ਨਾ ਕਾਸੀ ਮਤਿ ਊਪਜੈ ਨਾ ਕਾਸੀ ਮਤਿ ਜਾਇ ॥ ना कासी मति ऊपजै ना कासी मति जाइ ॥ Nā kāsī maṯ ūpjai nā kāsī maṯ jā▫e. Wisdom is not produced in Benares, nor is wisdom lost in Benares. ਗੂਜਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ਪੰਚਪਦੇ ॥ गूजरी महला ३ पंचपदे ॥ Gūjrī mėhlā 3 pancẖpaḏe. Goojaree, Third Mehl, Panch-Padas: ਹਰਿ ਕਥਾ ਤੂੰ ਸੁਣਿ ਰੇ ਮਨ ਸਬਦੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇ ॥ हरि कथा तूं सुणि रे मन सबदु मंनि वसाइ ॥ Har kathā ṯūʼn suṇ re man sabaḏ man vasā▫e. Listen to the sermon of the Lord, O mind, and enshrine the Shabad of His Word within your mind. ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਮਤਿ ਊਪਜੈ ਤਾ ਇਹ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥ सतिगुर मिलिऐ मति ऊपजै ता इह सोझी पाइ ॥१॥ Saṯgur mili▫ai maṯ ūpjai ṯā ih sojẖī pā▫e. ||1|| Meeting the True Guru, wisdom is produced, and then, one obtains this understanding. ||1|| ਇਹ ਮਤਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਥਿਰੁ ਰਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਭਰਮੁ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ इह मति तेरी थिरु रहै तां भरमु विचहु जाइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ Ih maṯ ṯerī thir rahai ṯāʼn bẖaram vicẖahu jā▫e. ||1|| rahā▫o. If your intellect remains stable and steady, then doubt shall depart from within you. ||1||Pause|| ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣ ਰਿਦੈ ਵਸਾਇ ਤੂ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਨਾਸੁ ॥ हरि चरण रिदै वसाइ तू किलविख होवहि नासु ॥ Har cẖaraṇ riḏai vasā▫e ṯū kilvikẖ hovėh nās. Enshrine the Lord's lotus feet within your heart, and your sins shall be erased. ਪੰਚ ਭੂ ਆਤਮਾ ਵਸਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਤਾ ਤੀਰਥ ਕਰਹਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥੨॥ पंच भू आतमा वसि करहि ता तीरथ करहि निवासु ॥२॥ Pancẖ bẖū āṯmā vas karahi ṯā ṯirath karahi nivās. ||2|| If your soul overcomes the five elements, then you shall come to have a home at the true place of pilgrimage. ||2|| ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਮੁਗਧੁ ਹੈ ਸੋਝੀ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥ मनमुखि इहु मनु मुगधु है सोझी किछू न पाइ ॥ Manmukẖ ih man mugaḏẖ hai sojẖī kicẖẖū na pā▫e. This mind of the self-centered manmukh is so stupid; it does not obtain any understanding at all. ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਬੁਝਈ ਅੰਤਿ ਗਇਆ ਪਛੁਤਾਇ ॥੩॥ हरि का नामु न बुझई अंति गइआ पछुताइ ॥३॥ Har kā nām na bujẖ▫ī anṯ ga▫i▫ā pacẖẖuṯā▫e. ||3|| It does not understand the Name of the Lord; it departs repenting in the end. ||3|| ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਕਾਸੀ ਸਭਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਦੀਆ ਬੁਝਾਇ ॥ इहु मनु कासी सभि तीरथ सिम्रिति सतिगुर दीआ बुझाइ ॥ Ih man kāsī sabẖ ṯirath simriṯ saṯgur ḏī▫ā bujẖā▫e. In this mind are found Benares, all sacred shrines of pilgrimage and the Shaastras; the True Guru has explained this. ਅਠਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਤਿਸੁ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਹਹਿ ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੪॥ अठसठि तीरथ तिसु संगि रहहि जिन हरि हिरदै रहिआ समाइ ॥४॥ Aṯẖsaṯẖ ṯirath ṯis sang rahėh jin har hirḏai rahi▫ā samā▫e. ||4|| The sixty-eight places of pilgrimage remain with one, whose heart is filled with the Lord. ||4|| ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸਭੁ ਸਚੁ ਹੈ ਸਚੇ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੫॥੬॥੮॥ जो तुधु भावै सभु सचु है सचे रहै समाइ ॥५॥६॥८॥ Jo ṯuḏẖ bẖāvai sabẖ sacẖ hai sacẖe rahai samā▫e. ||5||6||8|| Those who are pleasing to You, O True Lord, are true. They remain absorbed in You. ||5||6||8|| ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਬੁਝਿਆ ਏਕੁ ਵਸਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥ नानक सतिगुर मिलिऐ हुकमु बुझिआ एकु वसिआ मनि आइ ॥ Nānak saṯgur mili▫ai hukam bujẖi▫ā ek vasi▫ā man ā▫e. O Nanak, upon meeting the True Guru, the Order of the Lord's Will is understood, and the One Lord comes to dwell in the mind.
