ਅਧਮ ਚੰਡਾਲੀ ਭਈ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਣੀ ਸੂਦੀ ਤੇ ਸ੍ਰੇਸਟਾਈ ਰੇ ॥ अधम चंडाली भई ब्रहमणी सूदी ते स्रेसटाई रे ॥ Aḏẖam cẖandālī bẖa▫ī barahmaṇī sūḏī ṯe sarėstā▫ī re. The lowly outcaste becomes a Brahmin, and the untouchable sweeper becomes pure and sublime. ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ आसा महला ५ ॥ Āsā mėhlā 5. Aasaa, Fifth Mehl: ਪਾਤਾਲੀ ਆਕਾਸੀ ਸਖਨੀ ਲਹਬਰ ਬੂਝੀ ਖਾਈ ਰੇ ॥੧॥ पाताली आकासी सखनी लहबर बूझी खाई रे ॥१॥ Pāṯālī ākāsī sakẖnī lahbar būjẖī kẖā▫ī re. ||1|| The burning desire of the nether regions and the etheric realms is finally quenched and extinguished. ||1|| ਘਰ ਕੀ ਬਿਲਾਈ ਅਵਰ ਸਿਖਾਈ ਮੂਸਾ ਦੇਖਿ ਡਰਾਈ ਰੇ ॥ घर की बिलाई अवर सिखाई मूसा देखि डराई रे ॥ Gẖar kī bilā▫ī avar sikẖā▫ī mūsā ḏekẖ darā▫ī re. The house-cat has been taught otherwise, and is terrified upon seeing the mouse. ਬਾਝੁ ਥੂਨੀਆ ਛਪਰਾ ਥਾਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਿਆ ਨੀਘਰਿਆ ਘਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਰੇ ॥ बाझु थूनीआ छपरा थाम्हिआ नीघरिआ घरु पाइआ रे ॥ Bājẖ thūnī▫ā cẖẖaprā thāmiĥ▫ā nīgẖari▫ā gẖar pā▫i▫ā re. Without pillars, the roof is supported, and the homeless have found a home. ਅਜ ਕੈ ਵਸਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਕੀਨੋ ਕੇਹਰਿ ਕੂਕਰ ਤਿਨਹਿ ਲਗਾਈ ਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ अज कै वसि गुरि कीनो केहरि कूकर तिनहि लगाई रे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ Aj kai vas gur kīno kehar kūkar ṯinėh lagā▫ī re. ||1|| rahā▫o. The Guru has put the tiger under the control of the sheep, and now, the dog eats grass. ||1||Pause|| ਬਿਨੁ ਜੜੀਏ ਲੈ ਜੜਿਓ ਜੜਾਵਾ ਥੇਵਾ ਅਚਰਜੁ ਲਾਇਆ ਰੇ ॥੨॥ बिनु जड़ीए लै जड़िओ जड़ावा थेवा अचरजु लाइआ रे ॥२॥ Bin jaṛī▫e lai jaṛi▫i jaṛāvā thevā acẖraj lā▫i▫ā re. ||2|| Without the jeweler, the jewel has been set, and the wonderful stone shines forth. ||2|| ਦਾਦੀ ਦਾਦਿ ਨ ਪਹੁਚਨਹਾਰਾ ਚੂਪੀ ਨਿਰਨਉ ਪਾਇਆ ਰੇ ॥ दादी दादि न पहुचनहारा चूपी निरनउ पाइआ रे ॥ Ḏāḏī ḏāḏ na pahucẖanhārā cẖūpī nirna▫o pā▫i▫ā re. The claimant does not succeed by placing his claim, but by keeping silent, he obtains justice. ਮਾਲਿ ਦੁਲੀਚੈ ਬੈਠੀ ਲੇ ਮਿਰਤਕੁ ਨੈਨ ਦਿਖਾਲਨੁ ਧਾਇਆ ਰੇ ॥੩॥ मालि दुलीचै बैठी ले मिरतकु नैन दिखालनु धाइआ रे ॥३॥ Māl ḏulīcẖai baiṯẖī le mirṯak nain ḏikẖālan ḏẖā▫i▫ā re. ||3|| The dead sit on costly carpets, and what is seen with the eyes shall vanish. ||3|| ਸੋਈ ਅਜਾਣੁ ਕਹੈ ਮੈ ਜਾਨਾ ਜਾਨਣਹਾਰੁ ਨ ਛਾਨਾ ਰੇ ॥ सोई अजाणु कहै मै जाना जानणहारु न छाना रे ॥ So▫ī ajāṇ kahai mai jānā jānaṇhār na cẖẖānā re. One who claims to know, is ignorant; he does not know the Knower of all. ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਿ ਅਮਿਉ ਪੀਆਇਆ ਰਸਕਿ ਰਸਕਿ ਬਿਗਸਾਨਾ ਰੇ ॥੪॥੫॥੪੪॥ कहु नानक गुरि अमिउ पीआइआ रसकि रसकि बिगसाना रे ॥४॥५॥४४॥ Kaho Nānak gur ami▫o pī▫ā▫i▫ā rasak rasak bigsānā re. ||4||5||44|| Says Nanak, the Guru has given me the Ambrosial Nectar to drink in; savoring it and relishing it, I blossom forth in bliss. ||4||5||44|| ਬੰਧਨ ਕਾਟਿ ਬਿਸਾਰੇ ਅਉਗਨ ਅਪਨਾ ਬਿਰਦੁ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰਿਆ ॥ बंधन काटि बिसारे अउगन अपना बिरदु सम्हारिआ ॥ Banḏẖan kāt bisāre a▫ugan apnā biraḏ samĥāri▫a. He has cut away my bonds, and overlooked my shortcomings, and so He has confirmed His nature.
