ਸਲੋਕੁ ਮਃ ੧ ॥ सलोकु मः १ ॥ Salok mėhlā 1. Shalok, First Mehl: ਪਹਿਰਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਹਿਵੈ ਘਰੁ ਬਾਧਾ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਸਾਰੁ ਕਰਾਈ ॥ पहिरा अगनि हिवै घरु बाधा भोजनु सारु कराई ॥ Pahirā agan hivai gẖar bāḏẖā bẖojan sār karā▫ī. If I dressed myself in fire, and built my house of snow, and made iron my food; ਸਗਲੇ ਦੂਖ ਪਾਣੀ ਕਰਿ ਪੀਵਾ ਧਰਤੀ ਹਾਕ ਚਲਾਈ ॥ सगले दूख पाणी करि पीवा धरती हाक चलाई ॥ Sagle ḏūkẖ pāṇī kar pīvā ḏẖarṯī hāk cẖalā▫ī. and if I were to drink in all pain like water, and drive the entire earth before me; ਧਰਿ ਤਾਰਾਜੀ ਅੰਬਰੁ ਤੋਲੀ ਪਿਛੈ ਟੰਕੁ ਚੜਾਈ ॥ धरि ताराजी अम्बरु तोली पिछै टंकु चड़ाई ॥ Ḏẖar ṯārājī ambar ṯolī picẖẖai tank cẖaṛā▫ī. and if I were to place the earth upon a scale and balance it with a single copper coin; ਏਤਾ ਤਾਣੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਮਨ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਕਰੀ ਭਿ ਆਖਿ ਕਰਾਈ ॥ एता ताणु होवै मन अंदरि करी भि आखि कराई ॥ Ėṯā ṯāṇ hovai man anḏar karī bẖė ākẖ karā▫ī. and if I were to possess so much power within my mind that I could cause others to do my bidding-so what? ਏਵਡੁ ਵਧਾ ਮਾਵਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਸਭਸੈ ਨਥਿ ਚਲਾਈ ॥ एवडु वधा मावा नाही सभसै नथि चलाई ॥ Ėvad vaḏẖā māvā nāhī sabẖsai nath cẖalā▫ī. and if I were to become so great that I could not be contained, and if I were to control and lead all; ਜੇਵਡੁ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਤੇਵਡ ਦਾਤੀ ਦੇ ਦੇ ਕਰੇ ਰਜਾਈ ॥ जेवडु साहिबु तेवड दाती दे दे करे रजाई ॥ Jevad sāhib ṯevad ḏāṯī ḏe ḏe kare rajā▫ī. As Great as our Lord and Master is, so great are His gifts. He bestows them according to His Will. ਨਾਨਕ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਉਪਰਿ ਸਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੧॥ नानक नदरि करे जिसु उपरि सचि नामि वडिआई ॥१॥ Nānak naḏar kare jis upar sacẖ nām vadi▫ā▫ī. ||1|| O Nanak, those upon whom the Lord casts His Glance of Grace, obtain the glorious greatness of the True Name. ||1||
