ਕਾਲੁ ਅਹੇਰੀ ਫਿਰੈ ਬਧਿਕ ਜਿਉ ਕਹਹੁ ਕਵਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਕੀਜੈ ॥੧॥ कालु अहेरी फिरै बधिक जिउ कहहु कवन बिधि कीजै ॥१॥ Kāl aherī firai baḏẖik ji▫o kahhu kavan biḏẖ kījai. ||1|| Death, like a hunter, a butcher, is on the prowl; tell me, what can we do? ||1|| ਦਿਨ ਤੇ ਪਹਰ ਪਹਰ ਤੇ ਘਰੀਆਂ ਆਵ ਘਟੈ ਤਨੁ ਛੀਜੈ ॥ दिन ते पहर पहर ते घरीआं आव घटै तनु छीजै ॥ Ḏin ṯe pahar pahar ṯe gẖarī▫āʼn āv gẖatai ṯan cẖẖījai. Day by day, hour by hour, life runs its course, and the body withers away. ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਭਾਈ ਸੁਤ ਬਨਿਤਾ ਕਹਹੁ ਕੋਊ ਹੈ ਕਾ ਕਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ मात पिता भाई सुत बनिता कहहु कोऊ है का का ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ Māṯ piṯā bẖā▫ī suṯ baniṯā kahhu ko▫ū hai kā kā. ||1|| rahā▫o. Mother, father, siblings, children and spouse - tell me, who belongs to whom? ||1||Pause|| ਸੋ ਦਿਨੁ ਆਵਨ ਲਾਗਾ ॥ सो दिनु आवन लागा ॥ So ḏin āvan lāgā. That day is rapidly approaching. ਲਾਲਚ ਕਰੈ ਜੀਵਨ ਪਦ ਕਾਰਨ ਲੋਚਨ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ॥੨॥ लालच करै जीवन पद कारन लोचन कछू न सूझै ॥२॥ Lālacẖ karai jīvan paḏ kāran locẖan kacẖẖū na sūjẖai. ||2|| He acts in greed to maintain his life and status, and sees nothing with his eyes. ||2|| ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਜੋਤਿ ਕਾਇਆ ਮਹਿ ਬਰਤੈ ਆਪਾ ਪਸੂ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ॥ जब लगु जोति काइआ महि बरतै आपा पसू न बूझै ॥ Jab lag joṯ kā▫i▫ā mėh barṯai āpā pasū na būjẖai. As long as the light remains in the body, the beast does not understand himself. ਕਹਤ ਕਬੀਰ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਛੋਡਹੁ ਮਨ ਕੇ ਭਰਮਾ ॥ कहत कबीर सुनहु रे प्रानी छोडहु मन के भरमा ॥ Kahaṯ Kabīr sunhu re parānī cẖẖodahu man ke bẖarmā. Says Kabeer, listen, O mortal: Renounce the doubts of your mind. ਕੇਵਲ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਪਰਹੁ ਏਕ ਕੀ ਸਰਨਾਂ ॥੩॥੨॥ केवल नामु जपहु रे प्रानी परहु एक की सरनां ॥३॥२॥ Keval nām japahu re parānī parahu ek kī sarnāʼn. ||3||2|| Chant only the One Naam, the Name of the Lord, O mortal, and seek the Sanctuary of the One Lord. ||3||2||
