ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਬਿਦਿਆ ਬਿਕ੍ਰਦਾ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਟੇ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਇ ॥ मनमुखु बिदिआ बिक्रदा बिखु खटे बिखु खाइ ॥ Manmukẖ biḏi▫ā bikarḏā bikẖ kẖate bikẖ kẖā▫e. The self-willed manmukh sells his knowledge; he earns poison, and eats poison. ਬਿਦਿਆ ਸੋਧੈ ਤਤੁ ਲਹੈ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥ बिदिआ सोधै ततु लहै राम नाम लिव लाइ ॥ Biḏi▫ā soḏẖai ṯaṯ lahai rām nām liv lā▫e. Considering his knowledge, he finds the essence of reality, and lovingly focuses his attention on the Name of the Lord. ਪਾਧਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਖੀਐ ਚਾਟੜਿਆ ਮਤਿ ਦੇਇ ॥ पाधा गुरमुखि आखीऐ चाटड़िआ मति देइ ॥ Pāḏẖā gurmukẖ ākẖī▫ai cẖātṛi▫ā maṯ ḏe▫e. That Pandit is called Gurmukh, who imparts understanding to his students. ਮੂਰਖੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਚੀਨਈ ਸੂਝ ਬੂਝ ਨਹ ਕਾਇ ॥੫੩॥ मूरखु सबदु न चीनई सूझ बूझ नह काइ ॥५३॥ Mūrakẖ sabaḏ na cẖīn▫ī sūjẖ būjẖ nah kā▫e. ||53|| The fool does not think of the Word of the Shabad. He has no understanding, no comprehension. ||53|| ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਹੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੰਗਰਹੁ ਲਾਹਾ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਲੇਇ ॥ नामु समालहु नामु संगरहु लाहा जग महि लेइ ॥ Nām samālahu nām sangrahu lāhā jag mėh le▫e. Contemplate the Naam, the Name of the Lord; gather in the Naam, and earn the true profit in this world. ਸਚੀ ਪਟੀ ਸਚੁ ਮਨਿ ਪੜੀਐ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁ ਸਾਰੁ ॥ सची पटी सचु मनि पड़ीऐ सबदु सु सारु ॥ Sacẖī patī sacẖ man paṛī▫ai sabaḏ so sār. With the true notebook of the true mind, study the most sublime Word of the Shabad. ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਪੜਿਆ ਸੋ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਬੀਨਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਗਲਿ ਹਾਰੁ ॥੫੪॥੧॥ नानक सो पड़िआ सो पंडितु बीना जिसु राम नामु गलि हारु ॥५४॥१॥ Nānak so paṛi▫ā so pandiṯ bīnā jis rām nām gal hār. ||54||1|| O Nanak, he alone is learned, and he alone is a wise Pandit, who wears the necklace of the Lord's Name. ||54||1||
