ਸਿਰੀਰਾਗੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥ सिरीरागु महला १ ॥ Sireeraag mėhlaa 1. Siree Raag, First Mehl: ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਭੁਲੈ ਭੁਲਾਈਐ ਭੂਲੀ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਕਾਇ ॥ मनमुखि भुलै भुलाईऐ भूली ठउर न काइ ॥ Manmukʰ bʰulæ bʰulaa▫ee▫æ bʰoolee tʰa▫ur na kaa▫é. The self-willed Manmukhs wander around, deluded and deceived. They find no place of rest. ਗਿਆਨ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਖੋਇਆ ਠਗਿਆ ਮੁਠਾ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ गिआन पदारथु खोइआ ठगिआ मुठा जाइ ॥१॥ Gi▫aan paḋaaraṫʰ kʰo▫i▫aa tʰagi▫aa mutʰaa jaa▫é. ||1|| Having lost the treasure of spiritual wisdom, they depart, defrauded and plundered. ||1|| ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਕੋ ਨ ਦਿਖਾਵਈ ਅੰਧੀ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥ गुर बिनु को न दिखावई अंधी आवै जाइ ॥ Gur bin ko na ḋikʰaava▫ee anḋʰee aavæ jaa▫é. Without the Guru, no one is shown the Way. Like the blind, they continue coming and going. ਬਾਬਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇ ॥ बाबा माइआ भरमि भुलाइ ॥ Baabaa maa▫i▫aa bʰaram bʰulaa▫é. O Baba, Maya deceives with its illusion. ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲੀ ਡੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਨਾ ਪਿਰ ਅੰਕਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ भरमि भुली डोहागणी ना पिर अंकि समाइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ Bʰaram bʰulee dohaagaṇee naa pir ank samaa▫é. ||1|| rahaa▫o. Deceived by doubt, the discarded bride is not received into the Lap of her Beloved. ||1||Pause|| ਭੂਲੀ ਫਿਰੈ ਦਿਸੰਤਰੀ ਭੂਲੀ ਗ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਤਜਿ ਜਾਇ ॥ भूली फिरै दिसंतरी भूली ग्रिहु तजि जाइ ॥ Bʰoolee firæ ḋisanṫree bʰoolee garihu ṫaj jaa▫é. The deceived bride wanders around in foreign lands; she leaves, and abandons her own home. ਭੂਲੀ ਡੂੰਗਰਿ ਥਲਿ ਚੜੈ ਭਰਮੈ ਮਨੁ ਡੋਲਾਇ ॥ भूली डूंगरि थलि चड़ै भरमै मनु डोलाइ ॥ Bʰoolee doongar ṫʰal chaṛæ bʰarmæ man dolaa▫é. Deceived, she climbs the plateaus and mountains; her mind wavers in doubt. ਧੁਰਹੁ ਵਿਛੁੰਨੀ ਕਿਉ ਮਿਲੈ ਗਰਬਿ ਮੁਠੀ ਬਿਲਲਾਇ ॥੨॥ धुरहु विछुंनी किउ मिलै गरबि मुठी बिललाइ ॥२॥ Ḋʰarahu vichʰunnee ki▫o milæ garab mutʰee billaa▫é. ||2|| Separated from the Primal Being, how can she meet with Him again? Plundered by pride, she cries out and bewails. ||2|| ਵਿਛੁੜਿਆ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲਸੀ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਨਾਮ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥ विछुड़िआ गुरु मेलसी हरि रसि नाम पिआरि ॥ vichʰuṛi▫aa gur mélsee har ras naam pi▫aar. The Guru unites the separated ones with the Lord again, through the love of the Delicious Name of the Lord. ਸਾਚਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਘਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਨਾਮ ਅਧਾਰਿ ॥ साचि सहजि सोभा घणी हरि गुण नाम अधारि ॥ Saach sahj sobʰaa gʰaṇee har guṇ naam aḋʰaar. Through truth and intuitive poise, great honor is obtained, with the Support of the Naam and the Glory of the Lord. ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਖੁ ਤੂੰ ਮੈ ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਵਨੁ ਭਤਾਰੁ ॥੩॥ जिउ भावै तिउ रखु तूं मै तुझ बिनु कवनु भतारु ॥३॥ Ji▫o bʰaavæ ṫi▫o rakʰ ṫooⁿ mæ ṫujʰ bin kavan bʰaṫaar. ||3|| As it pleases You, Lord, please save and protect me. Without You, O my Husband Lord, who else is there for me? ||3|| ਅਖਰ ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਭੁਲੀਐ ਭੇਖੀ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥ अखर पड़ि पड़ि भुलीऐ भेखी बहुतु अभिमानु ॥ Akʰar paṛ paṛ bʰulee▫æ bʰékʰee bahuṫ abʰimaan. Reading their books over and over again, people continue making mistakes; they are so proud of their religious robes. ਤੀਰਥ ਨਾਤਾ ਕਿਆ ਕਰੇ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਗੁਮਾਨੁ ॥ तीरथ नाता किआ करे मन महि मैलु गुमानु ॥ Ṫiraṫʰ naaṫaa ki▫aa karé man mėh mæl gumaan. But what is the use of bathing at sacred shrines of pilgrimage, when the filth of stubborn pride is within the mind? ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਿਨਿ ਸਮਝਾਈਐ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਜਾ ਸੁਲਤਾਨੁ ॥੪॥ गुर बिनु किनि समझाईऐ मनु राजा सुलतानु ॥४॥ Gur bin kin samjaa▫ee▫æ man raajaa sulṫaan. ||4|| Other than the Guru, who can explain that within the mind is the Lord, the King, the Emperor? ||4|| ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤਤੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥ प्रेम पदारथु पाईऐ गुरमुखि ततु वीचारु ॥ Parém paḋaaraṫʰ paa▫ee▫æ gurmukʰ ṫaṫ veechaar. The Treasure of the Lord’s Love is obtained by the Gurmukh, who contemplates the essence of reality. ਸਾ ਧਨ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ॥ सा धन आपु गवाइआ गुर कै सबदि सीगारु ॥ Saa ḋʰan aap gavaa▫i▫aa gur kæ sabaḋ seegaar. The bride eradicates her selfishness, and adorns herself with the Word of the Guru’s Shabad. ਘਰ ਹੀ ਸੋ ਪਿਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਹੇਤਿ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥੫॥ घर ही सो पिरु पाइआ गुर कै हेति अपारु ॥५॥ Gʰar hee so pir paa▫i▫aa gur kæ héṫ apaar. ||5|| Within her own home, she finds her Husband, through infinite love for the Guru. ||5|| ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ गुर की सेवा चाकरी मनु निरमलु सुखु होइ ॥ Gur kee sévaa chaakree man nirmal sukʰ ho▫é. Applying oneself to the service of the Guru, the mind is purified, and peace is obtained. ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਖੋਇ ॥ गुर का सबदु मनि वसिआ हउमै विचहु खोइ ॥ Gur kaa sabaḋ man vasi▫aa ha▫umæ vichahu kʰo▫é. The Word of the Guru’s Shabad abides within the mind, and egotism is eliminated from within. ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਲਾਭੁ ਸਦਾ ਮਨਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੬॥ नामु पदारथु पाइआ लाभु सदा मनि होइ ॥६॥ Naam paḋaaraṫʰ paa▫i▫aa laabʰ saḋaa man ho▫é. ||6|| The Treasure of the Naam is acquired, and the mind reaps the lasting profit. ||6|| ਕਰਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾ ਪਾਈਐ ਆਪਿ ਨ ਲਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥ करमि मिलै ता पाईऐ आपि न लइआ जाइ ॥ Karam milæ ṫaa paa▫ee▫æ aap na la▫i▫aa jaa▫é. If He grants His Grace, then we obtain it. We cannot find it by our own efforts. ਭੁਲਣ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਅਭੁਲੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥ भुलण अंदरि सभु को अभुलु गुरू करतारु ॥ Bʰulaṇ anḋar sabʰ ko abʰul guroo karṫaar. Everyone makes mistakes; only the Guru and the Creator are infallible. ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਚਰਣੀ ਲਗਿ ਰਹੁ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥ गुर की चरणी लगि रहु विचहु आपु गवाइ ॥ Gur kee charṇee lag rahu vichahu aap gavaa▫é. Remain attached to the Feet of the Guru, and eradicate selfishness from within. ਸਚੇ ਸੇਤੀ ਰਤਿਆ ਸਚੋ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ ॥੭॥ सचे सेती रतिआ सचो पलै पाइ ॥७॥ Saché séṫee raṫi▫aa sacho palæ paa▫é. ||7|| Attuned to Truth, you shall obtain the True One. ||7|| ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਨੁ ਸਮਝਾਇਆ ਲਾਗਾ ਤਿਸੈ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥ गुरमति मनु समझाइआ लागा तिसै पिआरु ॥ Gurmaṫ man samjʰaa▫i▫aa laagaa ṫisæ pi▫aar. One who instructs his mind with the Guru’s Teachings comes to embrace love for the Lord. ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਮੇਲੇ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥੮॥੧੨॥ नानक साचु न वीसरै मेले सबदु अपारु ॥८॥१२॥ Naanak saach na veesræ mélé sabaḋ apaar. ||8||12|| O Nanak! Do not forget the Truth; you shall receive the Infinite Word of the Shabad. ||8||12||
