ਸੂਹੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ सूही महला ५ ॥ Soohee mėhlaa 5. Soohee, Fifth Mehl: ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਣ ਪੁਕਾਰਨਿ ਪੋਥੀਆ ॥ सिम्रिति बेद पुराण पुकारनि पोथीआ ॥ Simriṫ béḋ puraaṇ pukaaran poṫʰee▫aa. The Smritis, the Vedas, the Puranas and the other holy scriptures proclaim ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ਭਗਤਾ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ॥ नामु निधानु अपारु भगता मनि वसै ॥ Naam niḋʰaan apaar bʰagṫaa man vasæ. The infinite treasure of the Naam abides within the minds of the devotees. ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਸਭਿ ਕੂੜੁ ਗਾਲੑੀ ਹੋਛੀਆ ॥੧॥ नाम बिना सभि कूड़ु गाल्ही होछीआ ॥१॥ Naam binaa sabʰ kooṛ gaalĥee hochʰee▫aa. ||1|| that without the Naam, everything is false and worthless. ||1|| ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਮੋਹੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਨਸੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ जनम मरण मोहु दुखु साधू संगि नसै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ Janam maraṇ moh ḋukʰ saaḋʰoo sang nasæ. ||1|| rahaa▫o. Birth and death, attachment and suffering, are erased in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||1||Pause|| ਮੋਹਿ ਬਾਦਿ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਿ ਸਰਪਰ ਰੁੰਨਿਆ ॥ मोहि बादि अहंकारि सरपर रुंनिआ ॥ Mohi baaḋ ahaⁿkaar sarpar runni▫aa. Those who indulge in attachment, conflict and egotism shall surely weep and cry. ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਨੑਿ ਮੂਲਿ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਛੁੰਨਿਆ ॥੨॥ सुखु न पाइन्हि मूलि नाम विछुंनिआ ॥२॥ Sukʰ na paa▫iniĥ mool naam vichʰunni▫aa. ||2|| Those who are separated from the Naam shall never find any peace. ||2|| ਮੇਰੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਧਾਰਿ ਬੰਧਨਿ ਬੰਧਿਆ ॥ मेरी मेरी धारि बंधनि बंधिआ ॥ Méree méree ḋʰaar banḋʰan banḋʰi▫aa. Crying out, “Mine! Mine!”, he is bound in bondage. ਨਰਕਿ ਸੁਰਗਿ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਧੰਧਿਆ ॥੩॥ नरकि सुरगि अवतार माइआ धंधिआ ॥३॥ Narak surag avṫaar maa▫i▫aa ḋʰanḋʰi▫aa. ||3|| Entangled in Maya, he is reincarnated in heaven and hell. ||3|| ਸੋਧਤ ਸੋਧਤ ਸੋਧਿ ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਿਆ ॥ सोधत सोधत सोधि ततु बीचारिआ ॥ Soḋʰaṫ soḋʰaṫ soḋʰ ṫaṫ beechaari▫aa. Searching, searching, searching, I have come to understand the essence of reality. ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਾਹਿ ਸਰਪਰ ਹਾਰਿਆ ॥੪॥ नाम बिना सुखु नाहि सरपर हारिआ ॥४॥ Naam binaa sukʰ naahi sarpar haari▫aa. ||4|| Without the Naam, there is no peace at all, and the mortal will surely fail. ||4|| ਜਿਨੑ ਕਉ ਭਏ ਦਇਆਲ ਤਿਨੑ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗੁ ਭਇਆ ॥ जिन्ह कउ भए दइआल तिन्ह साधू संगु भइआ ॥ Jinĥ ka▫o bʰa▫é ḋa▫i▫aal ṫinĥ saaḋʰoo sang bʰa▫i▫aa. They alone join the Saadh Sangat, unto whom the Lord becomes Merciful. ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝੇ ਸਭੁ ਵਾਦਿ ਜੋਨੀ ਭਰਮਤੇ ॥੫॥ बिनु बूझे सभु वादि जोनी भरमते ॥५॥ Bin boojʰé sabʰ vaaḋ jonee bʰarmaṫé. ||5|| Without understanding, they are totally useless, and they wander in reincarnation. ||5|| ਆਵਹਿ ਜਾਹਿ ਅਨੇਕ ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜਨਮਤੇ ॥ आवहि जाहि अनेक मरि मरि जनमते ॥ Aavahi jaahi anék mar mar janmaṫé. Many come and go; they die, and die again, and are reincarnated. ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਤਿਨੑੀ ਜਨੀ ਜਪਿ ਲਇਆ ॥੬॥ अमृतु हरि का नामु तिन्ही जनी जपि लइआ ॥६॥ Amriṫ har kaa naam ṫinĥee janee jap la▫i▫aa. ||6|| They chant and meditate on the Ambrosial Name of the Lord. ||6|| ਖੋਜਹਿ ਕੋਟਿ ਅਸੰਖ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਅਨੰਤ ਕੇ ॥ खोजहि कोटि असंख बहुतु अनंत के ॥ Kʰojėh kot asaⁿkʰ bahuṫ ananṫ ké. Uncounted millions, so many they are endless, search for Him. ਜਿਸੁ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਆਪਿ ਨੇੜਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਹੇ ॥੭॥ जिसु बुझाए आपि नेड़ा तिसु हे ॥७॥ Jis bujʰaa▫é aap néṛaa ṫis hé. ||7|| But only that one, who understands his own self, sees God near at hand. ||7|| ਵਿਸਰੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਦਾਤਾਰ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਹੁ ॥ विसरु नाही दातार आपणा नामु देहु ॥ visar naahee ḋaaṫaar aapṇaa naam ḋéh. Never forget me, O Great Giver - please bless me with Your Naam. ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਚਾਉ ਏਹੁ ॥੮॥੨॥੫॥੧੬॥ गुण गावा दिनु राति नानक चाउ एहु ॥८॥२॥५॥१६॥ Guṇ gaavaa ḋin raaṫ Naanak chaa▫o éhu. ||8||2||5||16|| To sing Your Glorious Praises day and night - O Nanak! This is my heart-felt desire. ||8||2||5||16||
