ਨਚ ਦੁਰਲਭੰ ਧਨੰ ਰੂਪੰ ਨਚ ਦੁਰਲਭੰ ਸ੍ਵਰਗ ਰਾਜਨਹ
नच दुरलभं धनं रूपं नच दुरलभं स्वरग राजनह ॥
Nacẖ ḏurlabẖaʼn ḏanaʼn rūpaʼn nacẖ ḏurlabẖaʼn savarag rājnah.
Wealth and beauty are not so difficult to obtain. Paradise and royal power are not so difficult to obtain.

ਕੀਰਤਨੰ ਸਾਧਸੰਗੇਣ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਹ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟੰਤਿ ਜਮਦੂਤਨਹ ॥੩੪॥
कीरतनं साधसंगेण नानक नह द्रिसटंति जमदूतनह ॥३४॥
Kīraṯanaʼn sāḏẖsangeṇ Nānak nah ḏarisat▫aʼnṯ jamḏūṯnėh. ||34||
and sings the Kirtan of His Praises in the Saadh Sangat, O Nanak, shall never see the Messenger of Death. ||34||

ਨਚ ਦੁਰਲਭੰ ਭੋਜਨੰ ਬਿੰਜਨੰ ਨਚ ਦੁਰਲਭੰ ਸ੍ਵਛ ਅੰਬਰਹ
नच दुरलभं भोजनं बिंजनं नच दुरलभं स्वछ अम्बरह ॥
Nacẖ ḏurlabẖaʼn bẖojanaʼn biʼnjanaʼn nacẖ ḏurlabẖaʼn savacẖẖ ambrėh.
Foods and delicacies are not so difficult to obtain. Elegant clothes are not so difficult to obtain.

ਨਚ ਦੁਰਲਭੰ ਸੁਤ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਭ੍ਰਾਤ ਬਾਂਧਵ ਨਚ ਦੁਰਲਭੰ ਬਨਿਤਾ ਬਿਲਾਸਹ
नच दुरलभं सुत मित्र भ्रात बांधव नच दुरलभं बनिता बिलासह ॥
Nacẖ ḏurlabẖaʼn suṯ miṯar bẖarāṯ bāʼnḏẖav nacẖ ḏurlabẖaʼn baniṯā bilāsėh.
Children, friends, siblings and relatives are not so difficult to obtain. The pleasures of woman are not so difficult to obtain.

ਨਚ ਦੁਰਲਭੰ ਬਿਦਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਬੀਣੰ ਨਚ ਦੁਰਲਭੰ ਚਤੁਰ ਚੰਚਲਹ
नच दुरलभं बिदिआ प्रबीणं नच दुरलभं चतुर चंचलह ॥
Nacẖ ḏurlabẖaʼn biḏi▫ā parbīṇaʼn nacẖ ḏurlabẖaʼn cẖaṯur cẖancẖlėh.
Knowledge and wisdom are not so difficult to obtain. Cleverness and trickery are not so difficult to obtain.

ਦੁਰਲਭੰ ਏਕ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਨਾਮਹ ਨਾਨਕ ਲਬਧ੍ਯ੍ਯਿੰ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੰ ॥੩੫॥
दुरलभं एक भगवान नामह नानक लबध्यिं साधसंगि क्रिपा प्रभं ॥३५॥
Ḏurlabẖaʼn ek bẖagvān nāmah Nānak labḏẖi▫yaʼn sāḏẖsang kirpā parabẖaʼn. ||35||
Only the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is difficult to obtain. O Nanak, it is only obtained by God's Grace, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||35||

ਜਤ ਕਤਹ ਤਤਹ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟੰ ਸ੍ਵਰਗ ਮਰਤ ਪਯਾਲ ਲੋਕਹ
जत कतह ततह द्रिसटं स्वरग मरत पयाल लोकह ॥
Jaṯ kaṯah ṯaṯah ḏaristaʼn savarag maraṯ pa▫yāl lokah.
Wherever I look, I see the Lord, whether in this world, in paradise, or the nether regions of the underworld.

