ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥ ੴ सतिगुर प्रसादि ॥ Ik▫oaⁿkaar saṫgur parsaaḋ. One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru: ਬਸੰਤੁ ਹਿੰਡੋਲੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ਘਰੁ ੨ बसंतु हिंडोलु महला १ घरु २ Basanṫ hindol mėhlaa 1 gʰar 2 Basant Hindol, First Mehl, Second House: ਚਾਰੇ ਦੀਵੇ ਚਹੁ ਹਥਿ ਦੀਏ ਏਕਾ ਏਕਾ ਵਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ चारे दीवे चहु हथि दीए एका एका वारी ॥१॥ Chaaré ḋeevé chahu haṫʰ ḋee▫é ékaa ékaa vaaree. ||1|| He placed the four lamps, one by one, into the hands of the four ages. ||1|| ਨਉ ਸਤ ਚਉਦਹ ਤੀਨਿ ਚਾਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਮਹਲਤਿ ਚਾਰਿ ਬਹਾਲੀ ॥ नउ सत चउदह तीनि चारि करि महलति चारि बहाली ॥ Na▫o saṫ cha▫oḋah ṫeen chaar kar mahlaṫ chaar bahaalee. The nine regions, the seven continents, the fourteen worlds, the three qualities and the four ages - You established them all through the four sources of creation, and You seated them in Your mansions. ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨ ਮਧੁਸੂਦਨ ਮਾਧੌ ਐਸੀ ਸਕਤਿ ਤੁਮੑਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ मिहरवान मधुसूदन माधौ ऐसी सकति तुम्हारी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ Miharvaan maḋʰusooḋan maaḋʰou æsee sakaṫ ṫumĥaaree. ||1|| rahaa▫o. O Merciful Lord, Destroyer of demons, Lord of Lakshmi, such is Your Power - Your Shakti. ||1||Pause|| ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਲਸਕਰੁ ਪਾਵਕੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਧਰਮੁ ਕਰੇ ਸਿਕਦਾਰੀ ॥ घरि घरि लसकरु पावकु तेरा धरमु करे सिकदारी ॥ Gʰar gʰar laskar paavak ṫéraa ḋʰaram karé sikḋaaree. Your army is the fire in the home of each and every heart. And Dharma - righteous living is the ruling chieftain. ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇਗ ਮਿਲੈ ਇਕ ਵੇਰਾ ਭਾਗੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਭੰਡਾਰੀ ॥੨॥ धरती देग मिलै इक वेरा भागु तेरा भंडारी ॥२॥ Ḋʰarṫee ḋég milæ ik véraa bʰaag ṫéraa bʰandaaree. ||2|| The earth is Your great cooking pot; Your beings receive their portions only once. Destiny is Your gate-keeper. ||2|| ਨਾ ਸਾਬੂਰੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਮੰਗੈ ਨਾਰਦੁ ਕਰੇ ਖੁਆਰੀ ॥ ना साबूरु होवै फिरि मंगै नारदु करे खुआरी ॥ Naa saaboor hovæ fir mangæ naaraḋ karé kʰu▫aaree. But the mortal becomes unsatisfied, and begs for more; his fickle mind brings him disgrace. ਲਬੁ ਅਧੇਰਾ ਬੰਦੀਖਾਨਾ ਅਉਗਣ ਪੈਰਿ ਲੁਹਾਰੀ ॥੩॥ लबु अधेरा बंदीखाना अउगण पैरि लुहारी ॥३॥ Lab aḋʰéraa banḋeekʰaanaa a▫ugaṇ pær luhaaree. ||3|| Greed is the dark dungeon, and demerits are the shackles on his feet. ||3|| ਪੂੰਜੀ ਮਾਰ ਪਵੈ ਨਿਤ ਮੁਦਗਰ ਪਾਪੁ ਕਰੇ ਕੋੁਟਵਾਰੀ ॥ पूंजी मार पवै नित मुदगर पापु करे कुोटवारी ॥ Poonjee maar pavæ niṫ muḋgar paap karé kotvaaree. His wealth constantly batters him, and sin acts as the police officer. ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਕਉ ਅਲਹੁ ਕਹੀਐ ਸੇਖਾਂ ਆਈ ਵਾਰੀ ॥ आदि पुरख कउ अलहु कहीऐ सेखां आई वारी ॥ Aaḋ purakʰ ka▫o alhu kahee▫æ sékʰaaⁿ aa▫ee vaaree. The Primal Lord God is called Allah. The Shaykh’s turn has now come. ਭਾਵੈ ਚੰਗਾ ਭਾਵੈ ਮੰਦਾ ਜੈਸੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਤੁਮੑਾਰੀ ॥੪॥ भावै चंगा भावै मंदा जैसी नदरि तुम्हारी ॥४॥ Bʰaavæ changa bʰaavæ manḋaa jæsee naḋar ṫumĥaaree. ||4|| Whether the mortal is good or bad, he is as You look upon him, O Lord. ||4|| ਦੇਵਲ ਦੇਵਤਿਆ ਕਰੁ ਲਾਗਾ ਐਸੀ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਚਾਲੀ ॥੫॥ देवल देवतिआ करु लागा ऐसी कीरति चाली ॥५॥ Ḋéval ḋéviṫi▫aa kar laagaa æsee keeraṫ chaalee. ||5|| The temples of the gods are subject to taxes; this is what it has come to. ||5|| ਕੂਜਾ ਬਾਂਗ ਨਿਵਾਜ ਮੁਸਲਾ ਨੀਲ ਰੂਪ ਬਨਵਾਰੀ ॥ कूजा बांग निवाज मुसला नील रूप बनवारी ॥ Koojaa baaⁿg nivaaj muslaa neel roop banvaaree. The Muslim devotional pots, calls to prayer, prayers and prayer mats are everywhere; the Lord appears in blue robes. ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਮੀਆ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਜੀਆਂ ਬੋਲੀ ਅਵਰ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ॥੬॥ घरि घरि मीआ सभनां जीआं बोली अवर तुमारी ॥६॥ Gʰar gʰar mee▫aa sabʰnaaⁿ jee▫aaⁿ bolee avar ṫumaaree. ||6|| In each and every home, everyone uses Muslim greetings; your speech has changed, O people. ||6|| ਜੇ ਤੂ ਮੀਰ ਮਹੀਪਤਿ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਕਉਣ ਹਮਾਰੀ ॥ जे तू मीर महीपति साहिबु कुदरति कउण हमारी ॥ Jé ṫoo meer maheepaṫ saahib kuḋraṫ ka▫uṇ hamaaree. You, O my Lord and Master, are the King of the earth; what power do I have to challenge You? ਚਾਰੇ ਕੁੰਟ ਸਲਾਮੁ ਕਰਹਿਗੇ ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਤੁਮੑਾਰੀ ॥੭॥ चारे कुंट सलामु करहिगे घरि घरि सिफति तुम्हारी ॥७॥ Chaaré kunt salaam kar▫higé gʰar gʰar sifaṫ ṫumĥaaree. ||7|| In the four directions, people bow in humble adoration to You; Your Praises are sung in each and every heart. ||7|| ਤੀਰਥ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਪੁੰਨ ਦਾਨ ਕਿਛੁ ਲਾਹਾ ਮਿਲੈ ਦਿਹਾੜੀ ॥ तीरथ सिंम्रिति पुंन दान किछु लाहा मिलै दिहाड़ी ॥ Ṫiraṫʰ simriṫ punn ḋaan kichʰ laahaa milæ ḋihaaṛee. Making pilgrimages to sacred shrines, reading the Smritis and giving donations in charity - these do bring any profit. ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਮੇਕਾ ਘੜੀ ਸਮੑਾਲੀ ॥੮॥੧॥੮॥ नानक नामु मिलै वडिआई मेका घड़ी सम्हाली ॥८॥१॥८॥ Naanak naam milæ vadi▫aa▫ee mékaa gʰaṛee samĥaalee. ||8||1||8|| O Nanak! Glorious greatness is obtained in an instant, remembering the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||8||1||8||
