ਬਸੰਤੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ बसंतु महला ५ ॥ Basanṯ mėhlā 5. Basant, Fifth Mehl: ਅਨਿਕ ਜਨਮ ਭ੍ਰਮੇ ਜੋਨਿ ਮਾਹਿ ॥ अनिक जनम भ्रमे जोनि माहि ॥ Anik janam bẖarame jon māhi. The mortal wanders in reincarnation through countless lifetimes. ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਰਕਿ ਪਾਹਿ ॥ हरि सिमरन बिनु नरकि पाहि ॥ Har simran bin narak pāhi. Without meditating in remembrance on the Lord, he falls into hell. ਭਗਤਿ ਬਿਹੂਨਾ ਖੰਡ ਖੰਡ ॥ भगति बिहूना खंड खंड ॥ Bẖagaṯ bihūnā kẖand kẖand. Without devotional worship, he is cut apart into pieces. ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝੇ ਜਮੁ ਦੇਤ ਡੰਡ ॥੧॥ बिनु बूझे जमु देत डंड ॥१॥ Bin būjẖe jam ḏeṯ dand. ||1|| Without understanding, he is punished by the Messenger of Death. ||1|| ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਭਜਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਦਾ ਮੀਤ ॥ गोबिंद भजहु मेरे सदा मीत ॥ Gobinḏ bẖajahu mere saḏā mīṯ. Meditate and vibrate forever on the Lord of the Universe, O my friend. ਸਾਚ ਸਬਦ ਕਰਿ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ साच सबद करि सदा प्रीति ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ Sācẖ sabaḏ kar saḏā parīṯ. ||1|| rahā▫o. Love forever the True Word of the Shabad. ||1||Pause|| ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਨ ਆਵਤ ਕਹੂੰ ਕਾਜ ॥ संतोखु न आवत कहूं काज ॥ Sanṯokẖ na āvaṯ kahū▫aʼn kāj. Contentment does not come by any endeavors. ਧੂੰਮ ਬਾਦਰ ਸਭਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਸਾਜ ॥ धूम बादर सभि माइआ साज ॥ Ḏẖūmm bāḏar sabẖ mā▫i▫ā sāj. All the show of Maya is just a cloud of smoke. ਪਾਪ ਕਰੰਤੌ ਨਹ ਸੰਗਾਇ ॥ पाप करंतौ नह संगाइ ॥ Pāp karanṯou nah sangā▫e. The mortal does not hesitate to commit sins. ਬਿਖੁ ਕਾ ਮਾਤਾ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥੨॥ बिखु का माता आवै जाइ ॥२॥ Bikẖ kā māṯā āvai jā▫e. ||2|| Intoxicated with poison, he comes and goes in reincarnation. ||2|| ਹਉ ਹਉ ਕਰਤ ਬਧੇ ਬਿਕਾਰ ॥ हउ हउ करत बधे बिकार ॥ Ha▫o ha▫o karaṯ baḏẖe bikār. Acting in egotism and self-conceit, his corruption only increases. ਮੋਹ ਲੋਭ ਡੂਬੌ ਸੰਸਾਰ ॥ मोह लोभ डूबौ संसार ॥ Moh lobẖ dūbou sansār. The world is drowning in attachment and greed. ਕਾਮਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿ ਮਨੁ ਵਸਿ ਕੀਆ ॥ कामि क्रोधि मनु वसि कीआ ॥ Kām kroḏẖ man vas kī▫ā. Sexual desire and anger hold the mind in its power. ਸੁਪਨੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਹਰਿ ਲੀਆ ॥੩॥ सुपनै नामु न हरि लीआ ॥३॥ Supnai nām na har lī▫ā. ||3|| Even in his dreams, he does not chant the Lord's Name. ||3|| ਕਬ ਹੀ ਰਾਜਾ ਕਬ ਮੰਗਨਹਾਰੁ ॥ कब ही राजा कब मंगनहारु ॥ Kab hī rājā kab manganhār. Sometimes he is a king, and sometimes he is a beggar. ਦੂਖ ਸੂਖ ਬਾਧੌ ਸੰਸਾਰ ॥ दूख सूख बाधौ संसार ॥ Ḏūkẖ sūkẖ bāḏẖou sansār. The world is bound by pleasure and pain. ਮਨ ਉਧਰਣ ਕਾ ਸਾਜੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥ मन उधरण का साजु नाहि ॥ Man uḏẖraṇ kā sāj nāhi. The mortal makes no arrangements to save himself. ਪਾਪ ਬੰਧਨ ਨਿਤ ਪਉਤ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੪॥ पाप बंधन नित पउत जाहि ॥४॥ Pāp banḏẖan niṯ pa▫uṯ jāhi. ||4|| The bondage of sin continues to hold him. ||4|| ਈਠ ਮੀਤ ਕੋਊ ਸਖਾ ਨਾਹਿ ॥ ईठ मीत कोऊ सखा नाहि ॥ Īṯẖ mīṯ ko▫ū sakẖā nāhi. He has no beloved friends or companions. ਆਪਿ ਬੀਜਿ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਖਾਂਹਿ ॥ आपि बीजि आपे ही खांहि ॥ Āp bīj āpe hī kẖāʼnhi. He himself eats what he himself plants. ਜਾ ਕੈ ਕੀਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੈ ਹੋਤ ਬਿਕਾਰ ॥ जा कै कीन्है होत बिकार ॥ Jā kai kīnĥai hoṯ bikār. He gathers up that which brings corruption; ਸੇ ਛੋਡਿ ਚਲਿਆ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਗਵਾਰ ॥੫॥ से छोडि चलिआ खिन महि गवार ॥५॥ Se cẖẖod cẖali▫ā kẖin mėh gavār. ||5|| leaving them, the fool must depart in an instant. ||5|| ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਬਹੁ ਭਰਮਿਆ ॥ माइआ मोहि बहु भरमिआ ॥ Mā▫i▫ā mohi baho bẖarmi▫ā. He wanders in attachment to Maya. ਕਿਰਤ ਰੇਖ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਮਿਆ ॥ किरत रेख करि करमिआ ॥ Kiraṯ rekẖ kar karmi▫ā. He acts in accordance with the karma of his past actions. ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰੁ ਅਲਿਪਤੁ ਆਪਿ ॥ करणैहारु अलिपतु आपि ॥ Karṇaihār alipaṯ āp. Only the Creator Himself remains detached. ਨਹੀ ਲੇਪੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪੁੰਨ ਪਾਪਿ ॥੬॥ नही लेपु प्रभ पुंन पापि ॥६॥ Nahī lep parabẖ punn pāp. ||6|| God is not affected by virtue or vice. ||6|| ਰਾਖਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦਇਆਲ ॥ राखि लेहु गोबिंद दइआल ॥ Rākẖ leho gobinḏ ḏa▫i▫āl. Please save me, O Merciful Lord of the Universe! ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ॥ तेरी सरणि पूरन क्रिपाल ॥ Ŧerī saraṇ pūran kirpāl. I seek Your Sanctuary, O Perfect Compassionate Lord. ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਹੀ ਠਾਉ ॥ तुझ बिनु दूजा नही ठाउ ॥ Ŧujẖ bin ḏūjā nahī ṯẖā▫o. Without You, I have no other place of rest. ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੇਹੁ ਨਾਉ ॥੭॥ करि किरपा प्रभ देहु नाउ ॥७॥ Kar kirpā parabẖ ḏeh nā▫o. ||7|| Please take pity on me, God, and bless me with Your Name. ||7|| ਤੂ ਕਰਤਾ ਤੂ ਕਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥ तू करता तू करणहारु ॥ Ŧū karṯā ṯū karanhār. You are the Creator, and You are the Doer. ਤੂ ਊਚਾ ਤੂ ਬਹੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥ तू ऊचा तू बहु अपारु ॥ Ŧū ūcẖā ṯū baho apār. You are High and Exalted, and You are totally Infinite. ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਲੜਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਲਾਇ ॥ करि किरपा लड़ि लेहु लाइ ॥ Kar kirpā laṛ leho lā▫e. Please be merciful, and attach me to the hem of Your robe. ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਾਇ ॥੮॥੨॥ नानक दास प्रभ की सरणाइ ॥८॥२॥ Nānak ḏās parabẖ kī sarṇā▫e. ||8||2|| Slave Nanak has entered the Sanctuary of God. ||8||2||