ਸਰਬਤ੍ਰ ਰਮਣੰ ਗੋਬਿੰਦਹ ਨਾਨਕ ਲੇਪ ਛੇਪ ਲਿਪ੍ਯ੍ਯਤੇ ॥੩੬॥
सरबत्र रमणं गोबिंदह नानक लेप छेप न लिप्यते ॥३६॥
Sarbaṯar ramṇaʼn gobinḏah Nānak lep cẖẖep na lip▫yaṯai. ||36||
The Lord of the Universe is All-pervading everywhere. O Nanak, no blame or stain sticks to Him. ||36||

ਬਿਖਯਾ ਭਯੰਤਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੰ ਦ੍ਰੁਸਟਾਂ ਸਖਾ ਸ੍ਵਜਨਹ
बिखया भयंति अम्रितं द्रुसटां सखा स्वजनह ॥
Bikẖyā bẖa▫yanṯ amriṯaʼn ḏarustāʼn sakẖā savajniĥ.
Poison is transformed into nectar, and enemies into friends and companions.

ਦੁਖੰ ਭਯੰਤਿ ਸੁਖ੍ਯ੍ਯੰ ਭੈ ਭੀਤੰ ਨਿਰਭਯਹ
दुखं भयंति सुख्यं भै भीतं त निरभयह ॥
Ḏukẖaʼn bẖa▫yanṯ sukẖ▫yaʼn bẖai bẖīṯaʼn ṯa nirabẖyėh.
Pain is changed into pleasure, and the fearful become fearless.

ਥਾਨ ਬਿਹੂਨ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੰ ਨਾਨਕ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰਹ ॥੩੭॥
थान बिहून बिस्राम नामं नानक क्रिपाल हरि हरि गुरह ॥३७॥
Thān bihūn bisrām nāmaʼn Nānak kirpāl har har gurah. ||37||
Those who have no home or place find their place of rest in the Naam, O Nanak, when the Guru, the Lord, becomes Merciful. ||37||

ਸਰਬ ਸੀਲ ਮਮੰ ਸੀਲੰ ਸਰਬ ਪਾਵਨ ਮਮ ਪਾਵਨਹ
सरब सील ममं सीलं सरब पावन मम पावनह ॥
Sarab sīl mamaʼn sīlaʼn sarab pāvan mam pāvnah.
He blesses all with humility; He has blessed me with humility as well. He purifies all, and He has purified me as well.

ਸਰਬ ਕਰਤਬ ਮਮੰ ਕਰਤਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਲੇਪ ਛੇਪ ਲਿਪ੍ਯ੍ਯਤੇ ॥੩੮॥
सरब करतब ममं करता नानक लेप छेप न लिप्यते ॥३८॥
Sarab karṯab mamaʼn karṯā Nānak lep cẖẖep na lip▫yaṯai. ||38||
The Creator of all is the Creator of me as well. O Nanak, no blame or stain sticks to Him. ||38||

ਨਹ ਸੀਤਲੰ ਚੰਦ੍ਰ ਦੇਵਹ ਨਹ ਸੀਤਲੰ ਬਾਵਨ ਚੰਦਨਹ
नह सीतलं चंद्र देवह नह सीतलं बावन चंदनह ॥
Nah sīṯlaʼn cẖanḏar ḏevah nah sīṯlaʼn bāvan cẖandnah.
The moon-god is not cool and calm, nor is the white sandalwood tree.

ਨਹ ਸੀਤਲੰ ਸੀਤ ਰੁਤੇਣ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੀਤਲੰ ਸਾਧ ਸ੍ਵਜਨਹ ॥੩੯॥
नह सीतलं सीत रुतेण नानक सीतलं साध स्वजनह ॥३९॥
Nah sīṯlaʼn sīṯ ruṯeṇ Nānak sīṯlaʼn sāḏẖ savajniĥ. ||39||
The winter season is not cool; O Nanak, only the Holy friends, the Saints, are cool and calm. ||39||

ਮੰਤ੍ਰੰ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੰ ਧ੍ਯ੍ਯਾਨੰ ਸਰਬਤ੍ਰ ਪੂਰਨਹ
मंत्रं राम राम नामं ध्यानं सरबत्र पूरनह ॥
Manṯraʼn rām rām nāmaʼn ḏẖa▫yāna sarbaṯar pūrnah.
Through the Mantra of the Name of the Lord, Raam, Raam, one meditates on the All-pervading Lord.

