टूटी गाढनहार गोपाल ॥
Tūtī gādẖanhār gopāl.
The Lord of the World is the Mender of the broken.

ਅਸਟਪਦੀ
असटपदी ॥
Asatpaḏī.
Ashtapadee:

ਸਗਲ ਕੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ
सगल की चिंता जिसु मन माहि ॥
Sagal kī cẖinṯā jis man māhi.
The cares of all are on His Mind;

ਸਰਬ ਜੀਆ ਆਪੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲ
सरब जीआ आपे प्रतिपाल ॥
Sarab jī▫ā āpe parṯipāl.
He Himself cherishes all beings.

ਤਿਸ ਤੇ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਕੋਈ ਨਾਹਿ
तिस ते बिरथा कोई नाहि ॥
Ŧis ṯe birthā ko▫ī nāhi.
no one is turned away from Him.

ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ
अबिनासी प्रभु आपे आपि ॥
Abẖināsī parabẖ āpe āp.
The Imperishable Lord God is Himself All-in-all.

ਰੇ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਪਿ
रे मन मेरे सदा हरि जापि ॥
Re man mere saḏā har jāp.
O my mind, meditate forever on the Lord.

ਆਪਨ ਕੀਆ ਕਛੂ ਹੋਇ
आपन कीआ कछू न होइ ॥
Āpan kī▫ā kacẖẖū na ho▫e.
By one's own actions, nothing is accomplished,

ਜੇ ਸਉ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਲੋਚੈ ਕੋਇ
जे सउ प्रानी लोचै कोइ ॥
Je sa▫o parānī locẖai ko▫e.
even though the mortal may wish it so, hundreds of times.

ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਤੇਰੈ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਾਮ
तिसु बिनु नाही तेरै किछु काम ॥
Ŧis bin nāhī ṯerai kicẖẖ kām.
Without Him, nothing is of any use to you.

ਗਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਪਿ ਏਕ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ॥੧॥
गति नानक जपि एक हरि नाम ॥१॥
Gaṯ Nānak jap ek har nām. ||1||
Salvation, O Nanak, is attained by chanting the Name of the One Lord. ||1||

ਰੂਪਵੰਤੁ ਹੋਇ ਨਾਹੀ ਮੋਹੈ
रूपवंतु होइ नाही मोहै ॥
Rūpvanṯ ho▫e nāhī mohai.
One who is good-looking should not be vain;

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਗਲ ਘਟ ਸੋਹੈ
प्रभ की जोति सगल घट सोहै ॥
Parabẖ kī joṯ sagal gẖat sohai.
the Light of God is in all hearts.

ਧਨਵੰਤਾ ਹੋਇ ਕਿਆ ਕੋ ਗਰਬੈ
धनवंता होइ किआ को गरबै ॥
Ḏẖanvanṯā ho▫e ki▫ā ko garbai.
Why should anyone be proud of being rich?

ਅਤਿ ਸੂਰਾ ਜੇ ਕੋਊ ਕਹਾਵੈ
अति सूरा जे कोऊ कहावै ॥
Aṯ sūrā je ko▫ū kahāvai.
One may call himself a great hero,

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਕਲਾ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਹ ਧਾਵੈ
प्रभ की कला बिना कह धावै ॥
Parabẖ kī kalā binā kah ḏẖāvai.
but without God's Power, what can anyone do?

ਜਾ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਦੀਆ ਦਰਬੈ
जा सभु किछु तिस का दीआ दरबै ॥
Jā sabẖ kicẖẖ ṯis kā ḏī▫ā ḏarbai.
All riches are His gifts.

ਜੇ ਕੋ ਹੋਇ ਬਹੈ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ
जे को होइ बहै दातारु ॥
Je ko ho▫e bahai ḏāṯār.
One who brags about giving to charities -

ਤਿਸੁ ਦੇਨਹਾਰੁ ਜਾਨੈ ਗਾਵਾਰੁ
तिसु देनहारु जानै गावारु ॥
Ŧis ḏenhār jānai gāvār.
the Great Giver shall judge him to be a fool.

ਜਿਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਤੂਟੈ ਹਉ ਰੋਗੁ
जिसु गुर प्रसादि तूटै हउ रोगु ॥
Jis gur parsāḏ ṯūtai ha▫o rog.
One who, by Guru's Grace, is cured of the disease of ego -

ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਅਰੋਗੁ ॥੨॥
नानक सो जनु सदा अरोगु ॥२॥
Nānak so jan saḏā arog. ||2||
O Nanak, that person is forever healthy. ||2||

ਜਿਉ ਮੰਦਰ ਕਉ ਥਾਮੈ ਥੰਮਨੁ
जिउ मंदर कउ थामै थमनु ॥
Ji▫o manḏar ka▫o thāmai thamman.
As a palace is supported by its pillars,

ਤਿਉ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਮਨਹਿ ਅਸਥੰਮਨੁ
तिउ गुर का सबदु मनहि असथमनु ॥
Ŧi▫o gur kā sabaḏ manėh asthamman.
so does the Guru's Word support the mind.

