ਜੋ ਉਸਾਰੇ ਸੋ ਢਾਹਸੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥ जो उसारे सो ढाहसी तिसु बिनु अवरु न कोइ ॥ Jo usāre so dẖāhsī ṯis bin avar na ko▫e. He who builds, also demolishes; there is no other than Him. ਜਿਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੀਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਸੇਵਸਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ॥ जिनि नामु दीआ तिसु सेवसा तिसु बलिहारै जाउ ॥ Jin nām ḏī▫ā ṯis sevsā ṯis balihārai jā▫o. I serve the One who gave me the Naam; I am a sacrifice to Him. ਣਾ ਕੋ ਮੇਰਾ ਕਿਸੁ ਗਹੀ ਣਾ ਕੋ ਹੋਆ ਨ ਹੋਗੁ ॥ णा को मेरा किसु गही णा को होआ न होगु ॥ Ņā ko merā kis gahī ṇā ko ho▫ā na hog. No one is mine - whose gown should I grasp and hold? No one ever was, and no one shall ever be mine. ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਸੰਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਲਾ ਤਾ ਤਨਿ ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥੩੧॥ गुर परसादी तिसु सम्हला ता तनि दूखु न होइ ॥३१॥ Gur parsādī ṯis sammĥlā ṯā ṯan ḏūkẖ na ho▫e. ||31|| By Guru's Grace, I contemplate Him, and then my body does not suffer in pain. ||31|| ਆਵਣਿ ਜਾਣਿ ਵਿਗੁਚੀਐ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਵਿਆਪੈ ਰੋਗੁ ॥ आवणि जाणि विगुचीऐ दुबिधा विआपै रोगु ॥ Āvaṇ jāṇ vigucẖī▫ai ḏubiḏẖā vi▫āpai rog. Coming and going, one is ruined, afflicted with the disease of dual-mindedness. ਣਾਮ ਵਿਹੂਣੇ ਆਦਮੀ ਕਲਰ ਕੰਧ ਗਿਰੰਤਿ ॥ णाम विहूणे आदमी कलर कंध गिरंति ॥ Ņām vihūṇe āḏmī kalar kanḏẖ giranṯ. Those beings who lack the Naam, the Name of the Lord, collapse like pillars of salt. ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕਿਉ ਛੂਟੀਐ ਜਾਇ ਰਸਾਤਲਿ ਅੰਤਿ ॥ विणु नावै किउ छूटीऐ जाइ रसातलि अंति ॥ viṇ nāvai ki▫o cẖẖūtī▫ai jā▫e rasāṯal anṯ. Without the Name, how can they find release? They fall into hell in the end. ਗਣਤ ਗਣਾਵੈ ਅਖਰੀ ਅਗਣਤੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਸੋਇ ॥ गणत गणावै अखरी अगणतु साचा सोइ ॥ Gaṇaṯ gaṇāvai akẖrī agṇaṯ sācẖā so▫e. Using a limited number of words, we describe the unlimited True Lord. ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਮਤਿਹੀਣੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥ अगिआनी मतिहीणु है गुर बिनु गिआनु न होइ ॥ Agi▫ānī maṯihīṇ hai gur bin gi▫ān na ho▫e. The ignorant lack understanding. Without the Guru, there is no spiritual wisdom. ਤੂਟੀ ਤੰਤੁ ਰਬਾਬ ਕੀ ਵਾਜੈ ਨਹੀ ਵਿਜੋਗਿ ॥ तूटी तंतु रबाब की वाजै नही विजोगि ॥ Ŧūtī ṯanṯ rabāb kī vājai nahī vijog. The separated soul is like the broken string of a guitar, which does not vibrate its sound. ਵਿਛੁੜਿਆ ਮੇਲੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰਿ ਸੰਜੋਗ ॥੩੨॥ विछुड़िआ मेलै प्रभू नानक करि संजोग ॥३२॥ vicẖẖuṛi▫ā melai parabẖū Nānak kar sanjog. ||32|| God unites the separated souls with Himself, awakening their destiny. ||32|| ਤਰਵਰੁ ਕਾਇਆ ਪੰਖਿ ਮਨੁ ਤਰਵਰਿ ਪੰਖੀ ਪੰਚ ॥ तरवरु काइआ पंखि मनु तरवरि पंखी पंच ॥ Ŧarvar kā▫i▫ā pankẖ man ṯarvar pankẖī pancẖ. The body is the tree, and the mind is the bird; the birds in the tree are the five senses. ਤਤੁ ਚੁਗਹਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਏਕਸੇ ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਫਾਸ ਨ ਰੰਚ ॥ ततु चुगहि मिलि एकसे तिन कउ फास न रंच ॥ Ŧaṯ cẖugėh mil ekse ṯin ka▫o fās na rancẖ. They peck at the essence of reality, and merge with the One Lord. They are never trapped at all. ਉਡਹਿ ਤ ਬੇਗੁਲ ਬੇਗੁਲੇ ਤਾਕਹਿ ਚੋਗ ਘਣੀ ॥ उडहि त बेगुल बेगुले ताकहि चोग घणी ॥ Uḏėh ṯa begul begule ṯakėh cẖog gẖaṇī. But the others fly away in a hurry, when they see the food. ਪੰਖ ਤੁਟੇ ਫਾਹੀ ਪੜੀ ਅਵਗੁਣਿ ਭੀੜ ਬਣੀ ॥ पंख तुटे फाही पड़ी अवगुणि भीड़ बणी ॥ Pankẖ ṯute fāhī paṛī avguṇ bẖīṛ baṇī. Their feathers are clipped, and they are caught in the noose; through their mistakes, they are caught in disaster. ਬਿਨੁ ਸਾਚੇ ਕਿਉ ਛੂਟੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਕਰਮਿ ਮਣੀ ॥ बिनु साचे किउ छूटीऐ हरि गुण करमि मणी ॥ Bin sācẖe ki▫o cẖẖūtī▫ai har guṇ karam maṇī. Without the True Lord, how can anyone find release? The jewel of the Lord's Glorious Praises comes by the karma of good actions. ਆਪਿ ਛਡਾਏ ਛੂਟੀਐ ਵਡਾ ਆਪਿ ਧਣੀ ॥ आपि छडाए छूटीऐ वडा आपि धणी ॥ Āp cẖẖadā▫e cẖẖūtī▫ai vadā āp ḏẖaṇī. When He Himself releases them, only then are they released. He Himself is the Great Master. ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਛੂਟੀਐ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥ गुर परसादी छूटीऐ किरपा आपि करेइ ॥ Gur parsādī cẖẖūtī▫ai kirpā āp kare▫i. By Guru's Grace, they are released, when He Himself grants His Grace. ਅਪਣੈ ਹਾਥਿ ਵਡਾਈਆ ਜੈ ਭਾਵੈ ਤੈ ਦੇਇ ॥੩੩॥ अपणै हाथि वडाईआ जै भावै तै देइ ॥३३॥ Apṇai hāth vadā▫ī▫ā jai bẖāvai ṯai ḏe▫e. ||33|| Glorious greatness rests in His Hands. He blesses those with whom He is pleased. ||33|| ਥਰ ਥਰ ਕੰਪੈ ਜੀਅੜਾ ਥਾਨ ਵਿਹੂਣਾ ਹੋਇ ॥ थर थर क्मपै जीअड़ा थान विहूणा होइ ॥ Thar thar kampai jī▫aṛā thān vihūṇā ho▫e. The soul trembles and shakes, when it loses its mooring and support. ਥਾਨਿ ਮਾਨਿ ਸਚੁ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਕਾਜੁ ਨ ਫੀਟੈ ਕੋਇ ॥ थानि मानि सचु एकु है काजु न फीटै कोइ ॥ Thān mān sacẖ ek hai kāj na fītai ko▫e. Only the support of the True Lord brings honor and glory. Through it, one's works are never in vain. ਥਿਰੁ ਨਾਰਾਇਣੁ ਥਿਰੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਥਿਰੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥ थिरु नाराइणु थिरु गुरू थिरु साचा बीचारु ॥ Thir nārā▫iṇ thir gurū thir sācẖā bīcẖār. The Lord is eternal and forever stable; the Guru is stable, and contemplation upon the True Lord is stable. ਸੁਰਿ ਨਰ ਨਾਥਹ ਨਾਥੁ ਤੂ ਨਿਧਾਰਾ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥ सुरि नर नाथह नाथु तू निधारा आधारु ॥ Sur nar nāthah nāth ṯū niḏẖārā āḏẖār. O Lord and Master of angels, men and Yogic masters, You are the support of the unsupported. ਸਰਬੇ ਥਾਨ ਥਨੰਤਰੀ ਤੂ ਦਾਤਾ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ॥ सरबे थान थनंतरी तू दाता दातारु ॥ Sarbe thān thananṯarī ṯū ḏāṯā ḏāṯār. In all places and interspaces, You are the Giver, the Great Giver. ਜਹ ਦੇਖਾ ਤਹ ਏਕੁ ਤੂ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰੁ ॥ जह देखा तह एकु तू अंतु न पारावारु ॥ Jah ḏekẖā ṯah ek ṯū anṯ na pārāvār. Wherever I look, there I see You, Lord; You have no end or limitation. ਥਾਨ ਥਨੰਤਰਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥ थान थनंतरि रवि रहिआ गुर सबदी वीचारि ॥ Thān thananṯar rav rahi▫ā gur sabḏī vīcẖār. You are pervading and permeating the places and interspaces; reflecting upon the Word of the Guru's Shabad, You are found. ਅਣਮੰਗਿਆ ਦਾਨੁ ਦੇਵਸੀ ਵਡਾ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥੩੪॥ अणमंगिआ दानु देवसी वडा अगम अपारु ॥३४॥ Aṇmangi▫ā ḏān ḏevsī vadā agam apār. ||34|| You give gifts even when they are not asked for; You are great, inaccessible and infinite. ||34|| ਦਇਆ ਦਾਨੁ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਤੂ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖਣਹਾਰੁ ॥ दइआ दानु दइआलु तू करि करि देखणहारु ॥ Ḏa▫i▫ā ḏān ḏa▫i▫āl ṯū kar kar ḏekẖaṇhār. O Merciful Lord, You are the embodiment of mercy; creating the Creation, You behold it. ਦਇਆ ਕਰਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੇਲਿ ਲੈਹਿ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਢਾਹਿ ਉਸਾਰਿ ॥ दइआ करहि प्रभ मेलि लैहि खिन महि ढाहि उसारि ॥ Ḏa▫i▫ā karahi parabẖ mel laihi kẖin mėh dẖāhi usār. Please shower Your Mercy upon me, O God, and unite me with Yourself. In an instant, You destroy and rebuild. ਦਾਨਾ ਤੂ ਬੀਨਾ ਤੁਹੀ ਦਾਨਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਰਿ ਦਾਨੁ ॥ दाना तू बीना तुही दाना कै सिरि दानु ॥ Ḏānā ṯū bīnā ṯuhī ḏānā kai sir ḏān. You are all-wise and all-seeing; You are the Greatest Giver of all givers. ਦਾਲਦ ਭੰਜਨ ਦੁਖ ਦਲਣ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥੩੫॥ दालद भंजन दुख दलण गुरमुखि गिआनु धिआनु ॥३५॥ Ḏālaḏ bẖanjan ḏukẖ ḏalaṇ gurmukẖ gi▫ān ḏẖi▫ān. ||35|| He is the Eradicator of poverty, and the Destroyer of pain; the Gurmukh realizes spiritual wisdom and meditation. ||35|| ਧਨਿ ਗਇਐ ਬਹਿ ਝੂਰੀਐ ਧਨ ਮਹਿ ਚੀਤੁ ਗਵਾਰ ॥ धनि गइऐ बहि झूरीऐ धन महि चीतु गवार ॥ Ḏẖan ga▫i▫ai bahi jẖūrī▫ai ḏẖan mėh cẖīṯ gavār. Losing his wealth, he cries out in anguish; the fool's consciousness is engrossed in wealth. ਧਨੁ ਵਿਰਲੀ ਸਚੁ ਸੰਚਿਆ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥ धनु विरली सचु संचिआ निरमलु नामु पिआरि ॥ Ḏẖan virlī sacẖ sancẖi▫ā nirmal nām pi▫ār. How rare are those who gather the wealth of Truth, and love the Immaculate Naam, the Name of the Lord. ਧਨੁ ਗਇਆ ਤਾ ਜਾਣ ਦੇਹਿ ਜੇ ਰਾਚਹਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਏਕ ॥ धनु गइआ ता जाण देहि जे राचहि रंगि एक ॥ Ḏẖan ga▫i▫ā ṯā jāṇ ḏėh je rācẖėh rang ek. If by losing your wealth, you may become absorbed in the Love of the One Lord, then just let it go. ਮਨੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਸਿਰੁ ਸਉਪੀਐ ਭੀ ਕਰਤੇ ਕੀ ਟੇਕ ॥ मनु दीजै सिरु सउपीऐ भी करते की टेक ॥ Man ḏījai sir sa▫upī▫ai bẖī karṯe kī tek. Dedicate your mind, and surrender your head; seek only the Support of the Creator Lord. ਧੰਧਾ ਧਾਵਤ ਰਹਿ ਗਏ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਨੰਦੁ ॥ धंधा धावत रहि गए मन महि सबदु अनंदु ॥ Ḏẖanḏẖā ḏẖāvaṯ rėh ga▫e man mėh sabaḏ anand. Worldly affairs and wanderings cease, when the mind is filled with the bliss of the Shabad. ਦੁਰਜਨ ਤੇ ਸਾਜਨ ਭਏ ਭੇਟੇ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ॥ दुरजन ते साजन भए भेटे गुर गोविंद ॥ Ḏurjan ṯe sājan bẖa▫e bẖete gur govinḏ. Even one's enemies become friends, meeting with the Guru, the Lord of the Universe. ਬਨੁ ਬਨੁ ਫਿਰਤੀ ਢੂਢਤੀ ਬਸਤੁ ਰਹੀ ਘਰਿ ਬਾਰਿ ॥ बनु बनु फिरती ढूढती बसतु रही घरि बारि ॥ Ban ban firṯī dẖūdẖ▫ṯī basaṯ rahī gẖar bār. Wandering from forest to forest searching, you will find that those things are within the home of your own heart. ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮੇਲੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੀ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦੁਖੁ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ॥੩੬॥ सतिगुरि मेली मिलि रही जनम मरण दुखु निवारि ॥३६॥ Saṯgur melī mil rahī janam maraṇ ḏukẖ nivār. ||36|| United by the True Guru, you shall remain united, and the pains of birth and death will be ended. ||36|| ਨਾਨਾ ਕਰਤ ਨ ਛੂਟੀਐ ਵਿਣੁ ਗੁਣ ਜਮ ਪੁਰਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥ नाना करत न छूटीऐ विणु गुण जम पुरि जाहि ॥ Nānā karaṯ na cẖẖūtī▫ai viṇ guṇ jam pur jāhi. Through various rituals, one does not find release. Without virtue, one is sent to the City of Death. ਨਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਏਹੁ ਨ ਓਹੁ ਹੈ ਅਵਗੁਣਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਪਛੁਤਾਹਿ ॥ ना तिसु एहु न ओहु है अवगुणि फिरि पछुताहि ॥ Nā ṯis ehu na oh hai avguṇ fir pacẖẖuṯāhi. One will not have this world or the next; committing sinful mistakes, one comes to regret and repent in the end.
