ਅੰਤਰਿ ਉਤਭੁਜੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥ अंतरि उतभुजु अवरु न कोई ॥ Anṫar uṫ▫bʰuj avar na ko▫ee. The created Universe emanated from within You; there is no other at all. ਰਾਮਕਲੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥ रामकली महला १ ॥ Raamkalee mėhlaa 1. Raamkalee, First Mehl: ਜੁਗਹ ਜੁਗੰਤਰਿ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਈ ॥ जुगह जुगंतरि साहिबु सचु सोई ॥ Jugah juganṫar saahib sach so▫ee. He is the True Lord and Master, throughout the ages. ਜੋ ਕਹੀਐ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇ ਹੋਈ ॥ जो कहीऐ सो प्रभ ते होई ॥ Jo kahee▫æ so parabʰ ṫé ho▫ee. Whatever is said to be, is from You, O God. ਉਤਪਤਿ ਪਰਲਉ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥੧॥ उतपति परलउ अवरु न कोई ॥१॥ Uṫpaṫ parla▫o avar na ko▫ee. ||1|| Creation and destruction do not come from anyone else. ||1|| ਐਸਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਗਹਿਰ ਗੰਭੀਰੁ ॥ ऐसा मेरा ठाकुरु गहिर ग्मभीरु ॥ Æsaa méraa tʰaakur gahir gambʰeer. Such is my Lord and Master, profound and unfathomable. ਜਿਨਿ ਜਪਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਨ ਲਗੈ ਜਮ ਤੀਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ जिनि जपिआ तिन ही सुखु पाइआ हरि कै नामि न लगै जम तीरु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ Jin japi▫aa ṫin hee sukʰ paa▫i▫aa har kæ naam na lagæ jam ṫeer. ||1|| rahaa▫o. Whoever meditates on Him, finds peace. The arrow of the Messenger of Death does not strike one who has the Name of the Lord. ||1||Pause|| ਨਾਮੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਹੀਰਾ ਨਿਰਮੋਲੁ ॥ नामु रतनु हीरा निरमोलु ॥ Naam raṫan heeraa nirmol. The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is a priceless jewel, a diamond. ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਅਮਰੁ ਅਤੋਲੁ ॥ साचा साहिबु अमरु अतोलु ॥ Saachaa saahib amar aṫol. The True Lord Master is immortal and immeasurable. ਜਿਹਵਾ ਸੂਚੀ ਸਾਚਾ ਬੋਲੁ ॥ जिहवा सूची साचा बोलु ॥ Jihvaa soochee saachaa bol. That tongue which chants the True Name is pure. ਘਰਿ ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਰੋਲੁ ॥੨॥ घरि दरि साचा नाही रोलु ॥२॥ Gʰar ḋar saachaa naahee rol. ||2|| The True Lord is in the home of the self; there is no doubt about it. ||2|| ਇਕਿ ਬਨ ਮਹਿ ਬੈਸਹਿ ਡੂਗਰਿ ਅਸਥਾਨੁ ॥ इकि बन महि बैसहि डूगरि असथानु ॥ Ik ban mėh bæsėh doogar asṫʰaan. Some sit in the forests, and some make their home in the mountains. ਨਾਮੁ ਬਿਸਾਰਿ ਪਚਹਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥ नामु बिसारि पचहि अभिमानु ॥ Naam bisaar pachėh abʰimaan. Forgetting the Naam, they rot away in egotistical pride. ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਆ ਗਿਆਨ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥ नाम बिना किआ गिआन धिआनु ॥ Naam binaa ki▫aa gi▫aan ḋʰi▫aan. Without the Naam, what is the use of spiritual wisdom and meditation? ਹਠੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ਕਰੈ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਵੈ ॥ हठु अहंकारु करै नही पावै ॥ Hatʰ ahaⁿkaar karæ nahee paavæ. Acting stubbornly in egotism, one does not find the Lord. ਪਾਠ ਪੜੈ ਲੇ ਲੋਕ ਸੁਣਾਵੈ ॥ पाठ पड़ै ले लोक सुणावै ॥ Paatʰ paṛæ lé lok suṇaavæ. Studying the scriptures, reading them to other people, ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਦਰਗਹਿ ਮਾਨੁ ॥੩॥ गुरमुखि पावहि दरगहि मानु ॥३॥ Gurmukʰ paavahi ḋargahi maan. ||3|| The Gurmukhs are honored in the Court of the Lord. ||3|| ਤੀਰਥਿ ਭਰਮਸਿ ਬਿਆਧਿ ਨ ਜਾਵੈ ॥ तीरथि भरमसि बिआधि न जावै ॥ Ṫiraṫʰ bʰarmas bi▫aaḋʰ na jaavæ. and wandering around at places of pilgrimage, the disease is not taken away. ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੈਸੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੪॥ नाम बिना कैसे सुखु पावै ॥४॥ Naam binaa kæsé sukʰ paavæ. ||4|| Without the Naam, how can one find peace? ||4|| ਜਤਨ ਕਰੈ ਬਿੰਦੁ ਕਿਵੈ ਨ ਰਹਾਈ ॥ जतन करै बिंदु किवै न रहाई ॥ Jaṫan karæ binḋ kivæ na rahaa▫ee. No matter how much he tries, he cannot control his semen and seed. ਮਨੂਆ ਡੋਲੈ ਨਰਕੇ ਪਾਈ ॥ मनूआ डोलै नरके पाई ॥ Manoo▫aa dolæ narké paa▫ee. His mind wavers, and he falls into hell. ਜਮ ਪੁਰਿ ਬਾਧੋ ਲਹੈ ਸਜਾਈ ॥ जम पुरि बाधो लहै सजाई ॥ Jam pur baaḋʰo lahæ sajaa▫ee. Bound and gagged in the City of Death, he is tortured. ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਜੀਉ ਜਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈ ॥੫॥ बिनु नावै जीउ जलि बलि जाई ॥५॥ Bin naavæ jee▫o jal bal jaa▫ee. ||5|| Without the Name, his soul cries out in agony. ||5|| ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕ ਕੇਤੇ ਮੁਨਿ ਦੇਵਾ ॥ सिध साधिक केते मुनि देवा ॥ Siḋʰ saaḋʰik kéṫé mun ḋévaa. The many Siddhas and seekers, silent sages and demi-gods ਹਠਿ ਨਿਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਵਹਿ ਭੇਵਾ ॥ हठि निग्रहि न त्रिपतावहि भेवा ॥ Hatʰ nigrahi na ṫaripṫaavėh bʰévaa. cannot satisfy themselves by practicing restraint through Hatha Yoga. ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ਗਹਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ॥ सबदु वीचारि गहहि गुर सेवा ॥ Sabaḋ veechaar gahėh gur sévaa. One who contemplates the Word of the Shabad, and serves the Guru - ਤੁਮ ਸਰਣਾਗਤਿ ਰਹਉ ਸੁਭਾਉ ॥ तुम सरणागति रहउ सुभाउ ॥ Ṫum sarṇaagaṫ raha▫o subʰaa▫o. I remain in Your Sanctuary, in loving devotion. ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਅਭਿਮਾਨ ਅਭੇਵਾ ॥੬॥ मनि तनि निरमल अभिमान अभेवा ॥६॥ Man ṫan nirmal abʰimaan abʰévaa. ||6|| his mind and body become immaculate, and his egotistical pride is obliterated. ||6|| ਕਰਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਪਾਵੈ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਉ ॥ करमि मिलै पावै सचु नाउ ॥ Karam milæ paavæ sach naa▫o. Blessed with Your Grace, I obtain the True Name. ਤੁਮ ਤੇ ਉਪਜਿਓ ਭਗਤੀ ਭਾਉ ॥ तुम ते उपजिओ भगती भाउ ॥ Ṫum ṫé upji▫o bʰagṫee bʰaa▫o. Love for Your devotional worship has welled up within me. ਜਪੁ ਜਾਪਉ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਉ ॥੭॥ जपु जापउ गुरमुखि हरि नाउ ॥७॥ Jap jaapa▫o gurmukʰ har naa▫o. ||7|| As Gurmukh, I chant and meditate on the Lord’s Name. ||7|| ਹਉਮੈ ਗਰਬੁ ਜਾਇ ਮਨ ਭੀਨੈ ॥ हउमै गरबु जाइ मन भीनै ॥ Ha▫umæ garab jaa▫é man bʰeenæ. When one is rid of egotism and pride, his mind is drenched in the Lord’s Love. ਝੂਠਿ ਨ ਪਾਵਸਿ ਪਾਖੰਡਿ ਕੀਨੈ ॥ झूठि न पावसि पाखंडि कीनै ॥ Jʰootʰ na paavas pakʰand keenæ. Practicing fraud and hypocrisy, he does not find God. ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦ ਨਹੀ ਘਰੁ ਬਾਰੁ ॥ बिनु गुर सबद नही घरु बारु ॥ Bin gur sabaḋ nahee gʰar baar. Without the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, he cannot find the Lord’s Door. ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥੮॥੬॥ नानक गुरमुखि ततु बीचारु ॥८॥६॥ Naanak gurmukʰ ṫaṫ beechaar. ||8||6|| O Nanak! The Gurmukh contemplates the essence of reality. ||8||6||
