ਕਬੀਰ ਕਾਇਆ ਕਾਚੀ ਕਾਰਵੀ ਕੇਵਲ ਕਾਚੀ ਧਾਤੁ ॥ कबीर काइआ काची कारवी केवल काची धातु ॥ Kabīr kā▫i▫ā kācẖī kārvī keval kācẖī ḏẖāṯ. Kabeer, the body is like a clay vessel or a brittle metal pot. ਸਾਬਤੁ ਰਖਹਿ ਤ ਰਾਮ ਭਜੁ ਨਾਹਿ ਤ ਬਿਨਠੀ ਬਾਤ ॥੨੨੨॥ साबतु रखहि त राम भजु नाहि त बिनठी बात ॥२२२॥ Sābaṯ rakẖėh ṯa rām bẖaj nāhi ṯa binṯẖī bāṯ. ||222|| If you wish to keep it safe and sound, then vibrate and meditate on the Lord; otherwise, the thing shall break. ||222|| ਕਬੀਰ ਕੇਸੋ ਕੇਸੋ ਕੂਕੀਐ ਨ ਸੋਈਐ ਅਸਾਰ ॥ कबीर केसो केसो कूकीऐ न सोईऐ असार ॥ Kabīr keso keso kūkī▫ai na so▫ī▫ai asār. Kabeer, chant the Name of the Beautifully-haired Lord; do not sleep unaware. ਰਾਤਿ ਦਿਵਸ ਕੇ ਕੂਕਨੇ ਕਬਹੂ ਕੇ ਸੁਨੈ ਪੁਕਾਰ ॥੨੨੩॥ राति दिवस के कूकने कबहू के सुनै पुकार ॥२२३॥ Rāṯ ḏivas ke kūkne kabhū ke sunai pukār. ||223|| Chanting His Name night and day, the Lord will eventually hear your call. ||223|| ਕਬੀਰ ਕਾਇਆ ਕਜਲੀ ਬਨੁ ਭਇਆ ਮਨੁ ਕੁੰਚਰੁ ਮਯ ਮੰਤੁ ॥ कबीर काइआ कजली बनु भइआ मनु कुंचरु मय मंतु ॥ Kabīr kā▫i▫ā kajlī ban bẖa▫i▫ā man kuncẖar ma▫y manṯ. Kabeer, the body is a banana forest, and the mind is an intoxicated elephant. ਅੰਕਸੁ ਗ੍ਯ੍ਯਾਨੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਹੈ ਖੇਵਟੁ ਬਿਰਲਾ ਸੰਤੁ ॥੨੨੪॥ अंकसु ग्यानु रतनु है खेवटु बिरला संतु ॥२२४॥ Ankas ga▫yān raṯan hai kẖevat birlā sanṯ. ||224|| The jewel of spiritual wisdom is the prod, and the rare Saint is the rider. ||224|| ਕਬੀਰ ਰਾਮ ਰਤਨੁ ਮੁਖੁ ਕੋਥਰੀ ਪਾਰਖ ਆਗੈ ਖੋਲਿ ॥ कबीर राम रतनु मुखु कोथरी पारख आगै खोलि ॥ Kabīr rām raṯan mukẖ kothrī pārakẖ āgai kẖol. Kabeer, the Lord's Name is the jewel, and the mouth is the purse; open this purse to the Appraiser. ਕੋਈ ਆਇ ਮਿਲੈਗੋ ਗਾਹਕੀ ਲੇਗੋ ਮਹਗੇ ਮੋਲਿ ॥੨੨੫॥ कोई आइ मिलैगो गाहकी लेगो महगे मोलि ॥२२५॥ Ko▫ī ā▫e milaigo gāhkī lego mahge mol. ||225|| If a buyer can be found, it will go for a high price. ||225|| ਕਬੀਰ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਾਨਿਓ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਲਿਓ ਕਟਕੁ ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ॥ कबीर राम नामु जानिओ नही पालिओ कटकु कुट्मबु ॥ Kabīr rām nām jāni▫o nahī pāli▫o katak kutamb. Kabeer, the mortal does not know the Lord's Name, but he has raised a very large family. ਧੰਧੇ ਹੀ ਮਹਿ ਮਰਿ ਗਇਓ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਭਈ ਨ ਬੰਬ ॥