ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥ माझ महला ३ ॥ Maajʰ mėhlaa 3. Maajh, Third Mehl: ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਆਪੇ ॥ गुरमुखि मिलै मिलाए आपे ॥ Gurmukʰ milæ milaa▫é aapé. The Gurmukhs meet the Lord, and inspire others to meet Him as well. ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਬੰਧਨ ਸਭ ਤੋੜੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ हउमै मारि बंधन सभ तोड़ै गुरमुखि सबदि सुहावणिआ ॥१॥ Ha▫umæ maar banḋʰan sabʰ ṫoṛæ gurmukʰ sabaḋ suhaavaṇi▫aa. ||1|| Subduing egotism, they break all their bonds; as Gurmukh, they are adorned with the Word of the Shabad. ||1|| ਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਜੋਹੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਸੰਤਾਪੇ ॥ कालु न जोहै दुखु न संतापे ॥ Kaal na johæ ḋukʰ na sanṫaapé. Death does not see them, and pain does not afflict them. ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸੁਹਾਵਣਿਆ ॥ हउ वारी जीउ वारी हरि हरि नामि सुहावणिआ ॥ Ha▫o vaaree jee▫o vaaree har har naam suhaavaṇi▫aa. I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those who look beautiful in the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਾਵੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਚੈ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ गुरमुखि गावै गुरमुखि नाचै हरि सेती चितु लावणिआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ Gurmukʰ gaavæ gurmukʰ naachæ har séṫee chiṫ laavaṇi▫aa. ||1|| rahaa▫o. The Gurmukhs sing, the Gurmukhs dance, and focus their consciousness on the Lord. ||1||Pause|| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜੀਵੈ ਮਰੈ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥ गुरमुखि जीवै मरै परवाणु ॥ Gurmukʰ jeevæ maræ parvaaṇ. The Gurmukhs are celebrated in life and death. ਆਰਜਾ ਨ ਛੀਜੈ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਣੁ ॥ आरजा न छीजै सबदु पछाणु ॥ Aarjaa na chʰeejæ sabaḋ pachʰaaṇ. Their lives are not wasted; they realize the Word of the Shabad. ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਖਾਏ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥ गुरमुखि मरै न कालु न खाए गुरमुखि सचि समावणिआ ॥२॥ Gurmukʰ maræ na kaal na kʰaa▫é gurmukʰ sach samaavaṇi▫aa. ||2|| The Gurmukhs do not die; they are not consumed by death. The Gurmukhs are absorbed in the True Lord. ||2|| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਏ ॥ गुरमुखि हरि दरि सोभा पाए ॥ Gurmukʰ har ḋar sobʰaa paa▫é. The Gurmukhs are honored in the Court of the Lord. ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥ गुरमुखि विचहु आपु गवाए ॥ Gurmukʰ vichahu aap gavaa▫é. The Gurmukhs eradicate selfishness and conceit from within. ਆਪਿ ਤਰੈ ਕੁਲ ਸਗਲੇ ਤਾਰੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਵਾਰਣਿਆ ॥੩॥ आपि तरै कुल सगले तारे गुरमुखि जनमु सवारणिआ ॥३॥ Aap ṫaræ kul saglé ṫaaré gurmukʰ janam savaarṇi▫aa. ||3|| They save themselves, and save all their families and ancestors as well. The Gurmukhs redeem their lives. ||3|| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਲਗੈ ਸਰੀਰਿ ॥ गुरमुखि दुखु कदे न लगै सरीरि ॥ Gurmukʰ ḋukʰ kaḋé na lagæ sareer. The Gurmukhs never suffer bodily pain. ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਫਿਰਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥ गुरमुखि मनु निरमलु फिरि मैलु न लागै गुरमुखि सहजि समावणिआ ॥४॥ Gurmukʰ man nirmal fir mæl na laagæ gurmukʰ sahj samaavaṇi▫aa. ||4|| The minds of the Gurmukhs are immaculate and pure; no filth ever sticks to them again. The Gurmukhs merge in celestial peace. ||4|| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਚੂਕੈ ਪੀਰ ॥ गुरमुखि हउमै चूकै पीर ॥ Gurmukʰ ha▫umæ chookæ peer. The Gurmukhs have the pain of egotism taken away. ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥ गुरमुखि नामु मिलै वडिआई ॥ Gurmukʰ naam milæ vadi▫aa▫ee. The Gurmukhs obtain the Greatness of the Naam. ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਈ ॥ गुरमुखि गुण गावै सोभा पाई ॥ Gurmukʰ guṇ gaavæ sobʰaa paa▫ee. The Gurmukhs sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and obtain honor. ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦਿ ਰਹੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਰਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥ सदा अनंदि रहै दिनु राती गुरमुखि सबदु करावणिआ ॥५॥ Saḋaa anand rahæ ḋin raaṫee gurmukʰ sabaḋ karaavaṇi▫aa. ||5|| They remain in bliss forever, day and night. The Gurmukhs practice the Word of the Shabad. ||5|| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੇ ਰਾਤਾ ॥ गुरमुखि अनदिनु सबदे राता ॥ Gurmukʰ an▫ḋin sabḋé raaṫaa. The Gurmukhs are attuned to the Shabad, night and day. ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰੇ ਹੈ ਜਾਤਾ ॥ गुरमुखि जुग चारे है जाता ॥ Gurmukʰ jug chaaré hæ jaaṫaa. The Gurmukhs are known throughout the four ages. ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸਬਦੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥ गुरमुखि गुण गावै सदा निरमलु सबदे भगति करावणिआ ॥६॥ Gurmukʰ guṇ gaavæ saḋaa nirmal sabḋé bʰagaṫ karaavaṇi▫aa. ||6|| The Gurmukhs always sing the Glorious Praises of the Immaculate Lord. Through the Shabad, they practice devotional worship. ||6|| ਬਾਝੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੈ ਅੰਧ ਅੰਧਾਰਾ ॥ बाझु गुरू है अंध अंधारा ॥ Baajʰ guroo hæ anḋʰ anḋʰaaraa. Without the Guru, there is only pitch-black darkness. ਜਮਕਾਲਿ ਗਰਠੇ ਕਰਹਿ ਪੁਕਾਰਾ ॥ जमकालि गरठे करहि पुकारा ॥ Jamkaal gartʰé karahi pukaaraa. Seized by the Messenger of Death, people cry out and scream. ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਰੋਗੀ ਬਿਸਟਾ ਕੇ ਕੀੜੇ ਬਿਸਟਾ ਮਹਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ अनदिनु रोगी बिसटा के कीड़े बिसटा महि दुखु पावणिआ ॥७॥ An▫ḋin rogee bistaa ké keeṛé bistaa mėh ḋukʰ paavṇi▫aa. ||7|| Night and day, they are diseased, like maggots in manure, and in manure they endure agony. ||7|| ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੨੫॥੨੬॥ नानक नामि मिलै वडिआई पूरे गुर ते पावणिआ ॥८॥२५॥२६॥ Naanak naam milæ vadi▫aa▫ee pooré gur ṫé paavṇi▫aa. ||8||25||26|| O Nanak! Through the Naam, greatness is obtained. It is received from the Perfect Guru. ||8||25||26|| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵੁਠਾ ਆਪਿ ਆਏ ॥ गुरमुखि हिरदै वुठा आपि आए ॥ Gurmukʰ hirḋæ vutʰaa aap aa▫é. In the hearts of the Gurmukhs, the Lord Himself comes to dwell. ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ॥ गुरमुखि आपे करे कराए ॥ Gurmukʰ aapé karé karaa▫é. The Gurmukhs know that the Lord alone acts, and causes others to act.
