ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥ ੴ सतिगुर प्रसादि ॥ Ik▫oaʼnkār saṯgur parsāḏ. One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru: ਵਡਹੰਸੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ਛੰਤ वडहंसु महला १ छंत vad▫hans mėhlā 1 cẖẖanṯ Wadahans, First Mehl, Chhant: ਨਾਤਾ ਸੋ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਈਐ ॥ नाता सो परवाणु सचु कमाईऐ ॥ Nāṯā so parvāṇ sacẖ kamā▫ī▫ai. One's cleansing bath is only approved, if he practices Truth. ਕਾਇਆ ਕੂੜਿ ਵਿਗਾੜਿ ਕਾਹੇ ਨਾਈਐ ॥ काइआ कूड़ि विगाड़ि काहे नाईऐ ॥ Kā▫i▫ā kūṛ vigāṛ kāhe nā▫ī▫ai. Why bother to wash the body, polluted by falsehood? ਜਬ ਸਾਚ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਹੋਇ ਸਾਚਾ ਤਾਮਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਪਾਈਐ ॥ जब साच अंदरि होइ साचा तामि साचा पाईऐ ॥ Jab sācẖ anḏar ho▫e sācẖā ṯām sācẖā pā▫ī▫ai. When there is Truth within the heart, then one becomes True, and obtains the True Lord. ਲਿਖੇ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਬੋਲਿ ਬੋਲਿ ਗਵਾਈਐ ॥ लिखे बाझहु सुरति नाही बोलि बोलि गवाईऐ ॥ Likẖe bājẖahu suraṯ nāhī bol bol gavā▫ī▫ai. Without pre-ordained destiny, understanding is not attained; talking and babbling, one wastes his life away. ਜਿਥੈ ਜਾਇ ਬਹੀਐ ਭਲਾ ਕਹੀਐ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਲਿਖਾਈਐ ॥ जिथै जाइ बहीऐ भला कहीऐ सुरति सबदु लिखाईऐ ॥ Jithai jā▫e bahī▫ai bẖalā kahī▫ai suraṯ sabaḏ likẖā▫ī▫ai. Wherever you go and sit, speak well, and write the Word of the Shabad in your consciousness. ਕਾਇਆ ਕੂੜਿ ਵਿਗਾੜਿ ਕਾਹੇ ਨਾਈਐ ॥੧॥ काइआ कूड़ि विगाड़ि काहे नाईऐ ॥१॥ Kā▫i▫ā kūṛ vigāṛ kāhe nā▫ī▫ai. ||1|| Why bother to wash the body which is polluted by falsehood? ||1|| ਤਾ ਮੈ ਕਹਿਆ ਕਹਣੁ ਜਾ ਤੁਝੈ ਕਹਾਇਆ ॥ ता मै कहिआ कहणु जा तुझै कहाइआ ॥ Ŧā mai kahi▫ā kahaṇ jā ṯujẖai kahā▫i▫ā. When I have spoken, I spoke as You made me speak. ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇਆ ॥ अम्रितु हरि का नामु मेरै मनि भाइआ ॥ Amriṯ har kā nām merai man bẖā▫i▫ā. The Ambrosial Name of the Lord is pleasing to my mind. ਨਾਮੁ ਮੀਠਾ ਮਨਹਿ ਲਾਗਾ ਦੂਖਿ ਡੇਰਾ ਢਾਹਿਆ ॥ नामु मीठा मनहि लागा दूखि डेरा ढाहिआ ॥ Nām mīṯẖā manėh lāgā ḏūkẖ derā dẖāhi▫ā. The Naam, the Name of the Lord, seems so sweet to my mind; it has destroyed the dwelling of pain. ਸੂਖੁ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਆਇ ਵਸਿਆ ਜਾਮਿ ਤੈ ਫੁਰਮਾਇਆ ॥ सूखु मन महि आइ वसिआ जामि तै फुरमाइआ ॥ Sūkẖ man mėh ā▫e vasi▫ā jām ṯai furmā▫i▫ā. Peace came to dwell in my mind, when You gave the Order. ਨਦਰਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਨਿ ਆਪੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥ नदरि तुधु अरदासि मेरी जिंनि आपु उपाइआ ॥ Naḏar ṯuḏẖ arḏās merī jinn āp upā▫i▫ā. It is Yours to bestow Your Grace, and it is mine to speak this prayer; You created Yourself. ਵਾਰੀ ਖਸਮੁ ਕਢਾਏ ਕਿਰਤੁ ਕਮਾਵਣਾ ॥ वारी खसमु कढाए किरतु कमावणा ॥ vārī kẖasam kadẖā▫e kiraṯ kamāvaṇā. The Lord and Master gives them their turn, according to the deeds they have done. ਮੰਦਾ ਕਿਸੈ ਨ ਆਖਿ ਝਗੜਾ ਪਾਵਣਾ ॥ मंदा किसै न आखि झगड़ा पावणा ॥ Manḏā kisai na ākẖ jẖagṛā pāvṇā. Do not speak ill of others, or get involved in arguments. ਤਾ ਮੈ ਕਹਿਆ ਕਹਣੁ ਜਾ ਤੁਝੈ ਕਹਾਇਆ ॥੨॥ ता मै कहिआ कहणु जा तुझै कहाइआ ॥२॥ Ŧā mai kahi▫ā kahaṇ jā ṯujẖai kahā▫i▫ā. ||2|| When I have spoken, I spoke as You made me speak. ||2|| ਨਹ ਪਾਇ ਝਗੜਾ ਸੁਆਮਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਆਪਿ ਆਪੁ ਵਞਾਵਣਾ ॥ नह पाइ झगड़ा सुआमि सेती आपि आपु वञावणा ॥ Nah pā▫e jẖagṛā su▫ām seṯī āp āp vañāvaṇā. Do not get into arguments with the Lord, or you shall ruin yourself. ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਲਿ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਸਰੀਕੀ ਜਾਇ ਕਿਆ ਰੂਆਵਣਾ ॥ जिसु नालि संगति करि सरीकी जाइ किआ रूआवणा ॥ Jis nāl sangaṯ kar sarīkī jā▫e ki▫ā rū▫āvaṇā. If you challenge the One, with whom you must abide, you will cry in the end. ਜੋ ਦੇਇ ਸਹਣਾ ਮਨਹਿ ਕਹਣਾ ਆਖਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਵਾਵਣਾ ॥ जो देइ सहणा मनहि कहणा आखि नाही वावणा ॥ Jo ḏe▫e sahṇā manėh kahṇā ākẖ nāhī vāvṇā. Be satisfied with what God gives you; tell your mind not to complain uselessly. ਵਾਰੀ ਖਸਮੁ ਕਢਾਏ ਕਿਰਤੁ ਕਮਾਵਣਾ ॥੩॥ वारी खसमु कढाए किरतु कमावणा ॥३॥ vārī kẖasam kadẖā▫e kiraṯ kamāvaṇā. ||3|| The Lord and Master gives them their turn, according to the deeds they have done. ||3|| ਸਭ ਉਪਾਈਅਨੁ ਆਪਿ ਆਪੇ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ॥ सभ उपाईअनु आपि आपे नदरि करे ॥ Sabẖ upā▫ī▫an āp āpe naḏar kare. He Himself created all, and He blesses then with His Glance of Grace. ਕਉੜਾ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮਾਗੈ ਮੀਠਾ ਸਭ ਮਾਗੈ ॥ कउड़ा कोइ न मागै मीठा सभ मागै ॥ Ka▫uṛā ko▫e na māgai mīṯẖā sabẖ māgai. No one asks for that which is bitter; everyone asks for sweets. ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ਮੀਠਾ ਮੰਗਿ ਦੇਖੈ ਖਸਮ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਕਰੇ ॥ सभु कोइ मीठा मंगि देखै खसम भावै सो करे ॥ Sabẖ ko▫e mīṯẖā mang ḏekẖai kẖasam bẖāvai so kare. Let everyone ask for sweets, and behold, it is as the Lord wills. ਕਿਛੁ ਪੁੰਨ ਦਾਨ ਅਨੇਕ ਕਰਣੀ ਨਾਮ ਤੁਲਿ ਨ ਸਮਸਰੇ ॥ किछु पुंन दान अनेक करणी नाम तुलि न समसरे ॥ Kicẖẖ punn ḏān anek karṇī nām ṯul na samasre. Giving donations to charity, and performing various religious rituals are not equal to the contemplation of the Naam. ਸਭ ਉਪਾਈਅਨੁ ਆਪਿ ਆਪੇ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ॥੪॥੧॥ सभ उपाईअनु आपि आपे नदरि करे ॥४॥१॥ Sabẖ upā▫ī▫an āp āpe naḏar kare. ||4||1|| He Himself created all, and He blesses them with His Glance of Grace. ||4||1|| ਨਾਨਕਾ ਜਿਨ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਆ ਧੁਰਿ ਕਦੇ ॥ नानका जिन नामु मिलिआ करमु होआ धुरि कदे ॥ Nānkā jin nām mili▫ā karam ho▫ā ḏẖur kaḏe. O Nanak, those who are blessed with the Naam have had such good karma pre-ordained.
