ਨਾਵਣੁ ਪੁਰਬੁ ਅਭੀਚੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਦਰਸੁ ਭਇਆ ॥ नावणु पुरबु अभीचु गुर सतिगुर दरसु भइआ ॥ Nāvaṇ purab abẖīcẖ gur saṯgur ḏaras bẖa▫i▫ā. To receive the Blessed Vision of the Darshan of the Guru, the True Guru, is to truly bathe at the Abhaijit festival. ਤੁਖਾਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ॥ तुखारी महला ४ ॥ Ŧukẖārī mėhlā 4. Tukhaari, Fourth Mehl: ਗੁਰ ਦਰਸੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੀ ॥ गुर दरसु पाइआ अगिआनु गवाइआ अंतरि जोति प्रगासी ॥ Gur ḏaras pā▫i▫ā agi▫ān gavā▫i▫ā anṯar joṯ pargāsī. Blessed by the Guru's Darshan, spiritual ignorance is dispelled, and the Divine Light illuminates the inner being. ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਹਰੀ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਅੰਧੇਰੁ ਗਇਆ ॥ दुरमति मैलु हरी अगिआनु अंधेरु गइआ ॥ Ḏurmaṯ mail harī agi▫ān anḏẖer ga▫i▫ā. The filth of evil-mindedness is washed off, and the darkness of ignorance is dispelled. ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦੁਖ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ॥ जनम मरण दुख खिन महि बिनसे हरि पाइआ प्रभु अबिनासी ॥ Janam maran ḏukẖ kẖin mėh binse har pā▫i▫ā parabẖ abẖināsī. The pains of birth and death vanish in an instant, and the Eternal, Imperishable Lord God is found. ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਤੈ ਪੁਰਬੁ ਕੀਆ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਕੁਲਖੇਤਿ ਨਾਵਣਿ ਗਇਆ ॥ हरि आपि करतै पुरबु कीआ सतिगुरू कुलखेति नावणि गइआ ॥ Har āp karṯai purab kī▫ā saṯgurū kulkẖeṯ nāvaṇ ga▫i▫ā. The Sikhs traveled with the Guru, the True Guru, on the path, along the road. ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਬਣੀ ਖਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਨਿਮਖ ਵਿਖਾ ॥ अनदिनु भगति बणी खिनु खिनु निमख विखा ॥ An▫ḏin bẖagaṯ baṇī kẖin kẖin nimakẖ vikẖā. Night and day, devotional worship services were held, each and every instant, with each step. ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਬਣੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇਰੀ ਸਭੁ ਲੋਕੁ ਵੇਖਣਿ ਆਇਆ ॥ हरि हरि भगति बणी प्रभ केरी सभु लोकु वेखणि आइआ ॥ Har har bẖagaṯ baṇī parabẖ kerī sabẖ lok vekẖaṇ ā▫i▫ā. Devotional worship services to the Lord God were held, and all the people came to see the Guru. ਜਿਨ ਦਰਸੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਕੀਆ ਤਿਨ ਆਪਿ ਹਰਿ ਮੇਲਾਇਆ ॥ जिन दरसु सतिगुर गुरू कीआ तिन आपि हरि मेलाइआ ॥ Jin ḏaras saṯgur gurū kī▫ā ṯin āp har melā▫i▫ā. Whoever was blessed with the Darshan of the Guru, the True Guru, the Lord united with Himself. ਤੀਰਥ ਉਦਮੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਕੀਆ ਸਭ ਲੋਕ ਉਧਰਣ ਅਰਥਾ ॥ तीरथ उदमु सतिगुरू कीआ सभ लोक उधरण अरथा ॥ Ŧirath uḏam saṯgurū kī▫ā sabẖ lok uḏẖraṇ arthā. The True Guru made the pilgrimage to the sacred shrines, for the sake of saving all the people. ਮਾਰਗਿ ਪੰਥਿ ਚਲੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਿਖਾ ॥੨॥ मारगि पंथि चले गुर सतिगुर संगि सिखा ॥२॥ Mārag panth cẖale gur saṯgur sang sikẖā. ||2|| The Sikhs traveled with the Guru, the True Guru, on the path, along the road. ||2|| ਪ੍ਰਥਮ ਆਏ ਕੁਲਖੇਤਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪੁਰਬੁ ਹੋਆ ॥ प्रथम आए कुलखेति गुर सतिगुर पुरबु होआ ॥ Paratham ā▫e kulkẖeṯ gur saṯgur purab ho▫ā. When the Guru, the True Guru, first arrived at Kuruk-shaytra, it was a very auspicious time. ਖਬਰਿ ਭਈ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ਆਏ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਲੋਆ ॥ खबरि भई संसारि आए त्रै लोआ ॥ Kẖabar bẖa▫ī sansār ā▫e ṯarai lo▫ā. The news spread throughout the world, and the beings of the three worlds came. ਦੇਖਣਿ ਆਏ ਤੀਨਿ ਲੋਕ ਸੁਰਿ ਨਰ ਮੁਨਿ ਜਨ ਸਭਿ ਆਇਆ ॥ देखणि आए तीनि लोक सुरि नर मुनि जन सभि आइआ ॥ Ḏekẖaṇ ā▫e ṯīn lok sur nar mun jan sabẖ ā▫i▫ā. The angelic beings and silent sages from all the three worlds came to see Him. ਜਿਨ ਪਰਸਿਆ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਪੂਰਾ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਨਾਸ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥ जिन परसिआ गुरु सतिगुरू पूरा तिन के किलविख नास गवाइआ ॥ Jin parsi▫ā gur saṯgurū pūrā ṯin ke kilvikẖ nās gavā▫i▫ā. Those who are touched by the Guru, the True Guru - all their sins and mistakes were erased and dispelled. ਜੋਗੀ ਦਿਗੰਬਰ ਸੰਨਿਆਸੀ ਖਟੁ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰਿ ਗਏ ਗੋਸਟਿ ਢੋਆ ॥ जोगी दिग्मबर संनिआसी खटु दरसन करि गए गोसटि ढोआ ॥ Jogī ḏigambar sani▫āsī kẖat ḏarsan kar ga▫e gosat dẖo▫ā. The Yogis, the nudists, the Sannyaasees and those of the six schools of philosophy spoke with Him, and then bowed and departed. ਪ੍ਰਥਮ ਆਏ ਕੁਲਖੇਤਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪੁਰਬੁ ਹੋਆ ॥੩॥ प्रथम आए कुलखेति गुर सतिगुर पुरबु होआ ॥३॥ Paratham ā▫e kulkẖeṯ gur saṯgur purab ho▫ā. ||3|| When the Guru, the True Guru, first arrived at Kuruk-shaytra, it was a very auspicious time. ||3|| ਦੁਤੀਆ ਜਮੁਨ ਗਏ ਗੁਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਨੁ ਕੀਆ ॥ दुतीआ जमुन गए गुरि हरि हरि जपनु कीआ ॥ Ḏuṯī▫ā jamun ga▫e gur har har japan kī▫ā. Second, the Guru went to the river Jamunaa, where He chanted the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ਸਭ ਛੁਟੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਪਿਛੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥ सभ छुटी सतिगुरू पिछै जिनि हरि हरि नामु धिआइआ ॥ Sabẖ cẖẖutī saṯgurū picẖẖai jin har har nām ḏẖi▫ā▫i▫ā. All the True Guru's followers were excused from the tax; they meditated on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ਜਾਗਾਤੀ ਮਿਲੇ ਦੇ ਭੇਟ ਗੁਰ ਪਿਛੈ ਲੰਘਾਇ ਦੀਆ ॥ जागाती मिले दे भेट गुर पिछै लंघाइ दीआ ॥ Jāgāṯī mile ḏe bẖet gur picẖẖai langẖā▫e ḏī▫ā. The tax collectors met the Guru and gave Him offerings; they did not impose the tax on His followers. ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨਿ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਜੋ ਪੰਥਿ ਚਾਲੇ ਤਿਨ ਜਮੁ ਜਾਗਾਤੀ ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਆਇਆ ॥ गुर बचनि मारगि जो पंथि चाले तिन जमु जागाती नेड़ि न आइआ ॥ Gur bacẖan mārag jo panth cẖāle ṯin jam jāgāṯī neṛ na ā▫i▫ā. The Messenger of Death does not even approach those who have walked on the path, and followed the Guru's Teachings. ਸਭ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੁਰੂ ਜਗਤੁ ਬੋਲੈ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਨਾਇ ਲਇਐ ਸਭਿ ਛੁਟਕਿ ਗਇਆ ॥ सभ गुरू गुरू जगतु बोलै गुर कै नाइ लइऐ सभि छुटकि गइआ ॥ Sabẖ gurū gurū jagaṯ bolai gur kai nā▫e la▫i▫ai sabẖ cẖẖutak ga▫i▫ā. All the world said, "Guru! Guru! Guru!" Uttering the Guru's Name, they were all emancipated. ਦੁਤੀਆ ਜਮੁਨ ਗਏ ਗੁਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਨੁ ਕੀਆ ॥੪॥ दुतीआ जमुन गए गुरि हरि हरि जपनु कीआ ॥४॥ Ḏuṯī▫ā jamun ga▫e gur har har japan kī▫ā. ||4|| Second, the Guru went to the river Jamunaa, where He chanted the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||4|| ਤ੍ਰਿਤੀਆ ਆਏ ਸੁਰਸਰੀ ਤਹ ਕਉਤਕੁ ਚਲਤੁ ਭਇਆ ॥ त्रितीआ आए सुरसरी तह कउतकु चलतु भइआ ॥ Ŧariṯī▫ā ā▫e sursarī ṯah ka▫uṯak cẖalaṯ bẖa▫i▫ā. Third, He went to the Ganges, and a wonderful drama was played out there. ਸਭ ਮੋਹੀ ਦੇਖਿ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸੰਤ ਕਿਨੈ ਆਢੁ ਨ ਦਾਮੁ ਲਇਆ ॥ सभ मोही देखि दरसनु गुर संत किनै आढु न दामु लइआ ॥ Sabẖ mohī ḏekẖ ḏarsan gur sanṯ kinai ādẖ na ḏām la▫i▫ā. All were fascinated, gazing upon the Blessed Vision of the Saintly Guru's Darshan; no tax at all was imposed upon anyone. ਆਢੁ ਦਾਮੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਪਇਆ ਨ ਬੋਲਕ ਜਾਗਾਤੀਆ ਮੋਹਣ ਮੁੰਦਣਿ ਪਈ ॥ आढु दामु किछु पइआ न बोलक जागातीआ मोहण मुंदणि पई ॥ Ādẖ ḏām kicẖẖ pa▫i▫ā na bolak jāgāṯī▫ā mohaṇ munḏaṇ pa▫ī. No tax at all was collected, and the mouths of the tax collectors were sealed. ਭਾਈ ਹਮ ਕਰਹ ਕਿਆ ਕਿਸੁ ਪਾਸਿ ਮਾਂਗਹ ਸਭ ਭਾਗਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਿਛੈ ਪਈ ॥ भाई हम करह किआ किसु पासि मांगह सभ भागि सतिगुर पिछै पई ॥ Bẖā▫ī ham karah ki▫ā kis pās māʼngah sabẖ bẖāg saṯgur picẖẖai pa▫ī. They said, "O brothers, what should we do? Who should we ask? Everyone is running after the True Guru. ਜਾਗਾਤੀਆ ਉਪਾਵ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਕਰਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ਡਿਠਾ ਭੰਨਿ ਬੋਲਕਾ ਸਭਿ ਉਠਿ ਗਇਆ ॥ जागातीआ उपाव सिआणप करि वीचारु डिठा भंनि बोलका सभि उठि गइआ ॥ Jāgāṯī▫ā upāv si▫āṇap kar vīcẖār diṯẖā bẖann bolkā sabẖ uṯẖ ga▫i▫ā. The tax collectors were smart; they thought about it, and saw. They broke their cash-boxes and left. ਮਿਲਿ ਆਏ ਨਗਰ ਮਹਾ ਜਨਾ ਗੁਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਓਟ ਗਹੀ ॥ मिलि आए नगर महा जना गुर सतिगुर ओट गही ॥ Mil ā▫e nagar mahā janā gur saṯgur ot gahī. The important men of the city met together, and sought the Protection of the Guru, the True Guru. ਤ੍ਰਿਤੀਆ ਆਏ ਸੁਰਸਰੀ ਤਹ ਕਉਤਕੁ ਚਲਤੁ ਭਇਆ ॥੫॥ त्रितीआ आए सुरसरी तह कउतकु चलतु भइआ ॥५॥ Ŧariṯī▫ā ā▫e sursarī ṯah ka▫uṯak cẖalaṯ bẖa▫i▫ā. ||5|| Third, He went to the Ganges, and a wonderful drama was played out there. ||5|| ਗੁਰੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਗੋਵਿਦੁ ਪੁਛਿ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਕੀਤਾ ਸਹੀ ॥ गुरु सतिगुरु गुरु गोविदु पुछि सिम्रिति कीता सही ॥ Gur saṯgur gur goviḏ pucẖẖ simriṯ kīṯā sahī. The Guru, the True Guru, the Guru is the Lord of the Universe. Go ahead and consult the Simritees - they will confirm this. ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਸਭਨੀ ਸਹੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੁਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦਿ ਸ੍ਰੀਰਾਮਿ ਕਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਵਿਦੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥ सिम्रिति सासत्र सभनी सही कीता सुकि प्रहिलादि स्रीरामि करि गुर गोविदु धिआइआ ॥ Simriṯ sāsṯar sabẖnī sahī kīṯā suk par▫hilāḏ sarīrām kar gur goviḏ ḏẖi▫ā▫i▫ā. The Simritees and the Shaastras all confirm that Suk Dayv and Prahlaad meditated on the Guru, the Lord of the Universe, and knew Him as the Supreme Lord. ਦੇਹੀ ਨਗਰਿ ਕੋਟਿ ਪੰਚ ਚੋਰ ਵਟਵਾਰੇ ਤਿਨ ਕਾ ਥਾਉ ਥੇਹੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥ देही नगरि कोटि पंच चोर वटवारे तिन का थाउ थेहु गवाइआ ॥ Ḏehī nagar kot pancẖ cẖor vatvāre ṯin kā thā▫o thehu gavā▫i▫ā. The five thieves and the highway robbers dwell in the fortress of the body-village; the Guru has destroyed their home and place. ਕੀਰਤਨ ਪੁਰਾਣ ਨਿਤ ਪੁੰਨ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨਿ ਨਾਨਕਿ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਲਹੀ ॥ कीरतन पुराण नित पुंन होवहि गुर बचनि नानकि हरि भगति लही ॥ Kīrṯan purāṇ niṯ punn hovėh gur bacẖan Nānak har bẖagaṯ lahī. The Puraanas continually praise the giving of charity, but devotional worship of the Lord is only obtained through the Word of Guru Nanak. ਮਿਲਿ ਆਏ ਨਗਰ ਮਹਾ ਜਨਾ ਗੁਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਓਟ ਗਹੀ ॥੬॥੪॥੧੦॥ मिलि आए नगर महा जना गुर सतिगुर ओट गही ॥६॥४॥१०॥ Mil ā▫e nagar mahā janā gur saṯgur ot gahī. ||6||4||10|| The important men of the city met together, and sought the Protection of the Guru, the True Guru. ||6||4||10||
