ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੧ ॥ सलोक मः १ ॥ Salok mėhlā 1. Shalok, First Mehl: ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਣ ਪੜ੍ਹ੍ਹੰਤਾ ॥ सासत्र बेद पुराण पड़्हंता ॥ Sāsṯar beḏ purāṇ paṛĥaʼnṯā. Some read the Shaastras, the Vedas and the Puraanas. ਨਾਨਕੁ ਆਖੈ ਕੂਕ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥ नानकु आखै कूक न होई ॥१॥ Nānak ākẖai kūk na ho▫ī. ||1|| Nanak says, there is no need to shout so loud. ||1|| ਪੂਕਾਰੰਤਾ ਅਜਾਣੰਤਾ ॥ पूकारंता अजाणंता ॥ Pūkāranṯā ajāṇanṯā. They recite them, out of ignorance. ਜਾਂ ਬੂਝੈ ਤਾਂ ਸੂਝੈ ਸੋਈ ॥ जां बूझै तां सूझै सोई ॥ Jāʼn būjẖai ṯāʼn sūjẖai so▫ī. If they really understood them, they would realize the Lord.
