ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਾਚੀ ਹੁਜਤਿ ਦੂਰਿ ॥

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਾਚੀ ਹੁਜਤਿ ਦੂਰਿ
गुरमति साची हुजति दूरि ॥
Gurmaṯ sācẖī hujaṯ ḏūr.
Receiving the True Teachings from the Guru, arguments depart.

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ
आसा महला १ ॥
Āsā mėhlā 1.
Aasaa, First Mehl:

ਲਾਗੀ ਮੈਲੁ ਮਿਟੈ ਸਚ ਨਾਇ
लागी मैलु मिटै सच नाइ ॥
Lāgī mail mitai sacẖ nā▫e.
The filth of attachment is removed by the True Name of the Lord.

ਬਹੁਤੁ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਲਾਗੈ ਧੂਰਿ
बहुतु सिआणप लागै धूरि ॥
Bahuṯ si▫āṇap lāgai ḏẖūr.
But through excessive cleverness, one is only plastered with dirt.

ਹੈ ਹਜੂਰਿ ਹਾਜਰੁ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ
है हजूरि हाजरु अरदासि ॥
Hai hajūr hājar arḏās.
He is the Presence Ever-present; offer your prayers to Him.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਰਹੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੧॥
गुर परसादि रहै लिव लाइ ॥१॥
Gur parsāḏ rahai liv lā▫e. ||1||
By Guru's Grace, one remains lovingly attached to the Lord. ||1||

ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਕਰਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪਾਸਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ
दुखु सुखु साचु करते प्रभ पासि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Ḏukẖ sukẖ sācẖ karṯe parabẖ pās. ||1|| rahā▫o.
Pain and pleasure are in the Hands of God, the True Creator. ||1||Pause||

ਕੂੜੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਵੈ
कूड़ु कमावै आवै जावै ॥
Kūṛ kamāvai āvai jāvai.
One who practices falsehood comes and goes.

ਕਹਣਿ ਕਥਨਿ ਵਾਰਾ ਨਹੀ ਆਵੈ
कहणि कथनि वारा नही आवै ॥
Kahaṇ kathan vārā nahī āvai.
By speaking and talking, His limits cannot be found.

ਕਿਆ ਦੇਖਾ ਸੂਝ ਬੂਝ ਪਾਵੈ
किआ देखा सूझ बूझ न पावै ॥
Ki▫ā ḏekẖā sūjẖ būjẖ na pāvai.
Whatever one sees, is not understood.

ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਮਨਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਆਵੈ ॥੨॥
बिनु नावै मनि त्रिपति न आवै ॥२॥
Bin nāvai man ṯaripaṯ na āvai. ||2||
Without the Name, satisfaction does not enter into the mind. ||2||

ਜੋ ਜਨਮੇ ਸੇ ਰੋਗਿ ਵਿਆਪੇ
जो जनमे से रोगि विआपे ॥
Jo janme se rog vi▫āpe.
Whoever is born is afflicted by disease,

ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੂਖਿ ਸੰਤਾਪੇ
हउमै माइआ दूखि संतापे ॥
Ha▫umai mā▫i▫ā ḏūkẖ sanṯāpe.
tortured by the pain of egotism and Maya.

ਸੇ ਜਨ ਬਾਚੇ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਰਾਖੇ
से जन बाचे जो प्रभि राखे ॥
Se jan bācẖe jo parabẖ rākẖe.
They alone are saved, who are protected by God.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖੇ ॥੩॥
सतिगुरु सेवि अम्रित रसु चाखे ॥३॥
Saṯgur sev amriṯ ras cẖākẖe. ||3||
Serving the True Guru, they drink in the Amrit, the Ambrosial Nectar. ||3||

ਚਲਤਉ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਖੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਚਾਖੈ
चलतउ मनु राखै अम्रितु चाखै ॥
Cẖalṯa▫o man rākẖai amriṯ cẖākẖai.
The unstable mind is restrained by tasting this Nectar.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸਬਦੁ ਭਾਖੈ
सतिगुर सेवि अम्रित सबदु भाखै ॥
Saṯgur sev amriṯ sabaḏ bẖākẖai.
Serving the True Guru, one comes to cherish the Ambrosial Nectar of the Shabad.

ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਏ
साचै सबदि मुकति गति पाए ॥
Sācẖai sabaḏ mukaṯ gaṯ pā▫e.
Through the True Word of the Shabad, the state of liberation is obtained.

ਨਾਨਕ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥੪॥੧੩॥
नानक विचहु आपु गवाए ॥४॥१३॥
Nānak vicẖahu āp gavā▫e. ||4||13||
O Nanak, self-conceit is eradicated from within. ||4||13||
