ਪੁਤਰੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਿਧਿ ਕਰਿ ਥਾਟੀ ॥ पुतरी तेरी बिधि करि थाटी ॥ Puṯrī ṯerī biḏẖ kar thātī. The puppet of the body has been fashioned with great skill. ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ आसा महला ५ ॥ Āsā mėhlā 5. Aasaa, Fifth Mehl: ਮੂਲੁ ਸਮਾਲਹੁ ਅਚੇਤ ਗਵਾਰਾ ॥ मूलु समालहु अचेत गवारा ॥ Mūl samālahu acẖeṯ gavārā. Remember your origins, O thoughtless fool. ਜਾਨੁ ਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਹੋਇਗੀ ਮਾਟੀ ॥੧॥ जानु सति करि होइगी माटी ॥१॥ Jān saṯ kar ho▫igī mātī. ||1|| Know for sure that it shall turn to dust. ||1|| ਇਤਨੇ ਕਉ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕਿਆ ਗਰਬੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ इतने कउ तुम्ह किआ गरबे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ Iṯne ka▫o ṯumĥ ki▫ā garbe. ||1|| rahā▫o. Why are you so proud of yourself? ||1||Pause|| ਤੀਨਿ ਸੇਰ ਕਾ ਦਿਹਾੜੀ ਮਿਹਮਾਨੁ ॥ तीनि सेर का दिहाड़ी मिहमानु ॥ Ŧīn ser kā ḏihāṛī mihmān. You are a guest, given three meals a day; ਅਵਰ ਵਸਤੁ ਤੁਝ ਪਾਹਿ ਅਮਾਨ ॥੨॥ अवर वसतु तुझ पाहि अमान ॥२॥ Avar vasaṯ ṯujẖ pāhi amān. ||2|| other things are entrusted to you. ||2|| ਬਿਸਟਾ ਅਸਤ ਰਕਤੁ ਪਰੇਟੇ ਚਾਮ ॥ बिसटा असत रकतु परेटे चाम ॥ Bistā asaṯ rakaṯ parete cẖām. you are just excrement, bones and blood, wrapped up in skin - ਇਸੁ ਊਪਰਿ ਲੇ ਰਾਖਿਓ ਗੁਮਾਨ ॥੩॥ इसु ऊपरि ले राखिओ गुमान ॥३॥ Is ūpar le rākẖi▫o gumān. ||3|| this is what you are taking such pride in! ||3|| ਏਕ ਵਸਤੁ ਬੂਝਹਿ ਤਾ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਪਾਕ ॥ एक वसतु बूझहि ता होवहि पाक ॥ Ėk vasaṯ būjẖėh ṯā hovėh pāk. If you could understand even one thing, then you would be pure. ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝੇ ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਨਾਪਾਕ ॥੪॥ बिनु बूझे तूं सदा नापाक ॥४॥ Bin būjẖe ṯūʼn saḏā nāpāk. ||4|| Without understanding, you shall be forever impure. ||4|| ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੁ ॥ कहु नानक गुर कउ कुरबानु ॥ Kaho Nānak gur ka▫o kurbān. Says Nanak, I am a sacrifice to the Guru; ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਪਾਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਸੁਜਾਨੁ ॥੫॥੧੪॥ जिस ते पाईऐ हरि पुरखु सुजानु ॥५॥१४॥ Jis ṯe pā▫ī▫ai har purakẖ sujān. ||5||14|| through Him, I obtain the Lord, the All-knowing Primal Being. ||5||14||
