ਗਉੜੀ ਬੈਰਾਗਣਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥ गउड़ी बैरागणि महला १ ॥ Ga▫oṛī bairāgaṇ mėhlā 1. Gauree Bairaagan, First Mehl: ਰੈਣਿ ਗਵਾਈ ਸੋਇ ਕੈ ਦਿਵਸੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਖਾਇ ॥ रैणि गवाई सोइ कै दिवसु गवाइआ खाइ ॥ Raiṇ gavā▫ī so▫e kai ḏivas gavā▫i▫ā kẖā▫e. The nights are wasted sleeping, and the days are wasted eating. ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਰਾਮ ਕਾ ॥ नामु न जानिआ राम का ॥ Nām na jāni▫ā rām kā. You do not know the Name of the Lord. ਹੀਰੇ ਜੈਸਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਹੈ ਕਉਡੀ ਬਦਲੇ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ हीरे जैसा जनमु है कउडी बदले जाइ ॥१॥ Hīre jaisā janam hai ka▫udī baḏle jā▫e. ||1|| Human life is such a precious jewel, but it is being lost in exchange for a mere shell. ||1|| ਮੂੜੇ ਫਿਰਿ ਪਾਛੈ ਪਛੁਤਾਹਿ ਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ मूड़े फिरि पाछै पछुताहि रे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ Mūṛe fir pācẖẖai pacẖẖuṯāhi re. ||1|| rahā▫o. You fool - you shall regret and repent in the end! ||1||Pause|| ਅਨਤਾ ਧਨੁ ਧਰਣੀ ਧਰੇ ਅਨਤ ਨ ਚਾਹਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥ अनता धनु धरणी धरे अनत न चाहिआ जाइ ॥ Anṯā ḏẖan ḏẖarṇī ḏẖare anaṯ na cẖāhi▫ā jā▫e. You bury your temporary wealth in the ground, but how can you love that which is temporary? ਅਨਤ ਕਉ ਚਾਹਨ ਜੋ ਗਏ ਸੇ ਆਏ ਅਨਤ ਗਵਾਇ ॥੨॥ अनत कउ चाहन जो गए से आए अनत गवाइ ॥२॥ Anaṯ ka▫o cẖāhan jo ga▫e se ā▫e anaṯ gavā▫e. ||2|| Those who have departed, after craving for temporary wealth, have returned home without this temporary wealth. ||2|| ਆਪਣ ਲੀਆ ਜੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਭਾਗਠੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ आपण लीआ जे मिलै ता सभु को भागठु होइ ॥ Āpaṇ lī▫ā je milai ṯā sabẖ ko bẖāgaṯẖ ho▫e. If people could gather it in by their own efforts, then everyone would be so lucky. ਕਰਮਾ ਉਪਰਿ ਨਿਬੜੈ ਜੇ ਲੋਚੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥੩॥ करमा उपरि निबड़ै जे लोचै सभु कोइ ॥३॥ Karmā upar nibṛai je locẖai sabẖ ko▫e. ||3|| According to the karma of past actions, one's destiny unfolds, even though everyone wants to be so lucky. ||3|| ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰਣਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਕੀਆ ਸੋਈ ਸਾਰ ਕਰੇਇ ॥ नानक करणा जिनि कीआ सोई सार करेइ ॥ Nānak karṇā jin kī▫ā so▫ī sār kare▫i. O Nanak, the One who created the creation - He alone takes care of it. ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਪੀ ਖਸਮ ਕਾ ਕਿਸੈ ਵਡਾਈ ਦੇਇ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੮॥ हुकमु न जापी खसम का किसै वडाई देइ ॥४॥१॥१८॥ Hukam na jāpī kẖasam kā kisai vadā▫ī ḏe▫e. ||4||1||18|| The Hukam of our Lord and Master's Command cannot be known; He Himself blesses us with greatness. ||4||1||18||
