ਖਾਇਆ ਮੈਲੁ ਵਧਾਇਆ ਪੈਧੈ ਘਰ ਕੀ ਹਾਣਿ ॥ खाइआ मैलु वधाइआ पैधै घर की हाणि ॥ Kẖā▫i▫ā mail vaḏẖā▫i▫ā paiḏẖai gẖar kī hāṇ. Eating too much, one's filth only increases; wearing fancy clothes, one's home is disgraced. ਪ੍ਰਭਾਤੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥ प्रभाती महला १ ॥ Parbẖāṯī mėhlā 1. Prabhaatee, First Mehl: ਬਾਬਾ ਐਸਾ ਬਿਖਮ ਜਾਲਿ ਮਨੁ ਵਾਸਿਆ ॥ बाबा ऐसा बिखम जालि मनु वासिआ ॥ Bābā aisā bikẖam jāl man vāsi▫ā. O Baba, such is the treacherous trap which has caught my mind; ਬਕਿ ਬਕਿ ਵਾਦੁ ਚਲਾਇਆ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਬਿਖੁ ਜਾਣਿ ॥੧॥ बकि बकि वादु चलाइआ बिनु नावै बिखु जाणि ॥१॥ Bak bak vāḏ cẖalā▫i▫ā bin nāvai bikẖ jāṇ. ||1|| Talking too much, one only starts arguments. Without the Name, everything is poison - know this well. ||1|| ਬਿਬਲੁ ਝਾਗਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਪਰਗਾਸਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ बिबलु झागि सहजि परगासिआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ Bibal jẖāg sahj pargāsi▫ā. ||1|| rahā▫o. riding out the waves of the storm, it will be enlightened by intuitive wisdom. ||1||Pause|| ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਣਾ ਬਿਖੁ ਬੋਲਣਾ ਬਿਖੁ ਕੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਇ ॥ बिखु खाणा बिखु बोलणा बिखु की कार कमाइ ॥ Bikẖ kẖāṇā bikẖ bolṇā bikẖ kī kār kamā▫e. They eat poison, speak poison and do poisonous deeds. ਜਮ ਦਰਿ ਬਾਧੇ ਮਾਰੀਅਹਿ ਛੂਟਸਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਨਾਇ ॥੨॥ जम दरि बाधे मारीअहि छूटसि साचै नाइ ॥२॥ Jam ḏar bāḏẖe mārī▫ah cẖẖūtas sācẖai nā▫e. ||2|| Bound and gagged at Death's door, they are punished; they can be saved only through the True Name. ||2|| ਜਿਵ ਆਇਆ ਤਿਵ ਜਾਇਸੀ ਕੀਆ ਲਿਖਿ ਲੈ ਜਾਇ ॥ जिव आइआ तिव जाइसी कीआ लिखि लै जाइ ॥ Jiv ā▫i▫ā ṯiv jā▫isī kī▫ā likẖ lai jā▫e. As they come, they go. Their actions are recorded, and go along with them. ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਮੂਲੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਦਰਗਹ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਜਾਇ ॥੩॥ मनमुखि मूलु गवाइआ दरगह मिलै सजाइ ॥३॥ Manmukẖ mūl gavā▫i▫ā ḏargėh milai sajā▫e. ||3|| The self-willed manmukh loses his capital, and is punished in the Court of the Lord. ||3|| ਜਗੁ ਖੋਟੌ ਸਚੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੌ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀਂ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥ जगु खोटौ सचु निरमलौ गुर सबदीं वीचारि ॥ Jag kẖotou sacẖ nirmalou gur sabḏīʼn vīcẖār. The world is false and polluted; only the True One is Pure. Contemplate Him through the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ਤੇ ਨਰ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਜਾਣੀਅਹਿ ਜਿਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ॥੪॥ ते नर विरले जाणीअहि जिन अंतरि गिआनु मुरारि ॥४॥ Ŧe nar virle jāṇī▫ahi jin anṯar gi▫ān murār. ||4|| Those who have God's spiritual wisdom within, are known to be very rare. ||4|| ਅਜਰੁ ਜਰੈ ਨੀਝਰੁ ਝਰੈ ਅਮਰ ਅਨੰਦ ਸਰੂਪ ॥ अजरु जरै नीझरु झरै अमर अनंद सरूप ॥ Ajar jarai nījẖar jẖarai amar anand sarūp. They endure the unendurable, and the Nectar of the Lord, the Embodiment of Bliss, trickles into them continuously. ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜਲ ਕੌ ਮੀਨੁ ਸੈ ਥੇ ਭਾਵੈ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥੫॥੧੩॥ नानकु जल कौ मीनु सै थे भावै राखहु प्रीति ॥५॥१३॥ Nānak jal kou mīn sai the bẖāvai rākẖo parīṯ. ||5||13|| O Nanak, the fish is in love with the water; if it pleases You, Lord, please enshrine such love within me. ||5||13||
