ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਦੁਤੁਕੀ ॥ सोरठि महला १ पहिला दुतुकी ॥ Soraṯẖ mėhlā 1 pahilā ḏuṯukī. Sorat'h, First Mehl, Du-Tukas: ਤੂ ਗੁਣਦਾਤੌ ਨਿਰਮਲੋ ਭਾਈ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਾ ਮਨੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ तू गुणदातौ निरमलो भाई निरमलु ना मनु होइ ॥ Ŧū guṇḏāṯou nirmalo bẖā▫ī nirmal nā man ho▫e. You are the Giver of virtue, O Immaculate Lord, but my mind is not immaculate, O Siblings of Destiny. ਹਮ ਅਪਰਾਧੀ ਨਿਰਗੁਣੇ ਭਾਈ ਤੁਝ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਗੁਣੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥ हम अपराधी निरगुणे भाई तुझ ही ते गुणु सोइ ॥१॥ Ham aprāḏẖī nirguṇe bẖā▫ī ṯujẖ hī ṯe guṇ so▫e. ||1|| I am a worthless sinner, O Siblings of Destiny; virtue is obtained from You alone, Lord. ||1|| ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮਾ ਤੂ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੁ ॥ मेरे प्रीतमा तू करता करि वेखु ॥ Mere parīṯamā ṯū karṯā kar vekẖ. O my Beloved Creator Lord, You create, and You behold. ਹਉ ਪਾਪੀ ਪਾਖੰਡੀਆ ਭਾਈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਸੇਖੁ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ हउ पापी पाखंडीआ भाई मनि तनि नाम विसेखु ॥ रहाउ ॥ Ha▫o pāpī pākẖandī▫ā bẖā▫ī man ṯan nām visekẖ. Rahā▫o. I am a hypocritical sinner, O Siblings of Destiny. Bless my mind and body with Your Name, O Lord. ||Pause|| ਬਿਖੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਚਿਤੁ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਭਾਈ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਇ ॥ बिखु माइआ चितु मोहिआ भाई चतुराई पति खोइ ॥ Bikẖ mā▫i▫ā cẖiṯ mohi▫ā bẖā▫ī cẖaṯurā▫ī paṯ kẖo▫e. The poisonous Maya has enticed the consciousness, O Siblings of Destiny; through clever tricks, one loses his honor. ਚਿਤ ਮਹਿ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਸਚਿ ਵਸੈ ਭਾਈ ਜੇ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਸਮੋਇ ॥੨॥ चित महि ठाकुरु सचि वसै भाई जे गुर गिआनु समोइ ॥२॥ Cẖiṯ mėh ṯẖākur sacẖ vasai bẖā▫ī je gur gi▫ān samo▫e. ||2|| The True Lord and Master abides in the consciousness, O Siblings of Destiny, if the Guru's spiritual wisdom permeates it. ||2|| ਰੂੜੌ ਰੂੜੌ ਆਖੀਐ ਭਾਈ ਰੂੜੌ ਲਾਲ ਚਲੂਲੁ ॥ रूड़ौ रूड़ौ आखीऐ भाई रूड़ौ लाल चलूलु ॥ Rūṛou rūṛou ākẖī▫ai bẖā▫ī rūṛou lāl cẖalūl. Beautiful, beautiful, the Lord is called, O Siblings of Destiny; beautiful, like the deep crimson color of the poppy. ਜੇ ਮਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਬੈਰਾਗੀਐ ਭਾਈ ਦਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਸਾਚੁ ਅਭੂਲੁ ॥੩॥ जे मनु हरि सिउ बैरागीऐ भाई दरि घरि साचु अभूलु ॥३॥ Je man har si▫o bairāgī▫ai bẖā▫ī ḏar gẖar sācẖ abẖūl. ||3|| If man loves the Lord with detachment, O Siblings of Destiny, he is judged to be true and infallible in the Lord's court and home. ||3|| ਪਾਤਾਲੀ ਆਕਾਸਿ ਤੂ ਭਾਈ ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਤੂ ਗੁਣ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥ पाताली आकासि तू भाई घरि घरि तू गुण गिआनु ॥ Pāṯālī ākās ṯū bẖā▫ī gẖar gẖar ṯū guṇ gi▫ān. You are pervading the realms of the underworld and the heavenly skies; Your wisdom and glories are in each and every heart. ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਭਾਈ ਚੂਕਾ ਮਨਹੁ ਗੁਮਾਨੁ ॥੪॥ गुर मिलिऐ सुखु पाइआ भाई चूका मनहु गुमानु ॥४॥ Gur mili▫ai sukẖ pā▫i▫ā bẖā▫ī cẖūkā manhu gumān. ||4|| Meeting with the Guru, one finds peace, O Siblings of Destiny, and pride is dispelled from the mind. ||4|| ਜਲਿ ਮਲਿ ਕਾਇਆ ਮਾਜੀਐ ਭਾਈ ਭੀ ਮੈਲਾ ਤਨੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ जलि मलि काइआ माजीऐ भाई भी मैला तनु होइ ॥ Jal mal kā▫i▫ā mājī▫ai bẖā▫ī bẖī mailā ṯan ho▫e. Scrubbing with water, the body can be cleaned, O Siblings of Destiny, but the body becomes dirty again. ਗਿਆਨਿ ਮਹਾ ਰਸਿ ਨਾਈਐ ਭਾਈ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੫॥ गिआनि महा रसि नाईऐ भाई मनु तनु निरमलु होइ ॥५॥ Gi▫ān mahā ras nā▫ī▫ai bẖā▫ī man ṯan nirmal ho▫e. ||5|| Bathing in the supreme essence of spiritual wisdom, O Siblings of Destiny, the mind and body become pure. ||5|| ਦੇਵੀ ਦੇਵਾ ਪੂਜੀਐ ਭਾਈ ਕਿਆ ਮਾਗਉ ਕਿਆ ਦੇਹਿ ॥ देवी देवा पूजीऐ भाई किआ मागउ किआ देहि ॥ Ḏevī ḏevā pūjī▫ai bẖā▫ī ki▫ā māga▫o ki▫ā ḏėh. Why worship gods and goddesses, O Siblings of Destiny? What can we ask of them? What can they give us? ਪਾਹਣੁ ਨੀਰਿ ਪਖਾਲੀਐ ਭਾਈ ਜਲ ਮਹਿ ਬੂਡਹਿ ਤੇਹਿ ॥੬॥ पाहणु नीरि पखालीऐ भाई जल महि बूडहि तेहि ॥६॥ Pāhaṇ nīr pakẖālī▫ai bẖā▫ī jal mėh būḏẖėh ṯehi. ||6|| The stone gods are washed with water, O Siblings of Destiny, but they just sink in the water. ||6|| ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਲਖੁ ਨ ਲਖੀਐ ਭਾਈ ਜਗੁ ਬੂਡੈ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਇ ॥ गुर बिनु अलखु न लखीऐ भाई जगु बूडै पति खोइ ॥ Gur bin alakẖ na lakẖī▫ai bẖā▫ī jag būdai paṯ kẖo▫e. Without the Guru, the unseen Lord cannot be seen, O Siblings of Destiny; the world is drowning, having lost its honor. ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਹਾਥਿ ਵਡਾਈਆ ਭਾਈ ਜੈ ਭਾਵੈ ਤੈ ਦੇਇ ॥੭॥ मेरे ठाकुर हाथि वडाईआ भाई जै भावै तै देइ ॥७॥ Mere ṯẖākur hāth vadā▫ī▫ā bẖā▫ī jai bẖāvai ṯai ḏe▫e. ||7|| Greatness is in the hands of my Lord and Master, O Siblings of Destiny; as He is pleased, He gives. ||7|| ਬਈਅਰਿ ਬੋਲੈ ਮੀਠੁਲੀ ਭਾਈ ਸਾਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਪਿਰ ਭਾਇ ॥ बईअरि बोलै मीठुली भाई साचु कहै पिर भाइ ॥ Ba▫ī▫ar bolai mīṯẖulī bẖā▫ī sācẖ kahai pir bẖā▫e. That soul-bride, who talks sweetly and speaks the Truth, O Siblings of Destiny, becomes pleasing to her Husband Lord. ਬਿਰਹੈ ਬੇਧੀ ਸਚਿ ਵਸੀ ਭਾਈ ਅਧਿਕ ਰਹੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਇ ॥੮॥ बिरहै बेधी सचि वसी भाई अधिक रही हरि नाइ ॥८॥ Birhai beḏẖī sacẖ vasī bẖā▫ī aḏẖik rahī har nā▫e. ||8|| Pierced by His Love, she abides in Truth, O Siblings of Destiny, deeply imbued with the Lord's Name. ||8|| ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਆਖੈ ਆਪਣਾ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਬੁਝੈ ਸੁਜਾਨੁ ॥ सभु को आखै आपणा भाई गुर ते बुझै सुजानु ॥ Sabẖ ko ākẖai āpṇā bẖā▫ī gur ṯe bujẖai sujān. Everyone calls God his own, O Siblings of Destiny, but the all-knowing Lord is known only through the Guru. ਜੋ ਬੀਧੇ ਸੇ ਊਬਰੇ ਭਾਈ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਚਾ ਨੀਸਾਨੁ ॥੯॥ जो बीधे से ऊबरे भाई सबदु सचा नीसानु ॥९॥ Jo bīḏẖe se ūbre bẖā▫ī sabaḏ sacẖā nīsān. ||9|| Those who are pierced by His Love are saved, O Siblings of Destiny; they bear the Insignia of the True Word of the Shabad. ||9|| ਈਧਨੁ ਅਧਿਕ ਸਕੇਲੀਐ ਭਾਈ ਪਾਵਕੁ ਰੰਚਕ ਪਾਇ ॥ ईधनु अधिक सकेलीऐ भाई पावकु रंचक पाइ ॥ Īḏẖan aḏẖik sakelī▫ai bẖā▫ī pāvak rancẖak pā▫e. A large pile of firewood, O Siblings of Destiny, will burn if a small fire is applied. ਖਿਨੁ ਪਲੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਵਸੈ ਭਾਈ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਿਲਣੁ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥੧੦॥੪॥ खिनु पलु नामु रिदै वसै भाई नानक मिलणु सुभाइ ॥१०॥४॥ Kẖin pal nām riḏai vasai bẖā▫ī Nānak milaṇ subẖā▫e. ||10||4|| In the same way, if the Naam, the Name of the Lord, dwells in the heart for a moment, even for an instant, O Siblings of Destiny, then one meets the Lord with ease, O Nanak. ||10||4||
