ਬੇਦੁ ਪੁਕਾਰੇ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਪਾਪੁ ਸੁਰਗ ਨਰਕ ਕਾ ਬੀਉ ॥ बेदु पुकारे पुंनु पापु सुरग नरक का बीउ ॥ Beḏ pukāre punn pāp surag narak kā bī▫o. The Vedas proclaim that vice and virtue are the seeds of heaven and hell. ਮਃ ੧ ॥ मः १ ॥ Mėhlā 1. First Mehl: ਗਿਆਨੁ ਸਲਾਹੇ ਵਡਾ ਕਰਿ ਸਚੋ ਸਚਾ ਨਾਉ ॥ गिआनु सलाहे वडा करि सचो सचा नाउ ॥ Gi▫ān salāhe vadā kar sacẖo sacẖā nā▫o. Whoever praises spiritual wisdom as great, becomes truthful in the True Name. ਸਚੁ ਬੀਜੈ ਸਚੁ ਉਗਵੈ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਾਈਐ ਥਾਉ ॥ सचु बीजै सचु उगवै दरगह पाईऐ थाउ ॥ Sacẖ bījai sacẖ ugvai ḏargėh pā▫ī▫ai thā▫o. When Truth is planted, Truth grows. In the Court of the Lord, you shall find your place of honor. ਜੋ ਬੀਜੈ ਸੋ ਉਗਵੈ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਜਾਣੈ ਜੀਉ ॥ जो बीजै सो उगवै खांदा जाणै जीउ ॥ Jo bījai so ugvai kẖāʼnḏā jāṇai jī▫o. Whatever is planted, shall grow. The soul eats the fruits of its actions, and understands. ਬੇਦੁ ਵਪਾਰੀ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਰਾਸਿ ਕਰਮੀ ਪਲੈ ਹੋਇ ॥ बेदु वपारी गिआनु रासि करमी पलै होइ ॥ Beḏ vapārī gi▫ān rās karmī palai ho▫e. The Vedas are only merchants; spiritual wisdom is the capital; by His Grace, it is received. ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਸੀ ਬਾਹਰਾ ਲਦਿ ਨ ਚਲਿਆ ਕੋਇ ॥੨॥ नानक रासी बाहरा लदि न चलिआ कोइ ॥२॥ Nānak rāsī bāhrā laḏ na cẖali▫ā ko▫e. ||2|| O Nanak, without capital, no one has ever departed with profit. ||2||
