ਬਸੰਤੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ बसंतु महला ५ ॥ Basanṫ mėhlaa 5. Basant, Fifth Mehl: ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣ ਸਰੇਵਤ ਦੁਖੁ ਗਇਆ ॥ गुर चरण सरेवत दुखु गइआ ॥ Gur charaṇ sarévaṫ ḋukʰ ga▫i▫aa. Dwelling at the Guru’s Feet, pain and suffering go away. ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕਰੀ ਮਇਆ ॥ पारब्रहमि प्रभि करी मइआ ॥ Paarbarahm parabʰ karee ma▫i▫aa. The Supreme Lord God has shown mercy to me. ਸਰਬ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਪੂਰਨ ਕਾਮ ॥ सरब मनोरथ पूरन काम ॥ Sarab manoraṫʰ pooran kaam. All my desires and tasks are fulfilled. ਜਪਿ ਜੀਵੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ॥੧॥ जपि जीवै नानकु राम नाम ॥१॥ Jap jeevæ Naanak raam naam. ||1|| Chanting the Lord’s Name, Nanak lives. ||1|| ਸਾ ਰੁਤਿ ਸੁਹਾਵੀ ਜਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਚਿਤਿ ਆਵੈ ॥ सा रुति सुहावी जितु हरि चिति आवै ॥ Saa ruṫ suhaavee jiṫ har chiṫ aavæ. How beautiful is that season, when the Lord fills the mind. ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਦੀਸੈ ਬਿਲਲਾਂਤੀ ਸਾਕਤੁ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ बिनु सतिगुर दीसै बिललांती साकतु फिरि फिरि आवै जावै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ Bin saṫgur ḋeesæ billaaⁿṫee saakaṫ fir fir aavæ jaavæ. ||1|| rahaa▫o. Without the True Guru, the world weeps. The faithless cynic comes and goes in reincarnation, over and over again. ||1||Pause|| ਸੇ ਧਨਵੰਤ ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਰਾਸਿ ॥ से धनवंत जिन हरि प्रभु रासि ॥ Sé ḋʰanvanṫ jin har parabʰ raas. They alone are rich, who have the Wealth of the Lord God. ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਾਸਿ ॥ काम क्रोध गुर सबदि नासि ॥ Kaam kroḋʰ gur sabaḋ naas. Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, sexual desire and anger are eradicated. ਭੈ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਨਿਰਭੈ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ भै बिनसे निरभै पदु पाइआ ॥ Bʰæ binsé nirbʰæ paḋ paa▫i▫aa. Their fear is dispelled, and they attain the state of fearlessness. ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਨਾਨਕਿ ਖਸਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥੨॥ गुर मिलि नानकि खसमु धिआइआ ॥२॥ Gur mil Naanak kʰasam ḋʰi▫aa▫i▫aa. ||2|| Meeting with the Guru, Nanak meditates on his Lord and Master. ||2|| ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕੀਓ ਨਿਵਾਸ ॥ साधसंगति प्रभि कीओ निवास ॥ Saaḋʰsangaṫ parabʰ kee▫o nivaas. God dwells in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਜਪਿ ਹੋਈ ਪੂਰਨ ਆਸ ॥ हरि जपि जपि होई पूरन आस ॥ Har jap jap ho▫ee pooran aas. Chanting and meditating on the Lord, one’s hopes are fulfilled. ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ॥ जलि थलि महीअलि रवि रहिआ ॥ Jal ṫʰal mahee▫al rav rahi▫aa. God permeates and pervades the water, the land and the sky. ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਨਾਨਕਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਹਿਆ ॥੩॥ गुर मिलि नानकि हरि हरि कहिआ ॥३॥ Gur mil Naanak har har kahi▫aa. ||3|| Meeting with the Guru, Nanak chants the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||3|| ਅਸਟ ਸਿਧਿ ਨਵ ਨਿਧਿ ਏਹ ॥ असट सिधि नव निधि एह ॥ Asat siḋʰ nav niḋʰ éh. The eight miraculous spiritual powers and the nine treasures are contained in the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ਕਰਮਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਹ ॥ करमि परापति जिसु नामु देह ॥ Karam paraapaṫ jis naam ḋéh. This is bestowed when God grants His Grace. ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜਪਿ ਜਪਿ ਜੀਵਹਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸ ॥ प्रभ जपि जपि जीवहि तेरे दास ॥ Parabʰ jap jap jeevėh ṫéré ḋaas. Your slaves, O God, live by chanting and meditating on Your Name. ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਮਲ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸ ॥੪॥੧੩॥ गुर मिलि नानक कमल प्रगास ॥४॥१३॥ Gur mil Naanak kamal pargaas. ||4||13|| O Nanak! The heart-lotus of the Gurmukh blossoms forth. ||4||13||
