ਮਾਨੁਖੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝੇ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਆਇਆ ॥ मानुखु बिनु बूझे बिरथा आइआ ॥ Mānukẖ bin būjẖe birthā ā▫i▫ā. Without understanding, his coming into the world is useless. ਟੋਡੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ टोडी महला ५ ॥ Todī mėhlā 5. Todee, Fifth Mehl: ਅਨਿਕ ਸਾਜ ਸੀਗਾਰ ਬਹੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਜਿਉ ਮਿਰਤਕੁ ਓਢਾਇਆ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ अनिक साज सीगार बहु करता जिउ मिरतकु ओढाइआ ॥ रहाउ ॥ Anik sāj sīgār baho karṯā ji▫o mirṯak odẖā▫i▫o. Rahā▫o. He puts on various ornaments and many decorations, but it is like dressing a corpse. ||Pause|| ਧਾਇ ਧਾਇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਨ ਸ੍ਰਮੁ ਕੀਨੋ ਇਕਤ੍ਰ ਕਰੀ ਹੈ ਮਾਇਆ ॥ धाइ धाइ क्रिपन स्रमु कीनो इकत्र करी है माइआ ॥ Ḏẖā▫e ḏẖā▫e kirpan saram kīno ikaṯar karī hai mā▫i▫ā. With great effort and exertion, the miser works to gather in the riches of Maya. ਦਾਨੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਨਹੀ ਸੰਤਨ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਿਤ ਹੀ ਕਾਜਿ ਨ ਆਇਆ ॥੧॥ दानु पुंनु नही संतन सेवा कित ही काजि न आइआ ॥१॥ Ḏān punn nahī sanṯan sevā kiṯ hī kāj na ā▫i▫ā. ||1|| He does not give anything in charity or generosity, and he does not serve the Saints; his wealth does not do him any good at all. ||1|| ਕਰਿ ਆਭਰਣ ਸਵਾਰੀ ਸੇਜਾ ਕਾਮਨਿ ਥਾਟੁ ਬਨਾਇਆ ॥ करि आभरण सवारी सेजा कामनि थाटु बनाइआ ॥ Kar ābẖraṇ savārī sejā kāman thāt banā▫i▫ā. The soul-bride puts on her ornaments, embellishes her bed, and fashions decorations. ਸੰਗੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਭਰਤੇ ਪੇਖਿ ਪੇਖਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੨॥ संगु न पाइओ अपुने भरते पेखि पेखि दुखु पाइआ ॥२॥ Sang na pā▫i▫o apune bẖarṯe pekẖ pekẖ ḏukẖ pā▫i▫ā. ||2|| But if she does not obtain the company of her Husband Lord, the sight of these decorations only brings her pain. ||2|| ਸਾਰੋ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਮਜੂਰੀ ਕਰਤਾ ਤੁਹੁ ਮੂਸਲਹਿ ਛਰਾਇਆ ॥ सारो दिनसु मजूरी करता तुहु मूसलहि छराइआ ॥ Sāro ḏinas majūrī karṯā ṯuhu mūslahi cẖẖarā▫i▫ā. The man works all day long, threshing the husks with the pestle. ਖੇਦੁ ਭਇਓ ਬੇਗਾਰੀ ਨਿਆਈ ਘਰ ਕੈ ਕਾਮਿ ਨ ਆਇਆ ॥੩॥ खेदु भइओ बेगारी निआई घर कै कामि न आइआ ॥३॥ Kẖeḏ bẖa▫i▫o begārī ni▫ā▫ī gẖar kai kām na ā▫i▫ā. ||3|| He is depressed, like a forced laborer, and so he is of no use to his own home. ||3|| ਭਇਓ ਅਨੁਗ੍ਰਹੁ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਾਇਆ ॥ भइओ अनुग्रहु जा कउ प्रभ को तिसु हिरदै नामु वसाइआ ॥ Bẖa▫i▫o anūgrahu jā ka▫o parabẖ ko ṯis hirḏai nām vasā▫i▫ā. But when God shows His Mercy and Grace, He implants the Naam, the Name of the Lord, within the heart. ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਕੈ ਪਾਛੈ ਪਰਿਅਉ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੨॥੪॥ साधसंगति कै पाछै परिअउ जन नानक हरि रसु पाइआ ॥४॥२॥४॥ Sāḏẖsangaṯ kai pācẖẖai pari▫a▫o jan Nānak har ras pā▫i▫ā. ||4||2||4|| Search the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, O Nanak, and find the sublime essence of the Lord. ||4||2||4||
