸੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥੧੪॥
इहु ततु बीचारै सु गुरू हमारा ॥१४॥
Ih ṯaṯ bīcẖārai so gurū hamārā. ||14||
One who understands this essence of reality is our Guru." ||14||

ਕਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਖੋਇਆ ਕਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਲਾਧਾ
किउ करि खोइआ किउ करि लाधा ॥
Ki▫o kar kẖo▫i▫ā ki▫o kar lāḏẖā.
How does one lose, and how does one gain?

ਕਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਕਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਅੰਧਿਆਰਾ
किउ करि निरमलु किउ करि अंधिआरा ॥
Ki▫o kar nirmal ki▫o kar anḏẖi▫ārā.
How does one become immaculate and pure? How is the darkness of ignorance removed?

ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਬਾਧਾ ਸਰਪਨਿ ਖਾਧਾ
दुरमति बाधा सरपनि खाधा ॥
Ḏurmaṯ bāḏẖā sarpan kẖāḏẖā.
Man is bound by evil-mindedness, and consumed by Maya, the serpent.

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਖੋਇਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਲਾਧਾ
मनमुखि खोइआ गुरमुखि लाधा ॥
Manmukẖ kẖo▫i▫ā gurmukẖ lāḏẖā.
The self-willed manmukh loses, and the Gurmukh gains.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਅੰਧੇਰਾ ਜਾਇ
सतिगुरु मिलै अंधेरा जाइ ॥
Saṯgur milai anḏẖerā jā▫e.
Meeting the True Guru, darkness is dispelled.

ਨਾਨਕ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਟਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧੫॥
नानक हउमै मेटि समाइ ॥१५॥
Nānak ha▫umai met samā▫e. ||15||
O Nanak, eradicating egotism, one merges in the Lord. ||15||

ਸੁੰਨ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਦੀਜੈ ਬੰਧੁ
सुंन निरंतरि दीजै बंधु ॥
Sunn niranṯar ḏījai banḏẖ.
Focused deep within, in perfect absorption,

ਉਡੈ ਹੰਸਾ ਪੜੈ ਕੰਧੁ
उडै न हंसा पड़ै न कंधु ॥
Udai na hansā paṛai na kanḏẖ.
the soul-swan does not fly away, and the body-wall does not collapse.

ਕਿਸੁ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਗ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਤਜਿਓ ਉਦਾਸੀ
किसु कारणि ग्रिहु तजिओ उदासी ॥
Kis kāraṇ garihu ṯaji▫o uḏāsī.
Why have you left your house and become a wandering Udaasee?

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚੇ ਭਾਵੈ ਸਾਚਾ ॥੧੬॥
नानक साचे भावै साचा ॥१६॥
Nānak sācẖe bẖāvai sācẖā. ||16||
O Nanak, the True Lord loves those who are truthful. ||16||

ਸਹਜ ਗੁਫਾ ਘਰੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਸਾਚਾ
सहज गुफा घरु जाणै साचा ॥
Sahj gufā gẖar jāṇai sācẖā.
Then, one knows that his true home is in the cave of intuitive poise.

ਕਿਸੁ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਇਹੁ ਭੇਖੁ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ
किसु कारणि इहु भेखु निवासी ॥
Kis kāraṇ ih bẖekẖ nivāsī.
Why have you adopted these religious robes?

ਕਿਸੁ ਵਖਰ ਕੇ ਤੁਮ ਵਣਜਾਰੇ
किसु वखर के तुम वणजारे ॥
Kis vakẖar ke ṯum vaṇjāre.
What merchandise do you trade?

ਕਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਸਾਥੁ ਲੰਘਾਵਹੁ ਪਾਰੇ ॥੧੭॥
किउ करि साथु लंघावहु पारे ॥१७॥
Ki▫o kar sāth langẖāvahu pāre. ||17||
How will you carry others across with you?" ||17||

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਖੋਜਤ ਭਏ ਉਦਾਸੀ
गुरमुखि खोजत भए उदासी ॥
Gurmukẖ kẖojaṯ bẖa▫e uḏāsī.
I became a wandering Udaasee, searching for the Gurmukhs.

ਦਰਸਨ ਕੈ ਤਾਈ ਭੇਖ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ
दरसन कै ताई भेख निवासी ॥
Ḏarsan kai ṯā▫ī bẖekẖ nivāsī.
I have adopted these robes seeking the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan.

ਸਾਚ ਵਖਰ ਕੇ ਹਮ ਵਣਜਾਰੇ
साच वखर के हम वणजारे ॥
Sācẖ vakẖar ke ham vaṇjāre.
I trade in the merchandise of Truth.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਉਤਰਸਿ ਪਾਰੇ ॥੧੮॥
नानक गुरमुखि उतरसि पारे ॥१८॥
Nānak gurmukẖ uṯras pāre. ||18||
O Nanak, as Gurmukh, I carry others across. ||18||

ਕਿਤੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਪੁਰਖਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਵਟਾਇਆ
कितु बिधि पुरखा जनमु वटाइआ ॥
Kiṯ biḏẖ purkẖā janam vatā▫i▫ā.
How have you changed the course of your life?

ਕਾਹੇ ਕਉ ਤੁਝੁ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਇਆ
काहे कउ तुझु इहु मनु लाइआ ॥
Kāhe ka▫o ṯujẖ ih man lā▫i▫ā.
With what have you linked your mind?