ਜਿਉ ਅੰਧਕਾਰ ਦੀਪਕ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ
जिउ अंधकार दीपक परगासु ॥
Ji▫o anḏẖkār ḏīpak pargās.
As the darkness is illuminated by the lamp,

ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣ ਲਗਤੁ ਨਿਸਤਰੈ
प्राणी गुर चरण लगतु निसतरै ॥
Parāṇī gur cẖaraṇ lagaṯ nisṯarai.
so is the mortal saved, grasping hold of the Guru's Feet.

ਜਿਉ ਪਾਖਾਣੁ ਨਾਵ ਚੜਿ ਤਰੈ
जिउ पाखाणु नाव चड़ि तरै ॥
Ji▫o pākẖāṇ nāv cẖaṛ ṯarai.
As a stone placed in a boat can cross over the river,

ਗੁਰ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਮਨਿ ਹੋਇ ਬਿਗਾਸੁ
गुर दरसनु देखि मनि होइ बिगासु ॥
Gur ḏarsan ḏekẖ man ho▫e bigās.
so does the mind blossom forth, beholding the Blessed Vision of the Guru's Darshan.

ਜਿਉ ਮਹਾ ਉਦਿਆਨ ਮਹਿ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਪਾਵੈ
जिउ महा उदिआन महि मारगु पावै ॥
Ji▫o mahā uḏi▫ān mėh mārag pāvai.
The path is found through the great wilderness,

ਤਿਉ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਵੈ
तिउ साधू संगि मिलि जोति प्रगटावै ॥
Ŧi▫o sāḏẖū sang mil joṯ paragtāvai.
by joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, and one's light shines forth.

ਤਿਨ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਬਾਛਉ ਧੂਰਿ
तिन संतन की बाछउ धूरि ॥
Ŧin sanṯan kī bācẖẖa▫o ḏẖūr.
I seek the dust of the feet of those Saints;

ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਹਰਿ ਲੋਚਾ ਪੂਰਿ ॥੩॥
नानक की हरि लोचा पूरि ॥३॥
Nānak kī har locẖā pūr. ||3||
O Lord, fulfill Nanak's longing! ||3||

ਮਨ ਮੂਰਖ ਕਾਹੇ ਬਿਲਲਾਈਐ
मन मूरख काहे बिललाईऐ ॥
Man mūrakẖ kāhe billā▫ī▫ai.
O foolish mind, why do you cry and bewail?

ਪੁਰਬ ਲਿਖੇ ਕਾ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਪਾਈਐ
पुरब लिखे का लिखिआ पाईऐ ॥
Purab likẖe kā likẖi▫ā pā▫ī▫ai.
You shall obtain your pre-ordained destiny.

ਦੂਖ ਸੂਖ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੇਵਨਹਾਰੁ
दूख सूख प्रभ देवनहारु ॥
Ḏūkẖ sūkẖ parabẖ ḏevanhār.
God is the Giver of pain and pleasure.

ਅਵਰ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਤੂ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਚਿਤਾਰੁ
अवर तिआगि तू तिसहि चितारु ॥
Avar ṯi▫āg ṯū ṯisėh cẖiṯār.
Abandon others, and think of Him alone.

ਜੋ ਕਛੁ ਕਰੈ ਸੋਈ ਸੁਖੁ ਮਾਨੁ
जो कछु करै सोई सुखु मानु ॥
Jo kacẖẖ karai so▫ī sukẖ mān.
Whatever He does - take comfort in that.

ਕਉਨ ਬਸਤੁ ਆਈ ਤੇਰੈ ਸੰਗ
कउन बसतु आई तेरै संग ॥
Ka▫un basaṯ ā▫ī ṯerai sang.
What things did you bring with you?

ਭੂਲਾ ਕਾਹੇ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਅਜਾਨ
भूला काहे फिरहि अजान ॥
Bẖūlā kāhe firėh ajān.
Why do you wander around, you ignorant fool?

ਲਪਟਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਰਸਿ ਲੋਭੀ ਪਤੰਗ
लपटि रहिओ रसि लोभी पतंग ॥
Lapat rahi▫o ras lobẖī paṯang.
You cling to worldly pleasures like a greedy moth.

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਮਾਹਿ
राम नाम जपि हिरदे माहि ॥
Rām nām jap hirḏe māhi.
Dwell upon the Lord's Name in your heart.

