ਕੁਲਹਾਂ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਬਾਵਲੇ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਵਡੇ ਨਿਲਜ ॥ कुलहां देंदे बावले लैंदे वडे निलज ॥ Kulhāʼn ḏeʼnḏe bāvle laiʼnḏe vade nilaj. Those who give out ceremonial hats of recognition are fools; those who receive them have no shame. ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੧ ॥ सलोक मः १ ॥ Salok mėhlā 1. Shalok, Third Mehl: ਦੇਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਦੁਆਈ ਸੇ ਮਰਹਿ ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਦੇਨਿ ਸਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥ देन्हि दुआई से मरहि जिन कउ देनि सि जाहि ॥ Ḏeniĥ ḏu▫ā▫ī se marėh jin ka▫o ḏen sė jāhi. Those who give out blessings shall die, and those that they bless shall also depart. ਚੂਹਾ ਖਡ ਨ ਮਾਵਈ ਤਿਕਲਿ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੈ ਛਜ ॥ चूहा खड न मावई तिकलि बंन्है छज ॥ Cẖūhā kẖad na māv▫ī ṯikal banĥai cẖẖaj. The mouse cannot enter its hole with a basket tied around its waist. ਫਸਲਿ ਅਹਾੜੀ ਏਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਾਵਣੀ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਉ ॥ फसलि अहाड़ी एकु नामु सावणी सचु नाउ ॥ Fasal ahāṛī ek nām sāvṇī sacẖ nā▫o. The spring harvest is the Name of the One Lord; the harvest of autumn is the True Name. ਨਾਨਕ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਪਈ ਕਿਥੈ ਜਾਇ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥ नानक हुकमु न जापई किथै जाइ समाहि ॥ Nānak hukam na jāp▫ī kithai jā▫e samāhi. O Nanak, no one knows the Lord's Command, by which all must depart. ਮੈ ਮਹਦੂਦੁ ਲਿਖਾਇਆ ਖਸਮੈ ਕੈ ਦਰਿ ਜਾਇ ॥ मै महदूदु लिखाइआ खसमै कै दरि जाइ ॥ Mai mėhḏūḏ likẖā▫i▫ā kẖasmai kai ḏar jā▫e. I receive a letter of pardon from my Lord and Master, when I reach His Court. ਦੁਨੀਆ ਕੇ ਦਰ ਕੇਤੜੇ ਕੇਤੇ ਆਵਹਿ ਜਾਂਹਿ ॥ दुनीआ के दर केतड़े केते आवहि जांहि ॥ Ḏunī▫ā ke ḏar keṯ▫ṛe keṯe āvahi jāʼnhi. There are so many courts of the world, and so many who come and go there. ਕੇਤੇ ਮੰਗਹਿ ਮੰਗਤੇ ਕੇਤੇ ਮੰਗਿ ਮੰਗਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ केते मंगहि मंगते केते मंगि मंगि जाहि ॥१॥ Keṯe mangėh mangṯe keṯe mang mang jāhi. ||1|| There are so many beggars begging; so many beg and beg until death. ||1||
