ਮਤੁ ਭਸਮ ਅੰਧੂਲੇ ਗਰਬਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥ मतु भसम अंधूले गरबि जाहि ॥ Maṫ bʰasam anḋʰoolé garab jaahi. Do not make such a show of rubbing ashes on your body. ਬਸੰਤੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ਇਕ ਤੁਕੀਆ ॥ बसंतु महला १ इक तुकीआ ॥ Basanṫ mėhlaa 1 ik ṫukee▫aa. Basant, First Mehl, Ik-Tukee: ਇਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਨਾਗੇ ਜੋਗੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ इन बिधि नागे जोगु नाहि ॥१॥ In biḋʰ naagé jog naahi. ||1|| O naked Yogi, this is not the way of Yoga! ||1|| ਮੂੜੑੇ ਕਾਹੇ ਬਿਸਾਰਿਓ ਤੈ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ॥ मूड़्हे काहे बिसारिओ तै राम नाम ॥ Mooṛĥé kaahé bisaari▫o ṫæ raam naam. You fool! How can you have forgotten the Lord’s Name? ਗੁਰ ਪੂਛਿ ਤੁਮ ਕਰਹੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥ गुर पूछि तुम करहु बीचारु ॥ Gur poochʰ ṫum karahu beechaar. Consult the Guru, reflect and think it over. ਅੰਤ ਕਾਲਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਆਵੈ ਕਾਮ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ अंत कालि तेरै आवै काम ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ Anṫ kaal ṫéræ aavæ kaam. ||1|| rahaa▫o. At the very last moment, it and it alone shall be of any use to you. ||1||Pause|| ਜਹ ਦੇਖਉ ਤਹ ਸਾਰਿਗਪਾਣਿ ॥੨॥ जह देखउ तह सारिगपाणि ॥२॥ Jah ḋékʰ▫a▫u ṫah saarigpaaṇ. ||2|| Wherever I look, I see the Lord of the World. ||2|| ਕਿਆ ਹਉ ਆਖਾ ਜਾਂ ਕਛੂ ਨਾਹਿ ॥ किआ हउ आखा जां कछू नाहि ॥ Ki▫aa ha▫o aakʰaa jaaⁿ kachʰoo naahi. What can I say? I am nothing. ਜਾਤਿ ਪਤਿ ਸਭ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਾਇ ॥੩॥ जाति पति सभ तेरै नाइ ॥३॥ Jaaṫ paṫ sabʰ ṫéræ naa▫é. ||3|| All my status and honor are in Your Name. ||3|| ਕਾਹੇ ਮਾਲੁ ਦਰਬੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਗਰਬਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥ काहे मालु दरबु देखि गरबि जाहि ॥ Kaahé maal ḋarab ḋékʰ garab jaahi. Why do you take such pride in gazing upon your property and wealth? ਚਲਤੀ ਬਾਰ ਤੇਰੋ ਕਛੂ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੪॥ चलती बार तेरो कछू नाहि ॥४॥ Chalṫee baar ṫéro kachʰoo naahi. ||4|| When you must leave, nothing shall go along with you. ||4|| ਹਰਿ ਨ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਮੂੜੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੬॥ हरि न चेतहि मूड़े मुकति जाहि ॥६॥ Har na cheeṫėh mooṛé mukaṫ jaahi. ||6|| You do not even think of the Lord - you fool! He alone shall liberate you. ||6|| ਹਉਮੈ ਪੈਖੜੁ ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨੈ ਮਾਹਿ ॥ हउमै पैखड़ु तेरे मनै माहि ॥ Ha▫umæ pækʰaṛ ṫéré manæ maahi. Your mind is tied with the rope of egotism. ਜੋਗ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਕੀ ਇਹੈ ਪਾਂਇ ॥੫॥ जोग जुगति की इहै पांइ ॥५॥ Jog jugaṫ kee ihæ paaⁿ▫é. ||5|| This is the basis of the way of Yoga. ||5|| ਪੰਚ ਮਾਰਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਰਖਹੁ ਥਾਇ ॥ पंच मारि चितु रखहु थाइ ॥ Panch maar chiṫ rakʰahu ṫʰaa▫é. So, subdue the five thieves, and hold your consciousness in its place. ਮਤ ਹਰਿ ਵਿਸਰਿਐ ਜਮ ਵਸਿ ਪਾਹਿ ॥ मत हरि विसरिऐ जम वसि पाहि ॥ Maṫ har visri▫æ jam vas paahi. If you forget the Lord, you will fall into the clutches of the Messenger of Death. ਅੰਤ ਕਾਲਿ ਮੂੜੇ ਚੋਟ ਖਾਹਿ ॥੭॥ अंत कालि मूड़े चोट खाहि ॥७॥ Anṫ kaal mooṛé chot kʰaahi. ||7|| At that very last moment, you fool, you shall be beaten. ||7|| ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਹਿ ਆਪੁ ਜਾਇ ॥ गुर सबदु बीचारहि आपु जाइ ॥ Gur sabaḋ beechaarėh aap jaa▫é. Contemplate the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, and be rid of your ego. ਸਾਚ ਜੋਗੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਆਇ ॥੮॥ साच जोगु मनि वसै आइ ॥८॥ Saach jog man vasæ aa▫é. ||8|| True Yoga shall come to dwell in your mind. ||8|| ਜਿਨਿ ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਦਿਤਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਨਾਹਿ ॥ जिनि जीउ पिंडु दिता तिसु चेतहि नाहि ॥ Jin jee▫o pind ḋiṫaa ṫis cheeṫėh naahi. He blessed you with body and soul, but you do not even think of Him. ਮੜੀ ਮਸਾਣੀ ਮੂੜੇ ਜੋਗੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੯॥ मड़ी मसाणी मूड़े जोगु नाहि ॥९॥ Maṛee masaaṇee mooṛé jog naahi. ||9|| You fool! Visiting graves and cremation grounds is not Yoga. ||9|| ਗੁਣ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਬੋਲੈ ਭਲੀ ਬਾਣਿ ॥ गुण नानकु बोलै भली बाणि ॥ Guṇ Naanak bolæ bʰalee baaṇ. Nanak chants the sublime, glorious Bani of the Word. ਤੁਮ ਹੋਹੁ ਸੁਜਾਖੇ ਲੇਹੁ ਪਛਾਣਿ ॥੧੦॥੫॥ तुम होहु सुजाखे लेहु पछाणि ॥१०॥५॥ Ṫum hohu sujaakʰé lého pachʰaaṇ. ||10||5|| Understand it, and appreciate it. ||10||5|| ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਭਰਮੈ ਮਝਿ ਗੁਬਾਰ ॥੧॥ मनमुखि भरमै मझि गुबार ॥१॥ Manmukʰ bʰarmæ majʰ gubaar. ||1|| The self-willed Manmukh wanders, lost in the darkness. ||1||
