ਆਸਾ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀਉ ॥ आसा स्री कबीर जीउ ॥ Āsā sarī Kabīr jī▫o. Aasaa, Kabeer Jee: ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣ ਲਾਗਿ ਹਮ ਬਿਨਵਤਾ ਪੂਛਤ ਕਹ ਜੀਉ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ गुर चरण लागि हम बिनवता पूछत कह जीउ पाइआ ॥ Gur cẖaraṇ lāg ham binvaṯā pūcẖẖaṯ kah jī▫o pā▫i▫ā. Falling at the Feet of the Guru, I pray, and ask Him, "Why was man created? ਕਵਨ ਕਾਜਿ ਜਗੁ ਉਪਜੈ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਕਹਹੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਸਮਝਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ कवन काजि जगु उपजै बिनसै कहहु मोहि समझाइआ ॥१॥ Kavan kāj jag upjai binsai kahhu mohi samjẖā▫i▫ā. ||1|| What deeds cause the world to come into being, and be destroyed? Tell me, that I may understand".||1|| ਦੇਵ ਕਰਹੁ ਦਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਲਾਵਹੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਭੈ ਬੰਧਨ ਤੂਟੈ ॥ देव करहु दइआ मोहि मारगि लावहु जितु भै बंधन तूटै ॥ Ḏev karahu ḏa▫i▫ā mohi mārag lāvhu jiṯ bẖai banḏẖan ṯūtai. O Divine Guru, please, show Mercy to me, and place me on the right path, by which the bonds of fear may be cut away. ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੁਖ ਫੇੜ ਕਰਮ ਸੁਖ ਜੀਅ ਜਨਮ ਤੇ ਛੂਟੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ जनम मरन दुख फेड़ करम सुख जीअ जनम ते छूटै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ Janam maran ḏukẖ feṛ karam sukẖ jī▫a janam ṯe cẖẖūtai. ||1|| rahā▫o. The pains of birth and death come from past actions and karma; peace comes when the soul finds release from reincarnation. ||1||Pause|| ਮਾਇਆ ਫਾਸ ਬੰਧ ਨਹੀ ਫਾਰੈ ਅਰੁ ਮਨ ਸੁੰਨਿ ਨ ਲੂਕੇ ॥ माइआ फास बंध नही फारै अरु मन सुंनि न लूके ॥ Mā▫i▫ā fās banḏẖ nahī fārai ar man sunn na lūke. The mortal does not break free from the bonds of the noose of Maya, and he does not seek the shelter of the profound, absolute Lord. ਆਪਾ ਪਦੁ ਨਿਰਬਾਣੁ ਨ ਚੀਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿਆ ਇਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਅਭਿਉ ਨ ਚੂਕੇ ॥੨॥ आपा पदु निरबाणु न चीन्हिआ इन बिधि अभिउ न चूके ॥२॥ Āpā paḏ nirbāṇ na cẖīnĥi▫ā in biḏẖ abẖi▫o na cẖūke. ||2|| He does not realize the dignity of the self, and Nirvaanaa; because of this, his doubt does not depart. ||2|| ਕਹੀ ਨ ਉਪਜੈ ਉਪਜੀ ਜਾਣੈ ਭਾਵ ਅਭਾਵ ਬਿਹੂਣਾ ॥ कही न उपजै उपजी जाणै भाव अभाव बिहूणा ॥ Kahī na upjai upjī jāṇai bẖāv abẖāv bihūṇā. The soul is not born, even though he thinks it is born; it is free from birth and death. ਉਦੈ ਅਸਤ ਕੀ ਮਨ ਬੁਧਿ ਨਾਸੀ ਤਉ ਸਦਾ ਸਹਜਿ ਲਿਵ ਲੀਣਾ ॥੩॥ उदै असत की मन बुधि नासी तउ सदा सहजि लिव लीणा ॥३॥ Uḏai asaṯ kī man buḏẖ nāsī ṯa▫o saḏā sahj liv līṇā. ||3|| When the mortal gives up his ideas of birth and death, he remains constantly absorbed in the Lord's Love. ||3|| ਜਿਉ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਬਿੰਬੁ ਬਿੰਬ ਕਉ ਮਿਲੀ ਹੈ ਉਦਕ ਕੁੰਭੁ ਬਿਗਰਾਨਾ ॥ जिउ प्रतिबि्मबु बि्मब कउ मिली है उदक कु्मभु बिगराना ॥ Ji▫o parṯibimb bimb ka▫o milī hai uḏak kumbẖ bigrānā. As the reflection of an object blends in the water when the pitcher is broken, ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਐਸਾ ਗੁਣ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭਾਗਾ ਤਉ ਮਨੁ ਸੁੰਨਿ ਸਮਾਨਾਂ ॥੪॥੧॥ कहु कबीर ऐसा गुण भ्रमु भागा तउ मनु सुंनि समानां ॥४॥१॥ Kaho Kabīr aisā guṇ bẖaram bẖāgā ṯa▫o man sunn samānāʼn. ||4||1|| says Kabeer, just so virtue dispels doubt, and then the soul is absorbed in the profound, absolute Lord. ||4||1||
