ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਸੁ ਮੁਆ ਜਾਪੈ ॥ सबदि मरै सु मुआ जापै ॥ Sabaḏ marai so mu▫ā jāpai. One who dies in the Word of the Shabad is truly dead. ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥ माझ महला ३ ॥ Mājẖ mėhlā 3. Maajh, Third Mehl: ਜੋਤੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ਸੁਣਿ ਮਨ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ जोती विचि मिलि जोति समाणी सुणि मन सचि समावणिआ ॥१॥ Joṯī vicẖ mil joṯ samāṇī suṇ man sacẖ samāvaṇi▫ā. ||1|| His light merges and is absorbed into the Light, when he hears and merges in the Truth. ||1|| ਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਚਾਪੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਸੰਤਾਪੈ ॥ कालु न चापै दुखु न संतापै ॥ Kāl na cẖāpai ḏukẖ na sanṯāpai. Death does not crush him, and pain does not afflict him. ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸਚਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ सतिगुरु सेवि सचि चितु लाइआ गुरमती सहजि समावणिआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ Saṯgur sev sacẖ cẖiṯ lā▫i▫ā gurmaṯī sahj samāvaṇi▫ā. ||1|| rahā▫o. One who serves the True Guru, and focuses his consciousness on Truth, following the Guru's Teachings, is absorbed in intuitive peace and poise. ||1||Pause|| ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਇ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥ हउ वारी जीउ वारी हरि कै नाइ सोभा पावणिआ ॥ Ha▫o vārī jī▫o vārī har kai nā▫e sobẖā pāvṇi▫ā. I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to the Lord's Name, which brings us to glory. ਕਾਇਆ ਕਚੀ ਕਚਾ ਚੀਰੁ ਹੰਢਾਏ ॥ काइआ कची कचा चीरु हंढाए ॥ Kā▫i▫ā kacẖī kacẖā cẖīr handẖā▫e. This human body is transitory, and transitory are the garments it wears. ਦੂਜੈ ਲਾਗੀ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥ दूजै लागी महलु न पाए ॥ Ḏūjai lāgī mahal na pā▫e. Attached to duality, no one attains the Mansion of the Lord's Presence. ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਲਦੀ ਫਿਰੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਪਿਰ ਬਹੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥ अनदिनु जलदी फिरै दिनु राती बिनु पिर बहु दुखु पावणिआ ॥२॥ An▫ḏin jalḏī firai ḏin rāṯī bin pir baho ḏukẖ pāvṇi▫ā. ||2|| Night and day, day and night, they burn. Without her Husband Lord, the soul-bride suffers in terrible pain. ||2|| ਦੇਹੀ ਜਾਤਿ ਨ ਆਗੈ ਜਾਏ ॥ देही जाति न आगै जाए ॥ Ḏehī jāṯ na āgai jā▫e. Her body and her status shall not go with her to the world hereafter. ਜਿਥੈ ਲੇਖਾ ਮੰਗੀਐ ਤਿਥੈ ਛੁਟੈ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਏ ॥ जिथै लेखा मंगीऐ तिथै छुटै सचु कमाए ॥ Jithai lekẖā mangī▫ai ṯithai cẖẖutai sacẖ kamā▫e. Where she is called to answer for her account, there, she shall be emancipated only by true actions. ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਸੇ ਧਨਵੰਤੇ ਐਥੈ ਓਥੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥ सतिगुरु सेवनि से धनवंते ऐथै ओथै नामि समावणिआ ॥३॥ Saṯgur sevan se ḏẖanvanṯe aithai othai nām samāvaṇi▫ā. ||3|| Those who serve the True Guru shall prosper; here and hereafter, they are absorbed in the Naam. ||3|| ਭੈ ਭਾਇ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਬਣਾਏ ॥ भै भाइ सीगारु बणाए ॥ Bẖai bẖā▫e sīgār baṇā▫e. She who adorns herself with the Love and the Fear of God, ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮਹਲੁ ਘਰੁ ਪਾਏ ॥ गुर परसादी महलु घरु पाए ॥ Gur parsādī mahal gẖar pā▫e. by Guru's Grace, obtains the Mansion of the Lord's Presence as her home. ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਰਵੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਮਜੀਠੈ ਰੰਗੁ ਬਣਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥ अनदिनु सदा रवै दिनु राती मजीठै रंगु बणावणिआ ॥४॥ An▫ḏin saḏā ravai ḏin rāṯī majīṯẖai rang baṇāvaṇi▫ā. ||4|| Night and day, day and night, she constantly ravishes and enjoys her Beloved. She is dyed in the permanent color of His Love. ||4|| ਸਭਨਾ ਪਿਰੁ ਵਸੈ ਸਦਾ ਨਾਲੇ ॥ सभना पिरु वसै सदा नाले ॥ Sabẖnā pir vasai saḏā nāle. The Husband Lord abides with everyone, always; ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਤਿ ਊਚੋ ਊਚਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥ मेरा प्रभु अति ऊचो ऊचा करि किरपा आपि मिलावणिआ ॥५॥ Merā parabẖ aṯ ūcẖo ūcẖā kar kirpā āp milāvaṇi▫ā. ||5|| My God is the Highest of the High; granting His Grace, He merges us into Himself. ||5|| ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਕੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲੇ ॥ गुर परसादी को नदरि निहाले ॥ Gur parsādī ko naḏar nihāle. but how rare are those few who, by Guru's Grace, obtain His Glance of Grace. ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਸੁਤਾ ॥ माइआ मोहि इहु जगु सुता ॥ Mā▫i▫ā mohi ih jag suṯā. This world is asleep in emotional attachment to Maya. ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਵਿਗੁਤਾ ॥ नामु विसारि अंति विगुता ॥ Nām visār anṯ viguṯā. Forgetting the Naam, the Name of the Lord, it ultimately comes to ruin. ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਸੁਤਾ ਸੋ ਜਾਗਾਏ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥ जिस ते सुता सो जागाए गुरमति सोझी पावणिआ ॥६॥ Jis ṯe suṯā so jāgā▫e gurmaṯ sojẖī pāvṇi▫ā. ||6|| The One who put it to sleep shall also awaken it. Through the Guru's Teachings, understanding dawns. ||6|| ਅਪਿਉ ਪੀਐ ਸੋ ਭਰਮੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥ अपिउ पीऐ सो भरमु गवाए ॥ Api▫o pī▫ai so bẖaram gavā▫e. One who drinks in this Nectar, shall have his delusions dispelled. ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਏ ॥ गुर परसादि मुकति गति पाए ॥ Gur parsāḏ mukaṯ gaṯ pā▫e. By Guru's Grace, the state of liberation is attained. ਭਗਤੀ ਰਤਾ ਸਦਾ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਆਪੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ भगती रता सदा बैरागी आपु मारि मिलावणिआ ॥७॥ Bẖagṯī raṯā saḏā bairāgī āp mār milāvaṇi▫ā. ||7|| One who is imbued with devotion to the Lord, remains always balanced and detached. Subduing selfishness and conceit, he is united with the Lord. ||7|| ਆਪਿ ਉਪਾਏ ਧੰਧੈ ਲਾਏ ॥ आपि उपाए धंधै लाए ॥ Āp upā▫e ḏẖanḏẖai lā▫e. He Himself creates, and He Himself assigns us to our tasks. ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਸਚਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੁ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੪॥੫॥ नानक नामु धिआइ सचि राते जो तिसु भावै सु कार करावणिआ ॥८॥४॥५॥ Nānak nām ḏẖi▫ā▫e sacẖ rāṯe jo ṯis bẖāvai so kār karāvaṇi▫ā. ||8||4||5|| O Nanak, those who meditate on the Naam are attuned to Truth. They do that which is pleasing to His Will. ||8||4||5|| ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀ ਰਿਜਕੁ ਆਪਿ ਅਪੜਾਏ ॥ लख चउरासी रिजकु आपि अपड़ाए ॥ Lakẖ cẖa▫urāsī rijak āp apṛā▫e. He Himself gives sustenance to the 8.4 million species of beings.
