ਮਨੁ ਕੁੰਚਰੁ ਪੀਲਕੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਕੁੰਡਾ ਜਹ ਖਿੰਚੇ ਤਹ ਜਾਇ ॥ मनु कुंचरु पीलकु गुरू गिआनु कुंडा जह खिंचे तह जाइ ॥ Man kunchar peelak guroo gi▫aan kundaa jah kʰinché ṫah jaa▫é. The mind is the elephant, the Guru is the elephant-driver, and knowledge is the whip. Wherever the Guru drives the mind, it goes. ਮਃ ੩ ॥ मः ३ ॥ Mėhlaa 3. Third Mehl: ਨਾਨਕ ਹਸਤੀ ਕੁੰਡੇ ਬਾਹਰਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਉਝੜਿ ਪਾਇ ॥੨॥ नानक हसती कुंडे बाहरा फिरि फिरि उझड़ि पाइ ॥२॥ Naanak hasṫee kundé baahraa fir fir ujʰaṛ paa▫é. ||2|| O Nanak! Without the whip, the elephant wanders into the wilderness, again and again. ||2||
