ਬਿਲਾਵਲੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥ बिलावलु महला १ ॥ Bilāval mėhlā 1. Bilaawal, First Mehl: ਆਪੇ ਸਬਦੁ ਆਪੇ ਨੀਸਾਨੁ ॥ आपे सबदु आपे नीसानु ॥ Āpe sabaḏ āpe nīsān. He Himself is the Word of the Shabad, and He Himself is the Insignia. ਤੂ ਦਾਤਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥੧॥ तू दाता नामु परवाणु ॥१॥ Ŧū ḏāṯā nām parvāṇ. ||1|| You are the Great Giver; Your Name alone is approved. ||1|| ਆਪੇ ਸੁਰਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਨੁ ॥ आपे सुरता आपे जानु ॥ Āpe surṯā āpe jān. He Himself is the Listener, and He Himself is the Knower. ਆਪੇ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਤਾਣੁ ॥ आपे करि करि वेखै ताणु ॥ Āpe kar kar vekẖai ṯāṇ. He Himself created the creation, and He Himself beholds His almighty power. ਐਸਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਦੇਉ ॥ ऐसा नामु निरंजन देउ ॥ Aisā nām niranjan ḏe▫o. Such is the Name of the Immaculate, Divine Lord. ਹਉ ਜਾਚਿਕੁ ਤੂ ਅਲਖ ਅਭੇਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ हउ जाचिकु तू अलख अभेउ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ Ha▫o jācẖik ṯū alakẖ abẖe▫o. ||1|| rahā▫o. I am just a beggar; You are invisible and unknowable. ||1||Pause|| ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਧਰਕਟੀ ਨਾਰਿ ॥ माइआ मोहु धरकटी नारि ॥ Mā▫i▫ā moh ḏẖarkatī nār. Love of Maya is like a cursed woman, ਭੂੰਡੀ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਕਾਮਣਿਆਰਿ ॥ भूंडी कामणि कामणिआरि ॥ Bẖūʼndī kāmaṇ kāmaṇi▫ār. ugly, dirty and promiscuous. ਰਾਜੁ ਰੂਪੁ ਝੂਠਾ ਦਿਨ ਚਾਰਿ ॥ राजु रूपु झूठा दिन चारि ॥ Rāj rūp jẖūṯẖā ḏin cẖār. Power and beauty are false, and last for only a few days. ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਅੰਧਿਆਰਿ ॥੨॥ नामु मिलै चानणु अंधिआरि ॥२॥ Nām milai cẖānaṇ anḏẖi▫ār. ||2|| But when one is blessed with the Naam, the darkness within is illuminated. ||2|| ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੩॥ करता करे करावै सोइ ॥३॥ Karṯā kare karāvai so▫e. ||3|| The Creator acts, and causes all to act. ||3|| ਏਕੇ ਕਉ ਨਾਹੀ ਭਉ ਕੋਇ ॥ एके कउ नाही भउ कोइ ॥ Ėke ka▫o nāhī bẖa▫o ko▫e. One who belongs to the One Lord, has no fear. ਬਾਪੁ ਦਿਸੈ ਵੇਜਾਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥ बापु दिसै वेजाति न होइ ॥ Bāp ḏisai vejāṯ na ho▫e. One whose father is known, cannot be illegitimate. ਚਖਿ ਛੋਡੀ ਸਹਸਾ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥ चखि छोडी सहसा नही कोइ ॥ Cẖakẖ cẖẖodī sahsā nahī ko▫e. I tasted Maya and renounced it, and now, I have no doubts. ਸਬਦਿ ਮੁਏ ਮਨੁ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਮਾਰਿਆ ॥ सबदि मुए मनु मन ते मारिआ ॥ Sabaḏ mu▫e man man ṯe māri▫ā. One who dies in the Word of the Shabad conquers his mind, through his mind. ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹੇ ਮਨੁ ਸਾਚੈ ਧਾਰਿਆ ॥ ठाकि रहे मनु साचै धारिआ ॥ Ŧẖāk rahe man sācẖai ḏẖāri▫ā. Keeping his mind restrained, he enshrines the True Lord within his heart. ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਵਾਰਿਆ ॥ अवरु न सूझै गुर कउ वारिआ ॥ Avar na sūjẖai gur ka▫o vāri▫ā. He does not know any other, and he is a sacrifice to the Guru. ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਿਆ ॥੪॥੩॥ नानक नामि रते निसतारिआ ॥४॥३॥ Nānak nām raṯe nisṯāri▫ā. ||4||3|| O Nanak, attuned to the Naam, he is emancipated. ||4||3||