੨੨੬॥ धंधे ही महि मरि गइओ बाहरि भई न ब्मब ॥२२६॥ Ḏẖanḏẖe hī mėh mar ga▫i▫o bāhar bẖa▫ī na bamb. ||226|| He dies in the midst of his worldly affairs, and then he is not heard in the external world. ||226|| ਕਬੀਰ ਆਖੀ ਕੇਰੇ ਮਾਟੁਕੇ ਪਲੁ ਪਲੁ ਗਈ ਬਿਹਾਇ ॥ कबीर आखी केरे माटुके पलु पलु गई बिहाइ ॥ Kabīr ākẖī kere mātuke pal pal ga▫ī bihā▫e. Kabeer, in the blink of an eye, moment by moment, life is passing by. ਮਨੁ ਜੰਜਾਲੁ ਨ ਛੋਡਈ ਜਮ ਦੀਆ ਦਮਾਮਾ ਆਇ ॥੨੨੭॥ मनु जंजालु न छोडई जम दीआ दमामा आइ ॥२२७॥ Man janjāl na cẖẖod▫ī jam ḏī▫ā ḏamāmā ā▫e. ||227|| The mortal does not give up his worldly entanglements; the Messenger of Death walks in and beats the drum. ||227|| ਕਬੀਰ ਤਰਵਰ ਰੂਪੀ ਰਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਫਲ ਰੂਪੀ ਬੈਰਾਗੁ ॥ कबीर तरवर रूपी रामु है फल रूपी बैरागु ॥ Kabīr ṯarvar rūpī rām hai fal rūpī bairāg. Kabeer, the Lord is the tree, and disillusionment with the world is the fruit. ਕਬੀਰ ਐਸਾ ਬੀਜੁ ਬੋਇ ਬਾਰਹ ਮਾਸ ਫਲੰਤ ॥ कबीर ऐसा बीजु बोइ बारह मास फलंत ॥ Kabīr aisā bīj bo▫e bārah mās falanṯ. Kabeer, plant the seeds of such a plant, which shall bear fruit throughout the twelve months, ਛਾਇਆ ਰੂਪੀ ਸਾਧੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਤਜਿਆ ਬਾਦੁ ਬਿਬਾਦੁ ॥੨੨੮॥ छाइआ रूपी साधु है जिनि तजिआ बादु बिबादु ॥२२८॥ Cẖẖā▫i▫ā rūpī sāḏẖ hai jin ṯaji▫ā bāḏ bibāḏ. ||228|| The Holy man, who has abandoned useless arguments, is the shade of the tree. ||228|| ਸੀਤਲ ਛਾਇਆ ਗਹਿਰ ਫਲ ਪੰਖੀ ਕੇਲ ਕਰੰਤ ॥੨੨੯॥ सीतल छाइआ गहिर फल पंखी केल करंत ॥२२९॥ Sīṯal cẖẖā▫i▫ā gahir fal pankẖī kel karanṯ. ||229|| with cooling shade and abundant fruit, upon which birds joyously play. ||229|| ਕਬੀਰ ਦਾਤਾ ਤਰਵਰੁ ਦਯਾ ਫਲੁ ਉਪਕਾਰੀ ਜੀਵੰਤ ॥ कबीर दाता तरवरु दया फलु उपकारी जीवंत ॥ Kabīr ḏāṯā ṯarvar ḏa▫yā fal upkārī jīvanṯ. Kabeer, the Great Giver is the tree, which blesses all with the fruit of compassion. ਪੰਖੀ ਚਲੇ ਦਿਸਾਵਰੀ ਬਿਰਖਾ ਸੁਫਲ ਫਲੰਤ ॥੨੩੦॥ पंखी चले दिसावरी बिरखा सुफल फलंत ॥२३०॥ Pankẖī cẖale ḏisāvarī birkẖā sufal falanṯ. ||230|| When the birds migrate to other lands, O Tree, you bear the fruits. ||230|| ਕਬੀਰ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗੁ ਪਰਾਪਤੀ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੋਇ ਲਿਲਾਟ ॥ कबीर साधू संगु परापती लिखिआ होइ लिलाट ॥ Kabīr sāḏẖū sang parāpaṯī likẖi▫ā ho▫e lilāt. Kabeer, the mortal finds the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, if he has such destiny written upon his forehead. ਮੁਕਤਿ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਠਾਕ ਨ ਅਵਘਟ ਘਾਟ ॥੨੩੧॥ मुकति पदारथु पाईऐ ठाक न अवघट घाट ॥२३१॥ Mukaṯ paḏārath pā▫ī▫ai ṯẖāk na avgẖat gẖāt. ||231|| He obtains the treasure of liberation, and the difficult road to the Lord is not blocked. ||231|| ਕਬੀਰ ਏਕ ਘੜੀ ਆਧੀ ਘਰੀ ਆਧੀ ਹੂੰ ਤੇ ਆਧ ॥ कबीर एक घड़ी आधी घरी आधी हूं ते आध ॥ Kabīr ek gẖaṛī āḏẖī gẖarī āḏẖī hūʼn ṯe āḏẖ. Kabeer, whether is for an hour, half an hour, or half of that, ਭਗਤਨ ਸੇਤੀ ਗੋਸਟੇ ਜੋ ਕੀਨੇ ਸੋ ਲਾਭ ॥੨੩੨॥ भगतन सेती गोसटे जो कीने सो लाभ ॥२३२॥ Bẖagṯan seṯī goste jo kīne so lābẖ. ||232|| whatever it is, it is worthwhile to speak with the Holy. ||232|| ਕਬੀਰ ਭਾਂਗ ਮਾਛੁਲੀ ਸੁਰਾ ਪਾਨਿ ਜੋ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਖਾਂਹਿ ॥ कबीर भांग माछुली सुरा पानि जो जो प्रानी खांहि ॥ Kabīr bẖāʼng mācẖẖulī surā pān jo jo parānī kẖāʼnhi. Kabeer, those mortals who consume marijuana, fish and wine - ਤੀਰਥ ਬਰਤ ਨੇਮ ਕੀਏ ਤੇ ਸਭੈ ਰਸਾਤਲਿ ਜਾਂਹਿ ॥੨੩੩॥ तीरथ बरत नेम कीए ते सभै रसातलि जांहि ॥२३३॥ Ŧirath baraṯ nem kī▫e ṯe sabẖai rasāṯal jāʼnhi. ||233|| no matter what pilgrimages, fasts and rituals they follow, they will all go to hell. ||233|| ਨੀਚੇ ਲੋਇਨ ਕਰਿ ਰਹਉ ਲੇ ਸਾਜਨ ਘਟ ਮਾਹਿ ॥ नीचे लोइन करि रहउ ले साजन घट माहि ॥ Nīcẖe lo▫in kar raha▫o le sājan gẖat māhi. Kabeer, I keep my eyes lowered, and enshrine my Friend within my heart. ਸਭ ਰਸ ਖੇਲਉ ਪੀਅ ਸਉ ਕਿਸੀ ਲਖਾਵਉ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੨੩੪॥ सभ रस खेलउ पीअ सउ किसी लखावउ नाहि ॥२३४॥ Sabẖ ras kẖela▫o pī▫a sa▫o kisī lakẖāva▫o nāhi. ||234|| I enjoy all pleasures with my Beloved, but I do not let anyone else know. ||234|| ਨੀਚੇ ਲੋਇਨ ਕਿਉ ਕਰਉ ਸਭ ਘਟ ਦੇਖਉ ਪੀਉ ॥੨੩੫॥ नीचे लोइन किउ करउ सभ घट देखउ पीउ ॥२३५॥ Nīcẖe lo▫in ki▫o kara▫o sabẖ gẖat ḏekẖ▫a▫u pī▫o. ||235|| Why should I keep my eyes lowered? I see my Beloved in every heart. ||235|| ਆਠ ਜਾਮ ਚਉਸਠਿ ਘਰੀ ਤੁਅ ਨਿਰਖਤ ਰਹੈ ਜੀਉ ॥ आठ जाम चउसठि घरी तुअ निरखत रहै जीउ ॥ Āṯẖ jām cẖa▫usaṯẖ gẖarī ṯu▫a nirkẖaṯ rahai jī▫o. Twenty-four hours a day, every hour, my soul continues to look to You, O Lord. ਸੁਨੁ ਸਖੀ ਪੀਅ ਮਹਿ ਜੀਉ ਬਸੈ ਜੀਅ ਮਹਿ ਬਸੈ ਕਿ ਪੀਉ ॥ सुनु सखी पीअ महि जीउ बसै जीअ महि बसै कि पीउ ॥ Sun sakẖī pī▫a mėh jī▫o basai jī▫a mėh basai kė pī▫o. Listen, O my companions: my soul dwells in my Beloved, and my Beloved dwells in my soul. ਜੀਉ ਪੀਉ ਬੂਝਉ ਨਹੀ ਘਟ ਮਹਿ ਜੀਉ ਕਿ ਪੀਉ ॥੨੩੬॥ जीउ पीउ बूझउ नही घट महि जीउ कि पीउ ॥२३६॥ Jī▫o pī▫o būjẖa▫o nahī gẖat mėh jī▫o kė pī▫o. ||236|| I realize that there is no difference between my soul and my Beloved; I cannot tell whether my soul or my Beloved dwells in my heart. ||236|| ਕਬੀਰ ਬਾਮਨੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੈ ਜਗਤ ਕਾ ਭਗਤਨ ਕਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥ कबीर बामनु गुरू है जगत का भगतन का गुरु नाहि ॥ Kabīr bāman gurū hai jagaṯ kā bẖagṯan kā gur nāhi. Kabeer, the Brahmin may be the guru of the world, but he is not the Guru of the devotees. ਅਰਝਿ ਉਰਝਿ ਕੈ ਪਚਿ ਮੂਆ ਚਾਰਉ ਬੇਦਹੁ ਮਾਹਿ ॥੨੩੭॥ अरझि उरझि कै पचि मूआ चारउ बेदहु माहि ॥२३७॥ Arajẖ urajẖ kai pacẖ mū▫ā cẖāra▫o beḏahu māhi. ||237|| He rots and dies in the perplexities of the four Vedas. ||237|| ਹਰਿ ਹੈ ਖਾਂਡੁ ਰੇਤੁ ਮਹਿ ਬਿਖਰੀ ਹਾਥੀ ਚੁਨੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥ हरि है खांडु रेतु महि बिखरी हाथी चुनी न जाइ ॥ Har hai kẖāʼnd reṯ mėh bikẖrī hāthī cẖunī na jā▫e. The Lord is like sugar, scattered in the sand; the elephant cannot pick it up. ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਗੁਰਿ ਭਲੀ ਬੁਝਾਈ ਕੀਟੀ ਹੋਇ ਕੈ ਖਾਇ ॥੨੩੮॥ कहि कबीर गुरि भली बुझाई कीटी होइ कै खाइ ॥२३८॥ Kahi Kabīr gur bẖalī bujẖā▫ī kītī ho▫e kai kẖā▫e. ||238|| Says Kabeer, the Guru has given me this sublime understanding: become an ant, and feed on it. ||238|| ਕਬੀਰ ਜਉ ਤੁਹਿ ਸਾਧ ਪਿਰੰਮ ਕੀ ਸੀਸੁ ਕਾਟਿ ਕਰਿ ਗੋਇ ॥ कबीर जउ तुहि साध पिरम की सीसु काटि करि गोइ ॥ Kabīr ja▫o ṯuhi sāḏẖ piramm kī sīs kāt kar go▫e. Kabeer, if you desire to play the game of love with the Lord, then cut off your head, and make it into a ball. ਖੇਲਤ ਖੇਲਤ ਹਾਲ ਕਰਿ ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੋਇ ਤ ਹੋਇ ॥੨੩੯॥ खेलत खेलत हाल करि जो किछु होइ त होइ ॥२३९॥ Kẖelaṯ kẖelaṯ hāl kar jo kicẖẖ ho▫e ṯa ho▫e. ||239|| Lose yourself in the play of it, and then whatever will be, will be. ||239|| ਕਬੀਰ ਜਉ ਤੁਹਿ ਸਾਧ ਪਿਰੰਮ ਕੀ ਪਾਕੇ ਸੇਤੀ ਖੇਲੁ ॥ कबीर जउ तुहि साध पिरम की पाके सेती खेलु ॥ Kabīr ja▫o ṯuhi sāḏẖ piramm kī pāke seṯī kẖel. Kabeer, if you desire to play the game of love with the Lord, play it with someone with committment. ਕਾਚੀ ਸਰਸਉਂ ਪੇਲਿ ਕੈ ਨਾ ਖਲਿ ਭਈ ਨ ਤੇਲੁ ॥੨੪੦॥ काची सरसउं पेलि कै ना खलि भई न तेलु ॥२४०॥ Kācẖī sarsa▫uʼn pel kai nā kẖal bẖa▫ī na ṯel. ||240|| Pressing the unripe mustard seeds produces neither oil nor flour. ||240|| ਢੂੰਢਤ ਡੋਲਹਿ ਅੰਧ ਗਤਿ ਅਰੁ ਚੀਨਤ ਨਾਹੀ ਸੰਤ ॥ ढूंढत डोलहि अंध गति अरु चीनत नाही संत ॥ Dẖūʼndẖaṯ dolėh anḏẖ gaṯ ar cẖīnaṯ nāhī sanṯ. Searching, the mortal stumbles like a blind person, and does not recognize the Saint. ਕਹਿ ਨਾਮਾ ਕਿਉ ਪਾਈਐ ਬਿਨੁ ਭਗਤਹੁ ਭਗਵੰਤੁ ॥੨੪੧॥ कहि नामा किउ पाईऐ बिनु भगतहु भगवंतु ॥२४१॥ Kahi nāmā ki▫o pā▫ī▫ai bin bẖagṯahu bẖagvanṯ. ||241|| Says Naam Dayv, how can one obtain the Lord God, without His devotee? ||241|| ਹਰਿ ਸੋ ਹੀਰਾ ਛਾਡਿ ਕੈ ਕਰਹਿ ਆਨ ਕੀ ਆਸ ॥ हरि सो हीरा छाडि कै करहि आन की आस ॥ Har so hīrā cẖẖād kai karahi ān kī ās. Forsaking the Diamond of the Lord, the mortals put their hopes in another. ਤੇ ਨਰ ਦੋਜਕ ਜਾਹਿਗੇ ਸਤਿ ਭਾਖੈ ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ॥੨੪੨॥ ते नर दोजक जाहिगे सति भाखै रविदास ॥२४२॥ Ŧe nar ḏojak jāhige saṯ bẖākẖai Raviḏās. ||242|| Those people shall go to hell; Ravi Daas speaks the Truth. ||242|| ਕਬੀਰ ਜਉ ਗ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਤ ਧਰਮੁ ਕਰੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਤ ਕਰੁ ਬੈਰਾਗੁ ॥ कबीर जउ ग्रिहु करहि त धरमु करु नाही त करु बैरागु ॥ Kabīr ja▫o garihu karahi ṯa ḏẖaram kar nāhī ṯa kar bairāg. Kabeer, if you live the householder's life, then practice righteousness; otherwise, you might as well retire from the world. ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਬੰਧਨੁ ਕਰੈ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਬਡੋ ਅਭਾਗੁ ॥੨੪੩॥ बैरागी बंधनु करै ता को बडो अभागु ॥२४३॥ Bairāgī banḏẖan karai ṯā ko bado abẖāg. ||243|| If someone renounces the world, and then gets involved in worldly entanglements, he shall suffer terrible misfortune. ||243||
