ਗਉੜੀ ਗੁਆਰੇਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥ गउड़ी गुआरेरी महला १ ॥ Ga▫oṛī gu▫ārerī mėhlā 1. Gauree Gwaarayree, First Mehl: ਨਾ ਮਨੁ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਕਾਰਜੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ ना मनु मरै न कारजु होइ ॥ Nā man marai na kāraj ho▫e. The mind does not die, so the job is not accomplished. ਮਨੁ ਵਸਿ ਦੂਤਾ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਦੋਇ ॥ मनु वसि दूता दुरमति दोइ ॥ Man vas ḏūṯā ḏurmaṯ ḏo▫e. The mind is under the power of the demons of evil intellect and duality. ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨੈ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਇਕੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥ मनु मानै गुर ते इकु होइ ॥१॥ Man mānai gur ṯe ik ho▫e. ||1|| But when the mind surrenders, through the Guru, it becomes one. ||1|| ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਰਾਮੁ ਗੁਣਹ ਵਸਿ ਹੋਇ ॥ निरगुण रामु गुणह वसि होइ ॥ Nirguṇ rām guṇah vas ho▫e. The Lord is without attributes; the attributes of virtue are under His control. ਆਪੁ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ਬੀਚਾਰੇ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ आपु निवारि बीचारे सोइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ Āp nivār bīcẖāre so▫e. ||1|| rahā▫o. One who eliminates selfishness contemplates Him. ||1||Pause|| ਮਨੁ ਭੂਲੋ ਬਹੁ ਚਿਤੈ ਵਿਕਾਰੁ ॥ मनु भूलो बहु चितै विकारु ॥ Man bẖūlo baho cẖiṯai vikār. The deluded mind thinks of all sorts of corruption. ਮਨੁ ਭੂਲੋ ਸਿਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਭਾਰੁ ॥ मनु भूलो सिरि आवै भारु ॥ Man bẖūlo sir āvai bẖār. When the mind is deluded, the load of wickedness falls on the head. ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨੈ ਹਰਿ ਏਕੰਕਾਰੁ ॥੨॥ मनु मानै हरि एकंकारु ॥२॥ Man mānai har ekankār. ||2|| But when the mind surrenders to the Lord, it realizes the One and Only Lord. ||2|| ਮਨੁ ਭੂਲੋ ਮਾਇਆ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਇ ॥ मनु भूलो माइआ घरि जाइ ॥ Man bẖūlo mā▫i▫ā gẖar jā▫e. The deluded mind enters the house of Maya. ਕਾਮਿ ਬਿਰੂਧਉ ਰਹੈ ਨ ਠਾਇ ॥ कामि बिरूधउ रहै न ठाइ ॥ Kām birūḏẖa▫o rahai na ṯẖā▫e. Engrossed in sexual desire, it does not remain steady. ਹਰਿ ਭਜੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਰਸਨ ਰਸਾਇ ॥੩॥ हरि भजु प्राणी रसन रसाइ ॥३॥ Har bẖaj parāṇī rasan rasā▫e. ||3|| O mortal, lovingly vibrate the Lord's Name with your tongue. ||3|| ਗੈਵਰ ਹੈਵਰ ਕੰਚਨ ਸੁਤ ਨਾਰੀ ॥ गैवर हैवर कंचन सुत नारी ॥ Gaivar haivar kancẖan suṯ nārī. Elephants, horses, gold, children and spouses - ਬਹੁ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਪਿੜ ਚਾਲੈ ਹਾਰੀ ॥ बहु चिंता पिड़ चालै हारी ॥ Baho cẖinṯā piṛ cẖālai hārī. in the anxious affairs of all these, people lose the game and depart. ਜੂਐ ਖੇਲਣੁ ਕਾਚੀ ਸਾਰੀ ॥੪॥ जूऐ खेलणु काची सारी ॥४॥ Jū▫ai kẖelaṇ kācẖī sārī. ||4|| In the game of chess, their pieces do not reach their destination. ||4|| ਸੰਪਉ ਸੰਚੀ ਭਏ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥ स्मपउ संची भए विकार ॥ Sampa▫o sancẖī bẖa▫e vikār. They gather wealth, but only evil comes from it. ਹਰਖ ਸੋਕ ਉਭੇ ਦਰਵਾਰਿ ॥ हरख सोक उभे दरवारि ॥ Harakẖ sok ubẖe ḏarvār. Pleasure and pain stand in the doorway. ਸੁਖੁ ਸਹਜੇ ਜਪਿ ਰਿਦੈ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ॥੫॥ सुखु सहजे जपि रिदै मुरारि ॥५॥ Sukẖ sėhje jap riḏai murār. ||5|| Intuitive peace comes by meditating on the Lord, within the heart. ||5|| ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਾ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥ नदरि करे ता मेलि मिलाए ॥ Naḏar kare ṯā mel milā▫e. When the Lord bestows His Glance of Grace, then He unites us in His Union. ਗੁਣ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਅਉਗਣ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਏ ॥ गुण संग्रहि अउगण सबदि जलाए ॥ Guṇ sangrahi a▫ugaṇ sabaḏ jalā▫e. Through the Word of the Shabad, merits are gathered in, and demerits are burned away. ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਏ ॥੬॥ गुरमुखि नामु पदारथु पाए ॥६॥ Gurmukẖ nām paḏārath pā▫e. ||6|| The Gurmukh obtains the treasure of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||6|| ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸਭ ਦੂਖ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥ बिनु नावै सभ दूख निवासु ॥ Bin nāvai sabẖ ḏūkẖ nivās. Without the Name, all live in pain. ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੂੜ ਮਾਇਆ ਚਿਤ ਵਾਸੁ ॥ मनमुख मूड़ माइआ चित वासु ॥ Manmukẖ mūṛ mā▫i▫ā cẖiṯ vās. The consciousness of the foolish, self-willed manmukh is the dwelling place of Maya. ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧੁਰਿ ਕਰਮਿ ਲਿਖਿਆਸੁ ॥੭॥ गुरमुखि गिआनु धुरि करमि लिखिआसु ॥७॥ Gurmukẖ gi▫ān ḏẖur karam likẖi▫ās. ||7|| The Gurmukh obtains spiritual wisdom, according to pre-ordained destiny. ||7|| ਮਨੁ ਚੰਚਲੁ ਧਾਵਤੁ ਫੁਨਿ ਧਾਵੈ ॥ मनु चंचलु धावतु फुनि धावै ॥ Man cẖancẖal ḏẖāvaṯ fun ḏẖāvai. The fickle mind continuously runs after fleeting things. ਸਾਚੇ ਸੂਚੇ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਭਾਵੈ ॥ साचे सूचे मैलु न भावै ॥ Sācẖe sūcẖe mail na bẖāvai. The Pure True Lord is not pleased by filth. ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ॥੮॥੩॥ नानक गुरमुखि हरि गुण गावै ॥८॥३॥ Nānak gurmukẖ har guṇ gāvai. ||8||3|| O Nanak, the Gurmukh sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||8||3||