ਗ੍ਯ੍ਯਾਨੰ ਸਮ ਦੁਖ ਸੁਖੰ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਿਰਵੈਰਣਹ
ग्यानं सम दुख सुखं जुगति निरमल निरवैरणह ॥
Ga▫yāna sam ḏukẖ sukẖaʼn jugaṯ nirmal nirvairṇėh.
Those who have the wisdom to look alike upon pleasure and pain, live the immaculate lifestyle, free of vengeance.

ਭੋਜਨੰ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਕੀਰਤਨੰ ਅਲਪ ਮਾਯਾ ਜਲ ਕਮਲ ਰਹਤਹ
भोजनं गोपाल कीरतनं अलप माया जल कमल रहतह ॥
Bẖojanaʼn gopāl kīraṯanaʼn alap mā▫yā jal kamal rahṯah.
They take the Kirtan of the Lord's Praise as their food; they remain untouched by Maya, like the lotus in the water.

ਦਯਾਲੰ ਸਰਬਤ੍ਰ ਜੀਆ ਪੰਚ ਦੋਖ ਬਿਵਰਜਿਤਹ
दयालं सरबत्र जीआ पंच दोख बिवरजितह ॥
Ḏa▫yālaʼn sarbaṯar jī▫ā pancẖ ḏokẖ bivarjiṯėh.
They are kind to all beings; they have overpowered the five thieves.

ਉਪਦੇਸੰ ਸਮ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਸਤ੍ਰਹ ਭਗਵੰਤ ਭਗਤਿ ਭਾਵਨੀ
उपदेसं सम मित्र सत्रह भगवंत भगति भावनी ॥
Upḏesaʼn sam miṯar saṯrėh bẖagvanṯ bẖagaṯ bẖāvnī.
They share the Teachings with friend and enemy alike; they love the devotional worship of God.

ਪਰ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਨਹ ਸ੍ਰੋਤਿ ਸ੍ਰਵਣੰ ਆਪੁ ਤ੍ਯ੍ਯਿਾਗਿ ਸਗਲ ਰੇਣੁਕਹ
पर निंदा नह स्रोति स्रवणं आपु त्यिागि सगल रेणुकह ॥
Par ninḏā nah saroṯ sarvaṇaʼn āp ṯi▫yāg sagal reṇukėh.
They do not listen to slander; renouncing self-conceit, they become the dust of all.

ਖਟ ਲਖ੍ਯ੍ਯਣ ਪੂਰਨੰ ਪੁਰਖਹ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਸਾਧ ਸ੍ਵਜਨਹ ॥੪੦॥
खट लख्यण पूरनं पुरखह नानक नाम साध स्वजनह ॥४०॥
Kẖat lakẖ▫yaṇ pūranaʼn purkẖah Nānak nām sāḏẖ savajneh. ||40||
Whoever has these six qualities, O Nanak, is called a Holy friend. ||40||

ਅਜਾ ਭੋਗੰਤ ਕੰਦ ਮੂਲੰ ਬਸੰਤੇ ਸਮੀਪਿ ਕੇਹਰਹ
अजा भोगंत कंद मूलं बसंते समीपि केहरह ॥
Ajā bẖoganṯ kanḏ mūlaʼn basanṯe samīp kehrah.
The goat enjoys eating fruits and roots, but if it lives near a tiger, it is always anxious.

ਤਤ੍ਰ ਗਤੇ ਸੰਸਾਰਹ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋਗ ਹਰਖੰ ਬਿਆਪਤੇ ॥੪੧॥
तत्र गते संसारह नानक सोग हरखं बिआपते ॥४१॥
Ŧaṯar gaṯe sansārah Nānak sog harkẖaʼn bi▫āpaṯe. ||41||
This is the condition of the world, O Nanak; it is afflicted by pleasure and pain. ||41||

ਛਲੰ ਛਿਦ੍ਰੰ ਕੋਟਿ ਬਿਘਨੰ ਅਪਰਾਧੰ ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਮਲੰ
छलं छिद्रं कोटि बिघनं अपराधं किलबिख मलं ॥
Cẖẖalaʼn cẖẖiḏaraʼn kot bigẖanaʼn aprāḏẖaʼn kilbikẖ malaʼn.
Fraud, false accusations, millions of diseases, sins and the filthy residues of evil mistakes;

ਭਰਮ ਮੋਹੰ ਮਾਨ ਅਪਮਾਨੰ ਮਦੰ ਮਾਯਾ ਬਿਆਪਿਤੰ
भरम मोहं मान अपमानं मदं माया बिआपितं ॥
Bẖaram mohaʼn mān apmānaʼn maḏaʼn mā▫yā bi▫āpiṯaʼn.
doubt, emotional attachment, pride, dishonor and intoxication with Maya -

ਨਿਰਮਲੰ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਹ ਜਪੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਨਾਮੰ
निरमलं साध संगह जपंति नानक गोपाल नामं ॥
Nirmalaʼn sāḏẖ sangah japanṯ Nānak gopāl nāmaʼn.
Chanting and meditating on the Name of the Lord in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, O Nanak, mortals become immaculate and pure.

