ਬਿਲਾਵਲੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥ बिलावलु महला ३ ॥ Bilaaval mėhlaa 3. Bilaaval, Third Mehl: ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਆਪੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਸਾਜੇ ॥ आदि पुरखु आपे स्रिसटि साजे ॥ Aaḋ purakʰ aapé sarisat saajé. The Primal Lord Himself formed the Universe. ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਪਾਜੇ ॥ जीअ जंत माइआ मोहि पाजे ॥ Jee▫a janṫ maa▫i▫aa mohi paajé. The beings and creatures are engrossed in emotional attachment to Maya. ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਪਰਪੰਚਿ ਲਾਗੇ ॥ दूजै भाइ परपंचि लागे ॥ Ḋoojæ bʰaa▫é parpanch laagé. In the love of duality, they are attached to the illusory material world. ਆਵਹਿ ਜਾਵਹਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਅਭਾਗੇ ॥ आवहि जावहि मरहि अभागे ॥ Aavahi jaavėh marėh abʰaagé. The unfortunate ones die, and continue to come and go. ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਭੇਟਿਐ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਇ ॥ सतिगुरि भेटिऐ सोझी पाइ ॥ Saṫgur bʰéti▫æ sojʰee paa▫é. Meeting with the True Guru, understanding is obtained. ਪਰਪੰਚੁ ਚੂਕੈ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥ परपंचु चूकै सचि समाइ ॥१॥ Parpanch chookæ sach samaa▫é. ||1|| Then, the illusion of the material world is shattered, and one merges in Truth. ||1|| ਜਾ ਕੈ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਲੇਖੁ ॥ जा कै मसतकि लिखिआ लेखु ॥ Jaa kæ masṫak likʰi▫aa lékʰ. One who has such preordained destiny inscribed upon his forehead - ਤਾ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਏਕੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ ता कै मनि वसिआ प्रभु एकु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ Ṫaa kæ man vasi▫aa parabʰ ék. ||1|| rahaa▫o. the One God abides within his mind. ||1||Pause|| ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਇ ਆਪੇ ਸਭੁ ਵੇਖੈ ॥ स्रिसटि उपाइ आपे सभु वेखै ॥ Sarisat upaa▫é aapé sabʰ vékʰæ. He created the Universe, and He Himself beholds all. ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕ ਜੇ ਕੋ ਕਹੈ ਕਹਾਏ ॥ सिध साधिक जे को कहै कहाए ॥ Siḋʰ saaḋʰik jé ko kahæ kahaa▫é. If someone calls himself a Siddha or a seeker, ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੈ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਬੂਝੈ ॥ सतिगुरु सेवै सो जनु बूझै ॥ Saṫgur sévæ so jan boojʰæ. That humble being alone understands, who serves the True Guru. ਭਰਮੇ ਭੂਲਾ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਏ ॥ भरमे भूला आवै जाए ॥ Bʰarmé bʰoolaa aavæ jaa▫é. he is deluded by doubt, and will continue coming and going. ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮੇਟੈ ਤੇਰੈ ਲੇਖੈ ॥ कोइ न मेटै तेरै लेखै ॥ Ko▫é na métæ ṫéræ lékʰæ. No one can erase Your record, Lord. ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੇ ਤਾ ਦਰੁ ਸੂਝੈ ॥੨॥ हउमै मारे ता दरु सूझै ॥२॥ Ha▫umæ maaré ṫaa ḋar soojʰæ. ||2|| Conquering his ego, he finds the Lord’s Door. ||2|| ਏਕਸੁ ਤੇ ਸਭੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਹੂਆ ॥ एकसु ते सभु दूजा हूआ ॥ Ékas ṫé sabʰ ḋoojaa hoo▫aa. From the One Lord, all others were formed. ਏਕੋ ਵਰਤੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਬੀਆ ॥ एको वरतै अवरु न बीआ ॥ Éko varṫæ avar na bee▫aa. The One Lord is pervading everywhere; there is no other at all. ਦੂਜੇ ਤੇ ਜੇ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਣੈ ॥ दूजे ते जे एको जाणै ॥ Ḋoojé ṫé jé éko jaaṇæ. Renouncing duality, one comes to know the One Lord. ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਿ ਨੀਸਾਣੈ ॥ गुर कै सबदि हरि दरि नीसाणै ॥ Gur kæ sabaḋ har ḋar neesaaṇæ. Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, one knows the Lord’s Door, and His Banner. ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੇ ਤਾ ਏਕੋ ਪਾਏ ॥ सतिगुरु भेटे ता एको पाए ॥ Saṫgur bʰété ṫaa éko paa▫é. Meeting the True Guru, one finds the One Lord. ਵਿਚਹੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਏ ॥੩॥ विचहु दूजा ठाकि रहाए ॥३॥ vichahu ḋoojaa tʰaak rahaa▫é. ||3|| Duality is subdued within. ||3|| ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥ आपे बखसे दे वडिआई ॥ Aapé bakʰsé ḋé vadi▫aa▫ee. The Lord Himself forgives him, and blesses him with glorious greatness. ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਰਹੈ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥ साहिब की सेवकु रहै सरणाई ॥ Saahib kee sévak rahæ sarṇaa▫ee. The Lord’s servant remains under His protection; ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਮਾਰਿ ਨ ਸਾਕੈ ਕੋਇ ॥ तिस नो मारि न साकै कोइ ॥ Ṫis no maar na saakæ ko▫é. no one can destroy him. ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਡਾਢਾ ਹੋਇ ॥ जिस दा साहिबु डाढा होइ ॥ Jis ḋaa saahib daadʰaa ho▫é. One who belongs to the All-powerful Lord and Master - ਕਉਣੁ ਡਰੈ ਡਰੁ ਕਿਸ ਕਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥ कउणु डरै डरु किस का होइ ॥४॥ Ka▫uṇ daræ dar kis kaa ho▫é. ||4|| Why should he be afraid? What should he ever fear? ||4|| ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਵਸੈ ਸਰੀਰ ॥ गुरमती सांति वसै सरीर ॥ Gurmaṫee saaⁿṫ vasæ sareer. Through the Guru’s Teachings, peace and tranquility abide within the body. ਤਿਸ ਤੇ ਊਪਰਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥ तिस ते ऊपरि नाही कोइ ॥ Ṫis ṫé oopar naahee ko▫é. There is none higher than Him. ਸਬਦੁ ਚੀਨੑਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਲਗੈ ਨ ਪੀਰ ॥ सबदु चीन्हि फिरि लगै न पीर ॥ Sabaḋ cheenėh fir lagæ na peer. Remember the Word of the Shabad, and you shall never suffer pain. ਆਵੈ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਨਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥ आवै न जाइ ना दुखु पाए ॥ Aavæ na jaa▫é naa ḋukʰ paa▫é. You shall not have to come or go or suffer in sorrow. ਨਾਮੇ ਰਾਤੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥ नामे राते सहजि समाए ॥ Naamé raaṫé sahj samaa▫é. Imbued with the Naam, the Name of the Lord, you shall merge in celestial peace. ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥ नानक गुरमुखि वेखै हदूरि ॥ Naanak gurmukʰ vékʰæ haḋoor. O Nanak! The Gurmukh beholds Him ever-present, close at hand. ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਦ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥੫॥ मेरा प्रभु सद रहिआ भरपूरि ॥५॥ Méraa parabʰ saḋ rahi▫aa bʰarpoor. ||5|| My God is always fully pervading everywhere. ||5|| ਇਕਿ ਸੇਵਕ ਇਕਿ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਏ ॥ इकि सेवक इकि भरमि भुलाए ॥ Ik sévak ik bʰaram bʰulaa▫é. Some are selfless servants, while others wander, deluded by doubt. ਮਨਿ ਰੋਸੁ ਕੀਜੈ ਜੇ ਦੂਜਾ ਹੋਇ ॥ मनि रोसु कीजै जे दूजा होइ ॥ Man ros keejæ jé ḋoojaa ho▫é. The mortal might complain, if there were any other. ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਾਰੀ ॥ सतिगुरु सेवे करणी सारी ॥ Saṫgur sévé karṇee saaree. Serve the True Guru; this is the most excellent action. ਏਕੋ ਵਰਤੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥ एको वरतै अवरु न कोइ ॥ Éko varṫæ avar na ko▫é. The One Lord is all-pervading; there is no other at all. ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਏ ॥ आपे करे हरि आपि कराए ॥ Aapé karé har aap karaa▫é. The Lord Himself does, and causes everything to be done. ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਾਚੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੬॥ दरि साचै साचे वीचारी ॥६॥ Ḋar saachæ saaché veechaaree. ||6|| In the Court of the True Lord, you shall be judged true. ||6|| ਥਿਤੀ ਵਾਰ ਸਭਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਏ ॥ थिती वार सभि सबदि सुहाए ॥ Ṫʰiṫee vaar sabʰ sabaḋ suhaa▫é. All the lunar days, and the days of the week are beautiful, when one contemplates on the Shabad. ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਤਾ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਏ ॥ सतिगुरु सेवे ता फलु पाए ॥ Saṫgur sévé ṫaa fal paa▫é. If one serves the True Guru, he obtains the fruits of his rewards. ਥਿਤੀ ਵਾਰ ਸਭਿ ਆਵਹਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥ थिती वार सभि आवहि जाहि ॥ Ṫʰiṫee vaar sabʰ aavahi jaahi. The omens and days all come and go. ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥ गुर सबदु निहचलु सदा सचि समाहि ॥ Gur sabaḋ nihchal saḋaa sach samaahi. But the Word of the Guru’s Shabad is eternal and unchanging. Through it, one merges in the True Lord. ਥਿਤੀ ਵਾਰ ਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਚਿ ਰਾਤੇ ॥ थिती वार ता जा सचि राते ॥ Ṫʰiṫee vaar ṫaa jaa sach raaṫé. The days are auspicious, when one is imbued with Truth. ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸਭਿ ਭਰਮਹਿ ਕਾਚੇ ॥੭॥ बिनु नावै सभि भरमहि काचे ॥७॥ Bin naavæ sabʰ bʰarmėh kaaché. ||7|| Without the Name, all the false ones wander deluded. ||7|| ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮਰਹਿ ਮਰਿ ਬਿਗਤੀ ਜਾਹਿ ॥ मनमुख मरहि मरि बिगती जाहि ॥ Manmukʰ marėh mar bigṫee jaahi. The self-willed Manmukhs die, and dead, they fall into the most evil state. ਏਕੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਲੋਭਾਹਿ ॥ एकु न चेतहि दूजै लोभाहि ॥ Ék na cheeṫėh ḋoojæ lobʰaahi. They do not remember the One Lord; they are deluded by duality. ਆਪਿ ਉਪਾਏ ਉਪਾਵਣਹਾਰੁ ॥ आपि उपाए उपावणहारु ॥ Aap upaa▫é upaavaṇhaar. The Creator Himself creates. ਅਚੇਤ ਪਿੰਡੀ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਧਾਰੁ ॥ अचेत पिंडी अगिआन अंधारु ॥ Achéṫ pindee agi▫aan anḋʰaar. The human body is unconscious, ignorant and blind. ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਕਿਉ ਪਾਏ ਪਾਰੁ ॥ बिनु सबदै किउ पाए पारु ॥ Bin sabḋæ ki▫o paa▫é paar. Without the Word of the Shabad, how can anyone cross over? ਆਪੇ ਕੀਤੋਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥੮॥ आपे कीतोनु गुर वीचारु ॥८॥ Aapé keeṫon gur veechaar. ||8|| He Himself contemplates the Guru’s Word. ||8|| ਬਹੁਤੇ ਭੇਖ ਕਰਹਿ ਭੇਖਧਾਰੀ ॥ बहुते भेख करहि भेखधारी ॥ Bahuṫé bʰékʰ karahi bʰékʰ▫ḋʰaaree. The religious fanatics wear all sorts of religious robes. ਭਵਿ ਭਵਿ ਭਰਮਹਿ ਕਾਚੀ ਸਾਰੀ ॥ भवि भवि भरमहि काची सारी ॥ Bʰav bʰav bʰarmėh kaachee saaree. They roll around and wander around, like the false dice on the board. ਐਥੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਆਗੈ ਹੋਇ ॥ ऐथै सुखु न आगै होइ ॥ Æṫʰæ sukʰ na aagæ ho▫é. They find no peace, here or hereafter. ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੁਏ ਅਪਣਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਖੋਇ ॥ मनमुख मुए अपणा जनमु खोइ ॥ Manmukʰ mu▫é apṇaa janam kʰo▫é. The self-willed Manmukhs waste away their lives, and die. ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਏ ॥ सतिगुरु सेवे भरमु चुकाए ॥ Saṫgur sévé bʰaram chukaa▫é. Serving the True Guru, doubt is driven away. ਘਰ ਹੀ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸਚੁ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਾਏ ॥੯॥ घर ही अंदरि सचु महलु पाए ॥९॥ Gʰar hee anḋar sach mahal paa▫é. ||9|| Deep within the home of the heart, one finds the Mansion of the True Lord’s Presence. ||9|| ਆਪੇ ਪੂਰਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ आपे पूरा करे सु होइ ॥ Aapé pooraa karé so ho▫é. Whatever the Perfect Lord does, that alone happens. ਏਹਿ ਥਿਤੀ ਵਾਰ ਦੂਜਾ ਦੋਇ ॥ एहि थिती वार दूजा दोइ ॥ Éhi ṫʰiṫee vaar ḋoojaa ḋo▫é. Concern with these omens and days leads only to duality. ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਅੰਧੁ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ॥ सतिगुर बाझहु अंधु गुबारु ॥ Saṫgur baajʰahu anḋʰ gubaar. Without the True Guru, there is only pitch darkness. ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਇ ॥ नानक गुरमुखि बूझै सोझी पाइ ॥ Naanak gurmukʰ boojʰæ sojʰee paa▫é. O Nanak! The Gurmukh obtains understanding and realization; ਇਕਤੁ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਦਾ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧੦॥੨॥ इकतु नामि सदा रहिआ समाइ ॥१०॥२॥ Ikaṫ naam saḋaa rahi▫aa samaa▫é. ||10||2|| he remains forever merged in the Name of the One Lord. ||10||2|| ਥਿਤੀ ਵਾਰ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਮੁਗਧ ਗਵਾਰ ॥ थिती वार सेवहि मुगध गवार ॥ Ṫʰiṫee vaar sévėh mugaḋʰ gavaar. Only idiots and fools worry about these omens and days.
