ਇਤਨਕੁ ਖਟੀਆ ਗਠੀਆ ਮਟੀਆ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਕਛੁ ਲੈ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ इतनकु खटीआ गठीआ मटीआ संगि न कछु लै जाइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ Iṯnak kẖatī▫ā gaṯẖī▫ā matī▫ā sang na kacẖẖ lai jā▫e. ||1|| rahā▫o. With so much wealth and cash and buried treasure, still, he cannot take anything with him. ||1||Pause|| ਚਾਰਿ ਦਿਨ ਅਪਨੀ ਨਉਬਤਿ ਚਲੇ ਬਜਾਇ ॥ चारि दिन अपनी नउबति चले बजाइ ॥ Cẖār ḏin apnī na▫ubaṯ cẖale bajā▫e. The mortal beats the drum for a few days, and then he must depart. ਦਿਹਰੀ ਬੈਠੀ ਮਿਹਰੀ ਰੋਵੈ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਲਉ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਾਇ ॥ दिहरी बैठी मिहरी रोवै दुआरै लउ संगि माइ ॥ Ḏihrī baiṯẖī mihrī rovai ḏu▫ārai la▫o sang mā▫e. Sitting on the threshold, his wife weeps and wails; his mother accompanies him to the outer gate. ਮਰਹਟ ਲਗਿ ਸਭੁ ਲੋਗੁ ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ਮਿਲਿ ਹੰਸੁ ਇਕੇਲਾ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ मरहट लगि सभु लोगु कुट्मबु मिलि हंसु इकेला जाइ ॥१॥ Marhat lag sabẖ log kutamb mil hans ikelā jā▫e. ||1|| All the people and relatives together go to the crematorium, but the swan-soul must go home all alone. ||1|| ਵੈ ਸੁਤ ਵੈ ਬਿਤ ਵੈ ਪੁਰ ਪਾਟਨ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਦੇਖੈ ਆਇ ॥ वै सुत वै बित वै पुर पाटन बहुरि न देखै आइ ॥ vai suṯ vai biṯ vai pur pātan bahur na ḏekẖai ā▫e. Those children, that wealth, that city and town - he shall not come to see them again. ਕਹਤੁ ਕਬੀਰੁ ਰਾਮੁ ਕੀ ਨ ਸਿਮਰਹੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਅਕਾਰਥੁ ਜਾਇ ॥੨॥੬॥ कहतु कबीरु रामु की न सिमरहु जनमु अकारथु जाइ ॥२॥६॥ Kahaṯ Kabīr rām kī na simrahu janam akārath jā▫e. ||2||6|| Says Kabeer, why do you not meditate on the Lord? Your life is uselessly slipping away! ||2||6||
