ਰਤਨੁ ਛਾਡਿ ਕਉਡੀ ਸੰਗਿ ਲਾਗੇ ਜਾ ਤੇ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ॥ रतनु छाडि कउडी संगि लागे जा ते कछू न पाईऐ ॥ Raṯan cẖẖād ka▫udī sang lāge jā ṯe kacẖẖū na pā▫ī▫ai. Forsaking the jewel, he is attached to the shell; nothing will come of it. ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ सोरठि महला ५ ॥ Soraṯẖ mėhlā 5. Sorat'h, Fifth Mehl: ਸਿਮਰਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਾਨੀ ॥ सिमरहु हरि हरि नामु परानी ॥ Simrahu har har nām parānī. Meditate in remembrance on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, O mortal. ਪੂਰਨ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥੧॥ पूरन पारब्रहम परमेसुर मेरे मन सदा धिआईऐ ॥१॥ Pūran pārbarahm parmesur mere man saḏā ḏẖi▫ā▫ī▫ai. ||1|| O my mind, meditate forever on the Perfect, Supreme Lord God, the Transcendent Lord. ||1|| ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਅਰੁ ਸੁਪਨ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਕਛੁ ਨ ਵਡਾਈ ॥ म्रिग त्रिसना अरु सुपन मनोरथ ता की कछु न वडाई ॥ Marig ṯarisnā ar supan manorath ṯā kī kacẖẖ na vadā▫ī. Illusions and dream-objects possess nothing of greatness. ਬਿਨਸੈ ਕਾਚੀ ਦੇਹ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ बिनसै काची देह अगिआनी ॥ रहाउ ॥ Binsai kācẖī ḏeh agi▫ānī. Rahā▫o. Your frail body shall perish, you ignorant fool. ||Pause|| ਰਾਮ ਭਜਨ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਾਮਿ ਨ ਆਵਸਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਕਾਹੂ ਜਾਈ ॥੨॥ राम भजन बिनु कामि न आवसि संगि न काहू जाई ॥२॥ Rām bẖajan bin kām na āvas sang na kāhū jā▫ī. ||2|| Without meditating on the Lord, nothing succeeds, and nothing will go along with you. ||2|| ਹਉ ਹਉ ਕਰਤ ਬਿਹਾਇ ਅਵਰਦਾ ਜੀਅ ਕੋ ਕਾਮੁ ਨ ਕੀਨਾ ॥ हउ हउ करत बिहाइ अवरदा जीअ को कामु न कीना ॥ Ha▫o ha▫o karaṯ bihā▫e avraḏā jī▫a ko kām na kīnā. Acting in egotism and pride, his life passes away, and he does nothing for his soul. ਧਾਵਤ ਧਾਵਤ ਨਹ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਸਿਆ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਹੀ ਚੀਨਾ ॥੩॥ धावत धावत नह त्रिपतासिआ राम नामु नही चीना ॥३॥ Ḏẖāvaṯ ḏẖāvaṯ nah ṯaripṯāsi▫ā rām nām nahī cẖīnā. ||3|| Wandering and wandering all around, he is never satisfied; he does not remember the Name of the Lord. ||3|| ਸਾਦ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਬਿਖੈ ਰਸ ਮਾਤੋ ਅਸੰਖ ਖਤੇ ਕਰਿ ਫੇਰੇ ॥ साद बिकार बिखै रस मातो असंख खते करि फेरे ॥ Sāḏ bikār bikẖai ras māṯo asaʼnkẖ kẖaṯe kar fere. Intoxicated with the taste of corruption, cruel pleasures and countless sins, he is consigned to the cycle of reincarnation. ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪਾਹਿ ਬਿਨੰਤੀ ਕਾਟਹੁ ਅਵਗੁਣ ਮੇਰੇ ॥੪॥੧੧॥੨੨॥ नानक की प्रभ पाहि बिनंती काटहु अवगुण मेरे ॥४॥११॥२२॥ Nānak kī parabẖ pāhi binanṯī kātahu avguṇ mere. ||4||11||22|| Nanak offers his prayer to God, to eradicate his demerits. ||4||11||22|| ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹੁ ਪੂਰਨ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਬਿਖੁ ਜਾਰੇ ॥ गुण गावहु पूरन अबिनासी काम क्रोध बिखु जारे ॥ Guṇ gāvhu pūran abẖināsī kām kroḏẖ bikẖ jāre. Sing the Glorious Praises of the Perfect, Imperishable Lord, and the poison of sexual desire and anger shall be burnt away. ਮਹਾ ਬਿਖਮੁ ਅਗਨਿ ਕੋ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਉਧਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ महा बिखमु अगनि को सागरु साधू संगि उधारे ॥१॥ Mahā bikẖam agan ko sāgar sāḏẖū sang uḏẖāre. ||1|| You shall cross over the awesome, arduous ocean of fire, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||1||
