ਆਪੇ ਗੁਣ ਆਪੇ ਕਥੈ ਆਪੇ ਸੁਣਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥ आपे गुण आपे कथै आपे सुणि वीचारु ॥ Aapé guṇ aapé kaṫʰæ aapé suṇ veechaar. O Lord, You are Your Own Glorious Praise. You Yourself speak it; You Yourself hear it and contemplate it. ਸਿਰੀਰਾਗੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥ सिरीरागु महला १ ॥ Sireeraag mėhlaa 1. Siree Raag, First Mehl: ਸਾਚਉ ਮਾਨੁ ਮਹਤੁ ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਵਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ साचउ मानु महतु तूं आपे देवणहारु ॥१॥ Saacha▫o maan mahaṫ ṫooⁿ aapé ḋévaṇhaar. ||1|| O True Lord, You are Honor and Glory; You Yourself are the Giver. ||1|| ਆਪੇ ਰਤਨੁ ਪਰਖਿ ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਮੋਲੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥ आपे रतनु परखि तूं आपे मोलु अपारु ॥ Aapé raṫan parakʰ ṫooⁿ aapé mol apaar. You Yourself are the Jewel, and You are the Appraiser. You Yourself are of Infinite Value. ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਤੂੰ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥ हरि जीउ तूं करता करतारु ॥ Har jee▫o ṫooⁿ karṫaa karṫaar. O Dear Lord, You are the Creator and the Cause. ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਾਖੁ ਤੂੰ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਆਚਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ जिउ भावै तिउ राखु तूं हरि नामु मिलै आचारु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ Ji▫o bʰaavæ ṫi▫o raakʰ ṫooⁿ har naam milæ aachaar. ||1|| rahaa▫o. If it is Your Will, please save and protect me; please bless me with the lifestyle of the Lord’s Name. ||1||Pause|| ਆਪੇ ਹੀਰਾ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ਆਪੇ ਰੰਗੁ ਮਜੀਠ ॥ आपे हीरा निरमला आपे रंगु मजीठ ॥ Aapé heeraa nirmalaa aapé rang majeetʰ. You Yourself are the flawless diamond; You Yourself are the deep crimson color. ਆਪੇ ਮੋਤੀ ਊਜਲੋ ਆਪੇ ਭਗਤ ਬਸੀਠੁ ॥ आपे मोती ऊजलो आपे भगत बसीठु ॥ Aapé moṫee oojlo aapé bʰagaṫ baseetʰ. You Yourself are the perfect pearl; You Yourself are the devotee and the priest. ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਲਾਹਣਾ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਡੀਠੁ ਅਡੀਠੁ ॥੨॥ गुर कै सबदि सलाहणा घटि घटि डीठु अडीठु ॥२॥ Gur kæ sabaḋ salaahṇaa gʰat gʰat deetʰ adeetʰ. ||2|| Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, You are praised. In each and every heart, the Unseen is seen. ||2|| ਆਪੇ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਬੋਹਿਥਾ ਆਪੇ ਪਾਰੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥ आपे सागरु बोहिथा आपे पारु अपारु ॥ Aapé saagar bohiṫʰaa aapé paar apaar. You Yourself are the ocean and the boat. You Yourself are this shore, and the one beyond. ਸਾਚੀ ਵਾਟ ਸੁਜਾਣੁ ਤੂੰ ਸਬਦਿ ਲਘਾਵਣਹਾਰੁ ॥ साची वाट सुजाणु तूं सबदि लघावणहारु ॥ Saachee vaat sujaaṇ ṫooⁿ sabaḋ lagʰaavaṇhaar. O All-knowing Lord, You are the True Way. The Shabad is the Navigator to ferry us across. ਨਿਡਰਿਆ ਡਰੁ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਬਾਝੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ॥੩॥ निडरिआ डरु जाणीऐ बाझु गुरू गुबारु ॥३॥ Nidri▫aa dar jaaṇee▫æ baajʰ guroo gubaar. ||3|| One who does not fear God shall live in fear; without the Guru, there is only pitch darkness. ||3|| ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਦੇਖੀਐ ਹੋਰੁ ਕੇਤੀ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥ असथिरु करता देखीऐ होरु केती आवै जाइ ॥ Asṫʰir karṫaa ḋékʰee▫æ hor kéṫee aavæ jaa▫é. The Creator alone is seen to be Eternal; all others come and go. ਆਪੇ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਏਕੁ ਤੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਬੰਧੀ ਧੰਧੈ ਪਾਇ ॥ आपे निरमलु एकु तूं होर बंधी धंधै पाइ ॥ Aapé nirmal ék ṫooⁿ hor banḋʰee ḋʰanḋʰæ paa▫é. Only You, Lord, are Immaculate and Pure. All others are bound up in worldly pursuits. ਗੁਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਸੇ ਉਬਰੇ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਿਉ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੪॥ गुरि राखे से उबरे साचे सिउ लिव लाइ ॥४॥ Gur raakʰé sé ubré saaché si▫o liv laa▫é. ||4|| Those who are protected by the Guru are saved. They are lovingly attuned to the True Lord. ||4|| ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਣੀਐ ਸਾਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਗੁਰ ਵਾਕਿ ॥ हरि जीउ सबदि पछाणीऐ साचि रते गुर वाकि ॥ Har jee▫o sabaḋ pachʰaaṇee▫æ saach raṫé gur vaak. Through the Shabad, they recognize the Dear Lord; through the Guru’s Word, they are attuned to Truth. ਤਿਤੁ ਤਨਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਲਗਈ ਸਚ ਘਰਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਓਤਾਕੁ ॥ तितु तनि मैलु न लगई सच घरि जिसु ओताकु ॥ Ṫiṫ ṫan mæl na lag▫ee sach gʰar jis oṫaak. Filth does not stick to the body of one who has secured a dwelling in his True Home. ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕਿਆ ਸਾਕੁ ॥੫॥ नदरि करे सचु पाईऐ बिनु नावै किआ साकु ॥५॥ Naḋar karé sach paa▫ee▫æ bin naavæ ki▫aa saak. ||5|| When the Lord bestows His Glance of Grace, we obtain the True Name. Without the Name, who are our relatives? ||5|| ਜਿਨੀ ਸਚੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਸੇ ਸੁਖੀਏ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰਿ ॥ जिनी सचु पछाणिआ से सुखीए जुग चारि ॥ Jinee sach pachʰaaṇi▫aa sé sukʰee▫é jug chaar. Those who have realized the Truth are at peace throughout the four ages. ਹਉਮੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਮਾਰਿ ਕੈ ਸਚੁ ਰਖਿਆ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥ हउमै त्रिसना मारि कै सचु रखिआ उर धारि ॥ Ha▫umæ ṫarisnaa maar kæ sach rakʰi▫aa ur ḋʰaar. Subduing their egotism and desires, they keep the True Name enshrined in their hearts. ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਲਾਹਾ ਏਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥੬॥ जग महि लाहा एकु नामु पाईऐ गुर वीचारि ॥६॥ Jag mėh laahaa ék naam paa▫ee▫æ gur veechaar. ||6|| In this world, the only real profit is the Name of the One Lord; it is earned by contemplating the Guru. ||6|| ਸਾਚਉ ਵਖਰੁ ਲਾਦੀਐ ਲਾਭੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਚੁ ਰਾਸਿ ॥ साचउ वखरु लादीऐ लाभु सदा सचु रासि ॥ Saacha▫o vakʰar laaḋee▫æ laabʰ saḋaa sach raas. Loading the Merchandise of the True Name, you shall gather in your profits forever with the Capital of Truth. ਸਾਚੀ ਦਰਗਹ ਬੈਸਈ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਚੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥ साची दरगह बैसई भगति सची अरदासि ॥ Saachee ḋargėh bæs▫ee bʰagaṫ sachee arḋaas. In the Court of the True One, you shall sit in truthful devotion and prayer. ਪਤਿ ਸਿਉ ਲੇਖਾ ਨਿਬੜੈ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਿ ॥੭॥ पति सिउ लेखा निबड़ै राम नामु परगासि ॥७॥ Paṫ si▫o lékʰaa nibṛæ raam naam pargaas. ||7|| Your account shall be settled with honor, in the Radiant Light of the Name of the Lord. ||7|| ਊਚਾ ਊਚਉ ਆਖੀਐ ਕਹਉ ਨ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥ ऊचा ऊचउ आखीऐ कहउ न देखिआ जाइ ॥ Oochaa oocha▫o aakʰee▫æ kaha▫o na ḋékʰi▫aa jaa▫é. The Lord is said to be the Highest of the High; no one can perceive Him. ਜਹ ਦੇਖਾ ਤਹ ਏਕੁ ਤੂੰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਦਿਖਾਇ ॥ जह देखा तह एकु तूं सतिगुरि दीआ दिखाइ ॥ Jah ḋékʰaa ṫah ék ṫooⁿ saṫgur ḋee▫aa ḋikʰaa▫é. Wherever I look, I see only You. The True Guru has inspired me to see You. ਜੋਤਿ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥੮॥੩॥ जोति निरंतरि जाणीऐ नानक सहजि सुभाइ ॥८॥३॥ Joṫ niranṫar jaaṇee▫æ Naanak sahj subʰaa▫é. ||8||3|| The Divine Light within is revealed, O Nanak! Through this intuitive understanding. ||8||3|| ਅਤਿ ਸਿਆਣੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਕਿਉ ਕੀਤੋ ਵੇਸਾਹੁ ॥ अति सिआणी सोहणी किउ कीतो वेसाहु ॥ Aṫ si▫aaṇee sohṇee ki▫o keeṫo vésaahu. It was so clever and beautiful, but why was it so confident? ਮਛੁਲੀ ਜਾਲੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਸਰੁ ਖਾਰਾ ਅਸਗਾਹੁ ॥ मछुली जालु न जाणिआ सरु खारा असगाहु ॥ Machʰulee jaal na jaaṇi▫aa sar kʰaaraa asgaahu. The fish did not notice the net in the deep and salty sea.
