ਮਨ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣੁ ਨ ਸੁਝਈ ਨਾ ਸੁਝੈ ਦਰਬਾਰੁ ॥ मन आवण जाणु न सुझई ना सुझै दरबारु ॥ Man āvaṇ jāṇ na sujẖ▫ī nā sujẖai ḏarbār. The mortal being does not understand the comings and goings of reincarnation; he does not see the Court of the Lord. ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੪੧॥ नानक की प्रभ बेनती हरि भावै बखसि मिलाइ ॥४१॥ Nānak kī parabẖ benṯī har bẖāvai bakẖas milā▫e. ||41|| Nanak offers this prayer: O Lord God, please forgive me, and unite me with Yourself. ||41|| ਤਬ ਨਰੁ ਸੁਤਾ ਜਾਗਿਆ ਸਿਰਿ ਡੰਡੁ ਲਗਾ ਬਹੁ ਭਾਰੁ ॥ तब नरु सुता जागिआ सिरि डंडु लगा बहु भारु ॥ Ŧab nar suṯā jāgi▫ā sir dand lagā baho bẖār. The sleeping person wakes, only when he is hit on the head by a heavy club. ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਪਲੇਟਿਆ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ॥ माइआ मोहि पलेटिआ अंतरि अगिआनु गुबारु ॥ Mā▫i▫ā mohi paleti▫ā anṯar agi▫ān gubār. He is wrapped up in emotional attachment and Maya, and within his being is the darkness of ignorance. ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਕਰਾਂ ਉਪਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਚੇਤਿਆ ਸੇ ਪਾਇਨਿ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥ गुरमुखां करां उपरि हरि चेतिआ से पाइनि मोख दुआरु ॥ Gurmukẖāʼn karāʼn upar har cẖeṯi▫ā se pā▫in mokẖ ḏu▫ār. The Gurmukhs dwell upon the Lord; they find the door of salvation. ਨਾਨਕ ਆਪਿ ਓਹਿ ਉਧਰੇ ਸਭ ਕੁਟੰਬ ਤਰੇ ਪਰਵਾਰ ॥੪੨॥ नानक आपि ओहि उधरे सभ कुट्मब तरे परवार ॥४२॥ Nānak āp ohi uḏẖre sabẖ kutamb ṯare parvār. ||42|| O Nanak, they themselves are saved, and all their relatives are carried across as well. ||42|| ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਸੋ ਮੁਆ ਜਾਪੈ ॥ सबदि मरै सो मुआ जापै ॥ Sabaḏ marai so mu▫ā jāpai. Whoever dies in the Word of the Shabad, is known to be truly dead. ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਧ੍ਰਾਪੈ ॥ गुर परसादी हरि रसि ध्रापै ॥ Gur parsādī har ras ḏẖarāpai. By Guru's Grace, the mortal is satisfied by the sublime essence of the Lord. ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਿਞਾਪੈ ॥ हरि दरगहि गुर सबदि सिञापै ॥ Har ḏargahi gur sabaḏ siñāpai. Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, he is recognized in the Court of the Lord. ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਮੁਆ ਹੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥ बिनु सबदै मुआ है सभु कोइ ॥ Bin sabḏai mu▫ā hai sabẖ ko▫e. Without the Shabad, everyone is dead. ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਮੁਆ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਖੋਇ ॥ मनमुखु मुआ अपुना जनमु खोइ ॥ Manmukẖ mu▫ā apunā janam kẖo▫e. The self-willed manmukh dies; his life is wasted. ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਰੋਇ ॥ हरि नामु न चेतहि अंति दुखु रोइ ॥ Har nām na cẖīṯėh anṯ ḏukẖ ro▫e. Those who do not remember the Name of the Lord, shall cry in pain in the end. ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੁਢੇ ਕਦੇ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥ गुरमुखि बुढे कदे नाही जिन्हा अंतरि सुरति गिआनु ॥ Gurmukẖ budẖe kaḏe nāhī jinĥā anṯar suraṯ gi▫ān. The Gurmukhs never grow old; within them is intuitive understanding and spiritual wisdom. ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੪੩॥ नानक करता करे सु होइ ॥४३॥ Nānak karṯā kare so ho▫e. ||43|| O Nanak, whatever the Creator Lord does, comes to pass. ||43|| ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਰਵਹਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਹਜ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥ सदा सदा हरि गुण रवहि अंतरि सहज धिआनु ॥ Saḏā saḏā har guṇ ravėh anṯar sahj ḏẖi▫ān. They chant the Praises of the Lord, forever and ever; deep within, they intuitively meditate on the Lord. ਓਇ ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦਿ ਬਿਬੇਕ ਰਹਹਿ ਦੁਖਿ ਸੁਖਿ ਏਕ ਸਮਾਨਿ ॥ ओइ सदा अनंदि बिबेक रहहि दुखि सुखि एक समानि ॥ O▫e saḏā anand bibek rahėh ḏukẖ sukẖ ek samān. They dwell forever in blissful knowledge of the Lord; they look upon pain and pleasure as one and the same. ਤਿਨਾ ਨਦਰੀ ਇਕੋ ਆਇਆ ਸਭੁ ਆਤਮ ਰਾਮੁ ਪਛਾਨੁ ॥੪੪॥ तिना नदरी इको आइआ सभु आतम रामु पछानु ॥४४॥ Ŧinā naḏrī iko ā▫i▫ā sabẖ āṯam rām pacẖẖān. ||44|| They see the One Lord in all, and realize the Lord, the Supreme Soul of all. ||44|| ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਬਾਲਕੁ ਬਿਰਧਿ ਸਮਾਨਿ ਹੈ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਨਾਹੀ ॥ मनमुखु बालकु बिरधि समानि है जिन्हा अंतरि हरि सुरति नाही ॥ Manmukẖ bālak biraḏẖ samān hai jinĥā anṯar har suraṯ nāhī. The self-willed manmukhs are like stupid children; they do not keep the Lord in their thoughts. ਵਿਚਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਦੇ ਸਭ ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇ ਕੈ ਜਾਂਹੀ ॥ विचि हउमै करम कमावदे सभ धरम राइ कै जांही ॥ vicẖ ha▫umai karam kamāvḏe sabẖ ḏẖaram rā▫e kai jāʼnhī. They do all their deeds in egotism, and they must answer to the Righteous Judge of Dharma. ਓਨਾ ਮੈਲੁ ਪਤੰਗੁ ਨ ਲਗਈ ਜਿ ਚਲਨਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਇ ॥ ओना मैलु पतंगु न लगई जि चलनि सतिगुर भाइ ॥ Onā mail paṯang na lag▫ī jė cẖalan saṯgur bẖā▫e. Not even a tiny bit of filth sticks to them; they walk in harmony with the Will of the True Guru. ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਛੇ ਨਿਰਮਲੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥ गुरमुखि हछे निरमले गुर कै सबदि सुभाइ ॥ Gurmukẖ hacẖẖe nirmale gur kai sabaḏ subẖā▫e. The Gurmukhs are good and immaculately pure; they are embellished and exalted with the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ਮਨਮੁਖ ਜੂਠਿ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਜੇ ਸਉ ਧੋਵਣ ਪਾਇ ॥ मनमुख जूठि न उतरै जे सउ धोवण पाइ ॥ Manmukẖ jūṯẖ na uṯrai je sa▫o ḏẖovaṇ pā▫e. The filth of the manmukhs is not washed away, even if they wash hundreds of times. ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮੇਲਿਅਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਅੰਕਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੪੫॥ नानक गुरमुखि मेलिअनु गुर कै अंकि समाइ ॥४५॥ Nānak gurmukẖ meli▫an gur kai ank samā▫e. ||45|| O Nanak, the Gurmukhs are united with the Lord; they merge into the Guru's Being. ||45|| ਬੁਰਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਕੇਹਾ ਸਿਝੈ ॥ बुरा करे सु केहा सिझै ॥ Burā kare so kehā sijẖai. How can someone do bad things, and still live with himself? ਆਪਣੈ ਰੋਹਿ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਦਝੈ ॥ आपणै रोहि आपे ही दझै ॥ Āpṇai rohi āpe hī ḏajẖai. By his own anger, he only burns himself. ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਕਮਲਾ ਰਗੜੈ ਲੁਝੈ ॥ मनमुखि कमला रगड़ै लुझै ॥ Manmukẖ kamlā ragṛai lujẖai. The self-willed manmukh drives himself crazy with worries and stubborn struggles. ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਇ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਸੁਝੈ ॥ गुरमुखि होइ तिसु सभ किछु सुझै ॥ Gurmukẖ ho▫e ṯis sabẖ kicẖẖ sujẖai. But those who become Gurmukh understand everything. ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਨ ਸਿਉ ਲੁਝੈ ॥੪੬॥ नानक गुरमुखि मन सिउ लुझै ॥४६॥ Nānak gurmukẖ man si▫o lujẖai. ||46|| O Nanak, the Gurmukh struggles with his own mind. ||46|| ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਸੇਵਿਓ ਸਬਦਿ ਨ ਕੀਤੋ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥ जिना सतिगुरु पुरखु न सेविओ सबदि न कीतो वीचारु ॥ Jinā saṯgur purakẖ na sevi▫o sabaḏ na kīṯo vīcẖār. Those who do not serve the True Guru, the Primal Being, and do not reflect upon the Word of the Shabad - ਓਨਾ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਨ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਸਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥ ओना अंतरि गिआनु न धिआनु है हरि सउ प्रीति न पिआरु ॥ Onā anṯar gi▫ān na ḏẖi▫ān hai har sa▫o parīṯ na pi▫ār. They have no spiritual wisdom or meditation within their beings; they are not in love with the Lord. ਓਇ ਮਾਣਸ ਜੂਨਿ ਨ ਆਖੀਅਨਿ ਪਸੂ ਢੋਰ ਗਾਵਾਰ ॥ ओइ माणस जूनि न आखीअनि पसू ढोर गावार ॥ O▫e māṇas jūn na ākẖī▫an pasū dẖor gāvār. do not call them human beings; they are just animals and stupid beasts. ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੁਏ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਮਹਿ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਵਾਰੋ ਵਾਰ ॥ मनमुख मुए विकार महि मरि जमहि वारो वार ॥ Manmukẖ mu▫e vikār mėh mar jamėh vāro vār. The self-willed manmukhs die in evil and corruption; they die and are reborn, again and again. ਜੀਵਦਿਆ ਨੋ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੁ ਜੀਵਦੇ ਹਰਿ ਜਗਜੀਵਨ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥ जीवदिआ नो मिलै सु जीवदे हरि जगजीवन उर धारि ॥ Jīvḏi▫ā no milai so jīvḏe har jagjīvan ur ḏẖār. They alone live, who join with the living; enshrine the Lord, the Lord of Life, within your heart. ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਤਿਤੁ ਸਚੈ ਦਰਬਾਰਿ ॥੪੭॥ नानक गुरमुखि सोहणे तितु सचै दरबारि ॥४७॥ Nānak gurmukẖ sohṇe ṯiṯ sacẖai ḏarbār. ||47|| O Nanak, the Gurmukhs look beautiful in that Court of the True Lord. ||47|| ਹਰਿ ਮੰਦਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਜਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਵਸੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਲਿ ॥ हरि मंदरु हरि साजिआ हरि वसै जिसु नालि ॥ Har manḏar har sāji▫ā har vasai jis nāl. The Lord built the Harimandir, the Temple of the Lord; the Lord dwells within it. ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਪਰਜਾਲਿ ॥ गुरमती हरि पाइआ माइआ मोह परजालि ॥ Gurmaṯī har pā▫i▫ā mā▫i▫ā moh parjāl. Following the Guru's Teachings, I have found the Lord; my emotional attachment to Maya has been burnt away. ਹਰਿ ਮੰਦਰਿ ਵਸਤੁ ਅਨੇਕ ਹੈ ਨਵ ਨਿਧਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥ हरि मंदरि वसतु अनेक है नव निधि नामु समालि ॥ Har manḏar vasaṯ anek hai nav niḏẖ nām samāl. Countless things are in the Harimandir, the Temple of the Lord; contemplate the Naam, and the nine treasures will be yours. ਧਨੁ ਭਗਵੰਤੀ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਜਿਨਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਲਧਾ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਲਿ ॥ धनु भगवंती नानका जिना गुरमुखि लधा हरि भालि ॥ Ḏẖan bẖagvanṯī nānkā jinā gurmukẖ laḏẖā har bẖāl. Blessed is that happy soul-bride, O Nanak, who, as Gurmukh, seeks and finds the Lord. ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਗੜ ਮੰਦਰੁ ਖੋਜਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਾਲਿ ॥੪੮॥ वडभागी गड़ मंदरु खोजिआ हरि हिरदै पाइआ नालि ॥४८॥ vadbẖāgī gaṛ manḏar kẖoji▫ā har hirḏai pā▫i▫ā nāl. ||48|| By great good fortune, one searches the temple of the body-fortress, and finds the Lord within the heart. ||48|| ਮਨਮੁਖ ਦਹ ਦਿਸਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਰਹੇ ਅਤਿ ਤਿਸਨਾ ਲੋਭ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥ मनमुख दह दिसि फिरि रहे अति तिसना लोभ विकार ॥ Manmukẖ ḏah ḏis fir rahe aṯ ṯisnā lobẖ vikār. The self-willed manmukhs wander lost in the ten directions, led by intense desire, greed and corruption.
