ਮਤੁ ਭਸਮ ਅੰਧੂਲੇ ਗਰਬਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥ मतु भसम अंधूले गरबि जाहि ॥ Maṯ bẖasam anḏẖūle garab jāhi. Do not make such a show of rubbing ashes on your body. ਬਸੰਤੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ਇਕ ਤੁਕੀਆ ॥ बसंतु महला १ इक तुकीआ ॥ Basanṯ mėhlā 1 ik ṯukī▫ā. Basant, First Mehl, Ik-Tukee: ਇਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਨਾਗੇ ਜੋਗੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ इन बिधि नागे जोगु नाहि ॥१॥ In biḏẖ nāge jog nāhi. ||1|| O naked Yogi, this is not the way of Yoga! ||1|| ਮੂੜ੍ਹ੍ਹੇ ਕਾਹੇ ਬਿਸਾਰਿਓ ਤੈ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ॥ मूड़्हे काहे बिसारिओ तै राम नाम ॥ Mūṛĥe kāhe bisāri▫o ṯai rām nām. You fool! How can you have forgotten the Lord's Name? ਗੁਰ ਪੂਛਿ ਤੁਮ ਕਰਹੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥ गुर पूछि तुम करहु बीचारु ॥ Gur pūcẖẖ ṯum karahu bīcẖār. Consult the Guru, reflect and think it over. ਅੰਤ ਕਾਲਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਆਵੈ ਕਾਮ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ अंत कालि तेरै आवै काम ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ Anṯ kāl ṯerai āvai kām. ||1|| rahā▫o. At the very last moment, it and it alone shall be of any use to you. ||1||Pause|| ਜਹ ਦੇਖਉ ਤਹ ਸਾਰਿਗਪਾਣਿ ॥੨॥ जह देखउ तह सारिगपाणि ॥२॥ Jah ḏekẖ▫a▫u ṯah sārigpāṇ. ||2|| Wherever I look, I see the Lord of the World. ||2|| ਕਿਆ ਹਉ ਆਖਾ ਜਾਂ ਕਛੂ ਨਾਹਿ ॥ किआ हउ आखा जां कछू नाहि ॥ Ki▫ā ha▫o ākẖā jāʼn kacẖẖū nāhi. What can I say? I am nothing. ਜਾਤਿ ਪਤਿ ਸਭ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਾਇ ॥੩॥ जाति पति सभ तेरै नाइ ॥३॥ Jāṯ paṯ sabẖ ṯerai nā▫e. ||3|| All my status and honor are in Your Name. ||3|| ਕਾਹੇ ਮਾਲੁ ਦਰਬੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਗਰਬਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥ काहे मालु दरबु देखि गरबि जाहि ॥ Kāhe māl ḏarab ḏekẖ garab jāhi. Why do you take such pride in gazing upon your property and wealth? ਚਲਤੀ ਬਾਰ ਤੇਰੋ ਕਛੂ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੪॥ चलती बार तेरो कछू नाहि ॥४॥ Cẖalṯī bār ṯero kacẖẖū nāhi. ||4|| When you must leave, nothing shall go along with you. ||4|| ਹਰਿ ਨ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਮੂੜੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੬॥ हरि न चेतहि मूड़े मुकति जाहि ॥६॥ Har na cẖīṯėh mūṛe mukaṯ jāhi. ||6|| You do not even think of the Lord - you fool! He alone shall liberate you. ||6|| ਹਉਮੈ ਪੈਖੜੁ ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨੈ ਮਾਹਿ ॥ हउमै पैखड़ु तेरे मनै माहि ॥ Ha▫umai paikẖaṛ ṯere manai māhi. Your mind is tied with the rope of egotism. ਜੋਗ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਕੀ ਇਹੈ ਪਾਂਇ ॥੫॥ जोग जुगति की इहै पांइ ॥५॥ Jog jugaṯ kī ihai pāʼn▫e. ||5|| This is the basis of the way of Yoga. ||5|| ਪੰਚ ਮਾਰਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਰਖਹੁ ਥਾਇ ॥ पंच मारि चितु रखहु थाइ ॥ Pancẖ mār cẖiṯ rakẖahu thā▫e. So subdue the five thieves, and hold your consciousness in its place. ਮਤ ਹਰਿ ਵਿਸਰਿਐ ਜਮ ਵਸਿ ਪਾਹਿ ॥ मत हरि विसरिऐ जम वसि पाहि ॥ Maṯ har visri▫ai jam vas pāhi. If you forget the Lord, you will fall into the clutches of the Messenger of Death. ਅੰਤ ਕਾਲਿ ਮੂੜੇ ਚੋਟ ਖਾਹਿ ॥੭॥ अंत कालि मूड़े चोट खाहि ॥७॥ Anṯ kāl mūṛe cẖot kẖāhi. ||7|| At that very last moment, you fool, you shall be beaten. ||7|| ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਹਿ ਆਪੁ ਜਾਇ ॥ गुर सबदु बीचारहि आपु जाइ ॥ Gur sabaḏ bīcẖārėh āp jā▫e. Contemplate the Word of the Guru's Shabad, and be rid of your ego. ਸਾਚ ਜੋਗੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਆਇ ॥੮॥ साच जोगु मनि वसै आइ ॥८॥ Sācẖ jog man vasai ā▫e. ||8|| True Yoga shall come to dwell in your mind. ||8|| ਜਿਨਿ ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਦਿਤਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਨਾਹਿ ॥ जिनि जीउ पिंडु दिता तिसु चेतहि नाहि ॥ Jin jī▫o pind ḏiṯā ṯis cẖīṯėh nāhi. He blessed you with body and soul, but you do not even think of Him. ਮੜੀ ਮਸਾਣੀ ਮੂੜੇ ਜੋਗੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੯॥ मड़ी मसाणी मूड़े जोगु नाहि ॥९॥ Maṛī masāṇī mūṛe jog nāhi. ||9|| You fool! Visiting graves and cremation grounds is not Yoga. ||9|| ਗੁਣ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਬੋਲੈ ਭਲੀ ਬਾਣਿ ॥ गुण नानकु बोलै भली बाणि ॥ Guṇ Nānak bolai bẖalī bāṇ. Nanak chants the sublime, glorious Bani of the Word. ਤੁਮ ਹੋਹੁ ਸੁਜਾਖੇ ਲੇਹੁ ਪਛਾਣਿ ॥੧੦॥੫॥ तुम होहु सुजाखे लेहु पछाणि ॥१०॥५॥ Ŧum hohu sujākẖe leho pacẖẖāṇ. ||10||5|| Understand it, and appreciate it. ||10||5|| ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਭਰਮੈ ਮਝਿ ਗੁਬਾਰ ॥੧॥ मनमुखि भरमै मझि गुबार ॥१॥ Manmukẖ bẖarmai majẖ gubār. ||1|| The self-willed manmukh wanders, lost in the darkness. ||1||