ਨਾਨਕ ਪਤਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੪॥
नानक पति सेती घरि जाहि ॥४॥
Nānak paṯ seṯī gẖar jāhi. ||4||
O Nanak, thus you shall return to your home with honor. ||4||

ਜਿਸੁ ਵਖਰ ਕਉ ਲੈਨਿ ਤੂ ਆਇਆ
जिसु वखर कउ लैनि तू आइआ ॥
Jis vakẖar ka▫o lain ṯū ā▫i▫ā.
This merchandise, which you have come to obtain,

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੰਤਨ ਘਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ
राम नामु संतन घरि पाइआ ॥
Rām nām sanṯan gẖar pā▫i▫ā.
the Lord's Name is obtained in the home of the Saints.

ਤਜਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ਲੇਹੁ ਮਨ ਮੋਲਿ
तजि अभिमानु लेहु मन मोलि ॥
Ŧaj abẖimān leho man mol.
Renounce your egotistical pride, and with your mind,

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਮਹਿ ਤੋਲਿ
राम नामु हिरदे महि तोलि ॥
Rām nām hirḏe mėh ṯol.
purchase the Lord's Name - measure it out within your heart.

ਧੰਨਿ ਧੰਨਿ ਕਹੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ
धंनि धंनि कहै सभु कोइ ॥
Ḏẖan ḏẖan kahai sabẖ ko▫e.
Blessed, blessed, everyone will call you,

ਲਾਦਿ ਖੇਪ ਸੰਤਹ ਸੰਗਿ ਚਾਲੁ
लादि खेप संतह संगि चालु ॥
Lāḏ kẖep sanṯėh sang cẖāl.
Load up this merchandise, and set out with the Saints.

ਅਵਰ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਜੰਜਾਲ
अवर तिआगि बिखिआ जंजाल ॥
Avar ṯi▫āg bikẖi▫ā janjāl.
Give up other corrupt entanglements.

ਮੁਖ ਊਜਲ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਸੋਇ
मुख ऊजल हरि दरगह सोइ ॥
Mukẖ ūjal har ḏargėh so▫e.
and your face shall be radiant in the Court of the Lord.

ਇਹੁ ਵਾਪਾਰੁ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਵਾਪਾਰੈ
इहु वापारु विरला वापारै ॥
Ih vāpār virlā vāpārai.
In this trade, only a few are trading.

ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ॥੫॥
नानक ता कै सद बलिहारै ॥५॥
Nānak ṯā kai saḏ balihārai. ||5||
Nanak is forever a sacrifice to them. ||5||

ਚਰਨ ਸਾਧ ਕੇ ਧੋਇ ਧੋਇ ਪੀਉ
चरन साध के धोइ धोइ पीउ ॥
Cẖaran sāḏẖ ke ḏẖo▫e ḏẖo▫e pī▫o.
Wash the feet of the Holy, and drink in this water.

ਅਰਪਿ ਸਾਧ ਕਉ ਅਪਨਾ ਜੀਉ
अरपि साध कउ अपना जीउ ॥
Arap sāḏẖ ka▫o apnā jī▫o.
Dedicate your soul to the Holy.

ਸਾਧ ਕੀ ਧੂਰਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ
साध की धूरि करहु इसनानु ॥
Sāḏẖ kī ḏẖūr karahu isnān.
Take your cleansing bath in the dust of the feet of the Holy.

ਸਾਧ ਊਪਰਿ ਜਾਈਐ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੁ
साध ऊपरि जाईऐ कुरबानु ॥
Sāḏẖ ūpar jā▫ī▫ai kurbān.
To the Holy, make your life a sacrifice.

ਸਾਧ ਸੇਵਾ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਪਾਈਐ
साध सेवा वडभागी पाईऐ ॥
Sāḏẖ sevā vadbẖāgī pā▫ī▫ai.
Service to the Holy is obtained by great good fortune.

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗਾਈਐ
साधसंगि हरि कीरतनु गाईऐ ॥
Sāḏẖsang har kīrṯan gā▫ī▫ai.
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, the Kirtan of the Lord's Praise is sung.

ਅਨਿਕ ਬਿਘਨ ਤੇ ਸਾਧੂ ਰਾਖੈ
अनिक बिघन ते साधू राखै ॥
Anik bigẖan ṯe sāḏẖū rākẖai.
From all sorts of dangers, the Saint saves us.

ਓਟ ਗਹੀ ਸੰਤਹ ਦਰਿ ਆਇਆ
ओट गही संतह दरि आइआ ॥
Ot gahī sanṯėh ḏar ā▫i▫ā.
Seeking the Protection of the Saints, we have come to their door.

ਸਰਬ ਸੂਖ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਹ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੬॥
सरब सूख नानक तिह पाइआ ॥६॥
Sarab sūkẖ Nānak ṯih pā▫i▫ā. ||6||
All comforts, O Nanak, are so obtained. ||6||

ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖੈ
हरि गुन गाइ अम्रित रसु चाखै ॥
Har gun gā▫e amriṯ ras cẖākẖai.
Singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, we taste the ambrosial essence.

