ਆਤਮਾ ਦੇਉ ਪੂਜੀਐ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥ आतमा देउ पूजीऐ गुर कै सहजि सुभाइ ॥ Aaṫmaa ḋé▫o poojee▫æ gur kæ sahj subʰaa▫é. Worship the Divine, Supreme Soul, with the intuitive peace and poise of the Guru. ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੩ ॥ सलोक मः ३ ॥ Salok mėhlaa 3. Shalok, Third Mehl: ਆਤਮੇ ਨੋ ਆਤਮੇ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਤਾ ਘਰ ਹੀ ਪਰਚਾ ਪਾਇ ॥ आतमे नो आतमे दी प्रतीति होइ ता घर ही परचा पाइ ॥ Aaṫmé no aaṫmé ḋee parṫeeṫ ho▫é ṫaa gʰar hee parchaa paa▫é. If the individual soul has faith in the Supreme Soul, then it shall obtain realization within its own home. ਆਤਮਾ ਅਡੋਲੁ ਨ ਡੋਲਈ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਇ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥ आतमा अडोलु न डोलई गुर कै भाइ सुभाइ ॥ Aaṫmaa adol na dol▫ee gur kæ bʰaa▫é subʰaa▫é. The soul becomes steady, and does not waver, by the natural inclination of the Guru’s Loving Will. ਗੁਰ ਵਿਣੁ ਸਹਜੁ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਲੋਭੁ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜਾਇ ॥ गुर विणु सहजु न आवई लोभु मैलु न विचहु जाइ ॥ Gur viṇ sahj na aavee lobʰ mæl na vichahu jaa▫é. Without the Guru, intuitive wisdom does not come, and the filth of greed does not depart from within. ਖਿਨੁ ਪਲੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਸਭ ਅਠਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਨਾਇ ॥ खिनु पलु हरि नामु मनि वसै सभ अठसठि तीरथ नाइ ॥ Kʰin pal har naam man vasæ sabʰ atʰsatʰ ṫiraṫʰ naa▫é. If the Lord’s Name abides within the mind, for a moment, even for an instant, it is like bathing at all the sixty-eight sacred shrines of pilgrimage. ਸਚੇ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਲਗਈ ਮਲੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ॥ सचे मैलु न लगई मलु लागै दूजै भाइ ॥ Saché mæl na lag▫ee mal laagæ ḋoojæ bʰaa▫é. Filth does not stick to those who are true, but filth attaches itself to those who love duality. ਧੋਤੀ ਮੂਲਿ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਜੇ ਅਠਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਨਾਇ ॥ धोती मूलि न उतरै जे अठसठि तीरथ नाइ ॥ Ḋʰoṫee mool na uṫræ jé atʰsatʰ ṫiraṫʰ naa▫é. This filth cannot be washed off, even by bathing at the sixty-eight sacred shrines of pilgrimage. ਮਨਮੁਖ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਸਭੁ ਦੁਖੋ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਮਾਇ ॥ मनमुख करम करे अहंकारी सभु दुखो दुखु कमाइ ॥ Manmukʰ karam karé ahaⁿkaaree sabʰ ḋukʰo ḋukʰ kamaa▫é. The self-willed Manmukh does deeds in egotism; he earns only pain and more pain. ਨਾਨਕ ਮੈਲਾ ਊਜਲੁ ਤਾ ਥੀਐ ਜਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥ नानक मैला ऊजलु ता थीऐ जा सतिगुर माहि समाइ ॥१॥ Naanak mælaa oojal ṫaa ṫʰee▫æ jaa saṫgur maahi samaa▫é. ||1|| O Nanak! The filthy ones become clean only when they meet and surrender to the True Guru. ||1||
