ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਉਤਾਰਿ ਦਿਗੰਬਰੁ ਹੋਗੁ ॥ बसत्र उतारि दिग्मबरु होगु ॥ Basṯar uṯār ḏigambar hog. A person may take off his clothes and be naked. ਬਸੰਤੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ਤੀਜਾ ॥ बसंतु महला ३ तीजा ॥ Basanṯ mėhlā 3 ṯījā. Basant, Third Mehl: ਜਟਾਧਾਰਿ ਕਿਆ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਜੋਗੁ ॥ जटाधारि किआ कमावै जोगु ॥ Jatāḏẖār ki▫ā kamāvai jog. What Yoga does he practice by having matted and tangled hair? ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਹੀ ਦਸਵੈ ਦੁਆਰ ॥ मनु निरमलु नही दसवै दुआर ॥ Man nirmal nahī ḏasvai ḏu▫ār. If the mind is not pure, what use is it to hold the breath at the Tenth Gate? ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਆਵੈ ਮੂੜ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਵਾਰੋ ਵਾਰ ॥੧॥ भ्रमि भ्रमि आवै मूड़्हा वारो वार ॥१॥ Bẖaram bẖaram āvai mūṛĥā vāro vār. ||1|| The fool wanders and wanders, entering the cycle of reincarnation again and again. ||1|| ਏਕੁ ਧਿਆਵਹੁ ਮੂੜ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਮਨਾ ॥ एकु धिआवहु मूड़्ह मना ॥ Ėk ḏẖi▫āvahu mūṛĥ manā. Meditate on the One Lord, O my foolish mind, ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਰਿ ਜਾਹਿ ਇਕ ਖਿਨਾਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ पारि उतरि जाहि इक खिनां ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ Pār uṯar jāhi ik kẖināʼn. ||1|| rahā▫o. and you shall cross over to the other side in an instant. ||1||Pause|| ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਕਰਹਿ ਵਖਿਆਣ ॥ सिम्रिति सासत्र करहि वखिआण ॥ Simriṯ sāsṯar karahi vakẖi▫āṇ. Some recite and expound on the Simritees and the Shaastras; ਨਾਦੀ ਬੇਦੀ ਪੜ੍ਹ੍ਹਹਿ ਪੁਰਾਣ ॥ नादी बेदी पड़्हहि पुराण ॥ Nāḏī beḏī paṛĥahi purāṇ. some sing the Vedas and read the Puraanas; ਪਾਖੰਡ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਮਨਿ ਕਪਟੁ ਕਮਾਹਿ ॥ पाखंड द्रिसटि मनि कपटु कमाहि ॥ Pakẖand ḏarisat man kapat kamāhi. but they practice hypocrisy and deception with their eyes and minds. ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਰਮਈਆ ਨੇੜਿ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੨॥ तिन कै रमईआ नेड़ि नाहि ॥२॥ Ŧin kai rama▫ī▫ā neṛ nāhi. ||2|| The Lord does not even come near them. ||2|| ਜੇ ਕੋ ਐਸਾ ਸੰਜਮੀ ਹੋਇ ॥ जे को ऐसा संजमी होइ ॥ Je ko aisā sanjmī ho▫e. Even if someone practices such self-discipline, ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਭੁ ਮਨੁ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਮਾਹਿ ॥ अंतरि लोभु मनु बिखिआ माहि ॥ Anṯar lobẖ man bikẖi▫ā māhi. if he is filled with greed, and his mind is engrossed in corruption, ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਆ ਕਰੇ ਕਿਆ ਹੋਇ ॥ कीता होआ करे किआ होइ ॥ Kīṯā ho▫ā kare ki▫ā ho▫e. What can the created being do? ਓਇ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਕੈਸੇ ਪਾਹਿ ॥੩॥ ओइ निरंजनु कैसे पाहि ॥३॥ O▫e niranjan kaise pāhi. ||3|| how can he find the Immaculate Lord? ||3|| ਕ੍ਰਿਆ ਵਿਸੇਖ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰੇਇ ॥ क्रिआ विसेख पूजा करेइ ॥ Kir▫ā visekẖ pūjā kare▫i. compassion and devotional worship - ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਪਿ ਚਲਾਏ ਸੋਇ ॥ जिस नो आपि चलाए सोइ ॥ Jis no āp cẖalā▫e so▫e. The Lord Himself moves him. ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਾਂ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਏ ॥ नदरि करे तां भरमु चुकाए ॥ Naḏar kare ṯāʼn bẖaram cẖukā▫e. If the Lord casts His Glance of Grace, then his doubts are dispelled. ਹੁਕਮੈ ਬੂਝੈ ਤਾਂ ਸਾਚਾ ਪਾਏ ॥੪॥ हुकमै बूझै तां साचा पाए ॥४॥ Hukmai būjẖai ṯāʼn sācẖā pā▫e. ||4|| If the mortal realizes the Hukam of the Lord's Command, he obtains the True Lord. ||4|| ਜਿਸੁ ਜੀਉ ਅੰਤਰੁ ਮੈਲਾ ਹੋਇ ॥ जिसु जीउ अंतरु मैला होइ ॥ Jis jī▫o anṯar mailā ho▫e. If someone's soul is polluted within, ਤੀਰਥ ਭਵੈ ਦਿਸੰਤਰ ਲੋਇ ॥ तीरथ भवै दिसंतर लोइ ॥ Ŧirath bẖavai disanṯar lo▫e. what is the use of his traveling to sacred shrines of pilgrimage all over the world? ਨਾਨਕ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੰਗ ॥ नानक मिलीऐ सतिगुर संग ॥ Nānak milī▫ai saṯgur sang. O Nanak, when one joins the Society of the True Guru, ਮੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੀਸੈ ਸਰਬ ਤੋਹ ॥ मै अवरु न दीसै सरब तोह ॥ Mai avar na ḏīsai sarab ṯoh. I do not see any other at all - You are everywhere. ਸਗਲ ਭਵਨ ਤੇਰੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ॥ सगल भवन तेरी माइआ मोह ॥ Sagal bẖavan ṯerī mā▫i▫ā moh. All the worlds have been fascinated and enchanted by Your Maya, O Lord. ਤਉ ਭਵਜਲ ਕੇ ਤੂਟਸਿ ਬੰਧ ॥੫॥੪॥ तउ भवजल के तूटसि बंध ॥५॥४॥ Ŧa▫o bẖavjal ke ṯūtas banḏẖ. ||5||4|| then the bonds of the terrifying world-ocean are broken. ||5||4||