ਮਿਰਤਕ ਕਉ ਜੀਵਾਲਨਹਾਰ
मिरतक कउ जीवालनहार ॥
Mirṯak ka▫o jīvālanhār.
He infuses life back into the dead.

ਭੂਖੇ ਕਉ ਦੇਵਤ ਅਧਾਰ
भूखे कउ देवत अधार ॥
Bẖūkẖe ka▫o ḏevaṯ aḏẖār.
He gives food to the hungry.

ਸਰਬ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟੀ ਮਾਹਿ
सरब निधान जा की द्रिसटी माहि ॥
Sarab niḏẖān jā kī ḏaristī māhi.
All treasures are within His Glance of Grace.

ਪੁਰਬ ਲਿਖੇ ਕਾ ਲਹਣਾ ਪਾਹਿ
पुरब लिखे का लहणा पाहि ॥
Purab likẖe kā lahṇā pāhi.
People obtain that which they are pre-ordained to receive.

ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਓਹੁ ਕਰਨੈ ਜੋਗੁ
सभु किछु तिस का ओहु करनै जोगु ॥
Sabẖ kicẖẖ ṯis kā oh karnai jog.
All things are His; He is the Doer of all.

ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਸਰ ਹੋਆ ਹੋਗੁ
तिसु बिनु दूसर होआ न होगु ॥
Ŧis bin ḏūsar ho▫ā na hog.
Other than Him, there has never been any other, and there shall never be.

ਜਪਿ ਜਨ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਣੀ
जपि जन सदा सदा दिनु रैणी ॥
Jap jan saḏā saḏā ḏin raiṇī.
Meditate on Him forever and ever, day and night.

ਸਭ ਤੇ ਊਚ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਇਹ ਕਰਣੀ
सभ ते ऊच निरमल इह करणी ॥
Sabẖ ṯe ūcẖ nirmal ih karṇī.
This way of life is exalted and immaculate.

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਜਿਸ ਕਉ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੀਆ
करि किरपा जिस कउ नामु दीआ ॥
Kar kirpā jis ka▫o nām ḏī▫ā.
One whom the Lord, in His Grace, blesses with His Name -

ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਥੀਆ ॥੭॥
नानक सो जनु निरमलु थीआ ॥७॥
Nānak so jan nirmal thī▫ā. ||7||
O Nanak, that person becomes immaculate and pure. ||7||

ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਆਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਚੀਤਿ
तिसु जन आवै हरि प्रभु चीति ॥
Ŧis jan āvai har parabẖ cẖīṯ.
comes to dwell upon the Lord God.

ਜਾ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਪਰਤੀਤਿ
जा कै मनि गुर की परतीति ॥
Jā kai man gur kī parṯīṯ.
One who has faith in the Guru in his mind

ਭਗਤੁ ਭਗਤੁ ਸੁਨੀਐ ਤਿਹੁ ਲੋਇ
भगतु भगतु सुनीऐ तिहु लोइ ॥
Bẖagaṯ bẖagaṯ sunī▫ai ṯihu lo▫e.
He is acclaimed as a devotee, a humble devotee throughout the three worlds.

ਜਾ ਕੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਏਕੋ ਹੋਇ
जा कै हिरदै एको होइ ॥
Jā kai hirḏai eko ho▫e.
The One Lord is in his heart.

ਸਚੁ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਚੁ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਰਹਤ
सचु करणी सचु ता की रहत ॥
Sacẖ karṇī sacẖ ṯā kī rahaṯ.
True are his actions; true are his ways.

ਸਚੁ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਸਤਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਕਹਤ
सचु हिरदै सति मुखि कहत ॥
Sacẖ hirḏai saṯ mukẖ kahaṯ.
True is his heart; Truth is what he speaks with his mouth.

ਸਾਚੀ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਆਕਾਰੁ
साची द्रिसटि साचा आकारु ॥
Sācẖī ḏarisat sācẖā ākār.
True is his vision; true is his form.

ਸਚੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਸਾਚਾ ਪਾਸਾਰੁ
सचु वरतै साचा पासारु ॥
Sacẖ varṯai sācẖā pāsār.
He distributes Truth and he spreads Truth.

ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਸਚੁ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਤਾ
पारब्रहमु जिनि सचु करि जाता ॥
Pārbarahm jin sacẖ kar jāṯā.
One who recognizes the Supreme Lord God as True -

ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਤਾ ॥੮॥੧੫॥
नानक सो जनु सचि समाता ॥८॥१५॥
Nānak so jan sacẖ samāṯā. ||8||15||
O Nanak, that humble being is absorbed into the True One. ||8||15||
