ਗਉੜੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ गउड़ी महला ५ ॥ Ga▫oṛī mėhlā 5. Gauree, Fifth Mehl: ਧੋਤੀ ਖੋਲਿ ਵਿਛਾਏ ਹੇਠਿ ॥ धोती खोलि विछाए हेठि ॥ Ḏẖoṯī kẖol vicẖẖā▫e heṯẖ. He opens his loin-cloth, and spreads it out beneath him. ਗਰਧਪ ਵਾਂਗੂ ਲਾਹੇ ਪੇਟਿ ॥੧॥ गरधप वांगू लाहे पेटि ॥१॥ Garḏẖap vāʼngū lāhe pet. ||1|| Like a donkey, he gulps down all that comes his way. ||1|| ਬਿਨੁ ਕਰਤੂਤੀ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ॥ बिनु करतूती मुकति न पाईऐ ॥ Bin karṯūṯī mukaṯ na pā▫ī▫ai. Without good deeds, liberation is not obtained. ਮੁਕਤਿ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ मुकति पदारथु नामु धिआईऐ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ Mukaṯ paḏārath nām ḏẖi▫ā▫ī▫ai. ||1|| rahā▫o. The wealth of liberation is only obtained by meditating on the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1||Pause|| ਪੂਜਾ ਤਿਲਕ ਕਰਤ ਇਸਨਾਨਾਂ ॥ पूजा तिलक करत इसनानां ॥ Pūjā ṯilak karaṯ isnānāʼn. He performs worship ceremonies, applies the ceremonial tilak mark to his forehead, and takes his ritual cleansing baths; ਛੁਰੀ ਕਾਢਿ ਲੇਵੈ ਹਥਿ ਦਾਨਾ ॥੨॥ छुरी काढि लेवै हथि दाना ॥२॥ Cẖẖurī kādẖ levai hath ḏānā. ||2|| he pulls out his knife, and demands donations. ||2|| ਬੇਦੁ ਪੜੈ ਮੁਖਿ ਮੀਠੀ ਬਾਣੀ ॥ बेदु पड़ै मुखि मीठी बाणी ॥ Beḏ paṛai mukẖ mīṯẖī baṇī. With his mouth, he recites the Vedas in sweet musical measures, ਜੀਆਂ ਕੁਹਤ ਨ ਸੰਗੈ ਪਰਾਣੀ ॥੩॥ जीआं कुहत न संगै पराणी ॥३॥ Jī▫āʼn kuhaṯ na sangai parāṇī. ||3|| and yet he does not hesitate to take the lives of others. ||3|| ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸੁ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੈ ॥ कहु नानक जिसु किरपा धारै ॥ Kaho Nānak jis kirpā ḏẖārai. Says Nanak, when God showers His Mercy, ਹਿਰਦਾ ਸੁਧੁ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੈ ॥੪॥੧੦੭॥ हिरदा सुधु ब्रहमु बीचारै ॥४॥१०७॥ Hirḏā suḏẖ barahm bīcẖārai. ||4||107|| even his heart becomes pure, and he contemplates God. ||4||107||