ਮ੍ਰਿਤ੍ਯ੍ਯੁ ਜਨਮ ਭ੍ਰਮੰਤਿ ਨਰਕਹ ਅਨਿਕ ਉਪਾਵੰ ਸਿਧ੍ਯ੍ਯਤੇ
म्रित्यु जनम भ्रमंति नरकह अनिक उपावं न सिध्यते ॥
Miṯar▫yo janam bẖarmanṯ narkah anik upāvaʼn na siḏẖ▫yaṯai.
these lead mortals to death and rebirth, wandering lost in hell. In spite of all sorts of efforts, salvation is not found.

ਰਮੰਤਿ ਗੁਣ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਨਿਤ ਪ੍ਰਤਹ ॥੪੨॥
रमंति गुण गोबिंद नित प्रतह ॥४२॥
Ramanṯ guṇ gobinḏ niṯ parṯėh. ||42||
They continually dwell upon the Glorious Praises of God. ||42||

ਤਰਣ ਸਰਣ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਰਮਣ ਸੀਲ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰਹ
तरण सरण सुआमी रमण सील परमेसुरह ॥
Ŧaraṇ saraṇ su▫āmī ramaṇ sīl parmesurėh.
In the Sanctuary of the Kind-hearted Lord, our Transcendent Lord and Master, we are carried across.

ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਸਮਰਥਹ ਦਾਨੁ ਦੇਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪੂਰਨਹ
करण कारण समरथह दानु देत प्रभु पूरनह ॥
Karaṇ kāraṇ samarthėh ḏān ḏeṯ parabẖ pūrnah.
God is the Perfect, All-powerful Cause of causes; He is the Giver of gifts.

ਨਿਰਾਸ ਆਸ ਕਰਣੰ ਸਗਲ ਅਰਥ ਆਲਯਹ
निरास आस करणं सगल अरथ आलयह ॥
Nirās ās karṇaʼn sagal arath ālyėh.
He gives hope to the hopeless. He is the Source of all riches.

ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਸਿਮਰੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਗਲ ਜਾਚੰਤ ਜਾਚਿਕਹ ॥੪੩॥
गुण निधान सिमरंति नानक सगल जाचंत जाचिकह ॥४३॥
Guṇ niḏẖān simranṯ Nānak sagal jācẖanṯ jācẖikėh. ||43||
Nanak meditates in remembrance on the Treasure of Virtue; we are all beggars, begging at His Door. ||43||

ਦੁਰਗਮ ਸਥਾਨ ਸੁਗਮੰ ਮਹਾ ਦੂਖ ਸਰਬ ਸੂਖਣਹ
दुरगम सथान सुगमं महा दूख सरब सूखणह ॥
Ḏurgam sathān sugamaʼn mahā ḏūkẖ sarab sūkẖ▫ṇah.
The most difficult place becomes easy, and the worst pain turns into pleasure.

ਦੁਰਬਚਨ ਭੇਦ ਭਰਮੰ ਸਾਕਤ ਪਿਸਨੰ ਸੁਰਜਨਹ
दुरबचन भेद भरमं साकत पिसनं त सुरजनह ॥
Ḏurbacẖan bẖeḏ bẖaramaʼn sākaṯ pisanaʼn ṯa surajnėh.
Evil words, differences and doubts are obliterated, and even faithless cynics and malicious gossips become good people.

ਅਸਥਿਤੰ ਸੋਗ ਹਰਖੰ ਭੈ ਖੀਣੰ ਨਿਰਭਵਹ
असथितं सोग हरखं भै खीणं त निरभवह ॥
Asthiṯaʼn sog harkẖaʼn bẖai kẖīṇaʼn ṯa nirabẖvėh.
They become steady and stable, whether happy or sad; their fears are taken away, and they are fearless.
