ਮਨੁ ਮਰੈ ਧਾਤੁ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਇ ॥ मनु मरै धातु मरि जाइ ॥ Man marai ḏẖāṯ mar jā▫e. When the mind is conquered, its turbulent wanderings are stopped. ਧਨਾਸਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥ धनासरी महला ३ ॥ Ḏẖanāsrī mėhlā 3. Dhanaasaree, Third Mehl: ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਮਰੈ ਦਾਰੂ ਜਾਣੈ ਕੋਇ ॥ इहु मनु मरै दारू जाणै कोइ ॥ Ih man marai ḏārū jāṇai ko▫e. Rare is the one who knows the medicine to conquer the mind. ਬਿਨੁ ਮਨ ਮੂਏ ਕੈਸੇ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇ ॥ बिनु मन मूए कैसे हरि पाइ ॥ Bin man mū▫e kaise har pā▫e. Without conquering the mind, how can the Lord be found? ਮਨੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਨੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥ मनु सबदि मरै बूझै जनु सोइ ॥१॥ Man sabaḏ marai būjẖai jan so▫e. ||1|| The mind is conquered through the Word of the Shabad; this is known to the Lord's humble servant. ||1|| ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ गुर परसादि वसै मनि आई ॥ रहाउ ॥ Gur parsāḏ vasai man ā▫ī. Rahā▫o. By Guru's Grace, the Lord comes to dwell in the mind. ||Pause|| ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਬਖਸੇ ਹਰਿ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥ जिस नो बखसे हरि दे वडिआई ॥ Jis no bakẖse har ḏe vadi▫ā▫ī. The Lord forgives him, and blesses him with glory. ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਰਣੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥ गुरमुखि करणी कार कमावै ॥ Gurmukẖ karṇī kār kamāvai. The Gurmukh does good deeds, ਤਾ ਇਸੁ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਵੈ ॥ ता इसु मन की सोझी पावै ॥ Ŧā is man kī sojẖī pāvai. and so, he comes to understand this mind. ਮਨੁ ਮੈ ਮਤੁ ਮੈਗਲ ਮਿਕਦਾਰਾ ॥ मनु मै मतु मैगल मिकदारा ॥ Man mai maṯ maigal mikḏārā. The mind is intoxicated, like the elephant with wine. ਗੁਰੁ ਅੰਕਸੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਜੀਵਾਲਣਹਾਰਾ ॥੨॥ गुरु अंकसु मारि जीवालणहारा ॥२॥ Gur ankas mār jīvālaṇhārā. ||2|| The Guru places the harness upon it, and rejuvenates it. ||2|| ਮਨੁ ਅਸਾਧੁ ਸਾਧੈ ਜਨੁ ਕੋਈ ॥ मनु असाधु साधै जनु कोई ॥ Man asāḏẖ sāḏẖai jan ko▫ī. The mind is undisciplined; only a rare few can discipline it. ਅਚਰੁ ਚਰੈ ਤਾ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਈ ॥ अचरु चरै ता निरमलु होई ॥ Acẖar cẖarai ṯā nirmal ho▫ī. If some one controls the difficult mind, then he becomes immaculate. ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਲਇਆ ਸਵਾਰਿ ॥ गुरमुखि इहु मनु लइआ सवारि ॥ Gurmukẖ ih man la▫i▫ā savār. As Gurmukh, his mind is embellished. ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਤਜੈ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥੩॥ हउमै विचहु तजै विकार ॥३॥ Ha▫umai vicẖahu ṯajai vikār. ||3|| Egotism and corruption are eradicated from within. ||3|| ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਰਖਿਅਨੁ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥ जो धुरि रखिअनु मेलि मिलाइ ॥ Jo ḏẖur rakẖi▫an mel milā▫e. Those whom the Primal Lord keeps united in His Union, ਕਦੇ ਨ ਵਿਛੁੜਹਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥ कदे न विछुड़हि सबदि समाइ ॥ Kaḏe na vicẖẖuṛėh sabaḏ samā▫e. shall never be separated from Him; they are merged in the Word of the Shabad. ਆਪਣੀ ਕਲਾ ਆਪੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਣੈ ॥ आपणी कला आपे प्रभु जाणै ॥ Āpṇī kalā āpe parabẖ jāṇai. Only God Himself knows His own power. ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥੪॥੬॥ नानक गुरमुखि नामु पछाणै ॥४॥६॥ Nānak gurmukẖ nām pacẖẖāṇai. ||4||6|| O Nanak, the Gurmukh realizes the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||4||6|| ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭੂਲੇ ਅੰਧ ਗਾਵਾਰ ॥ मनमुख भूले अंध गावार ॥ Manmukẖ bẖūle anḏẖ gāvār. The blind, foolish, self-willed manmukhs have gone astray.
