ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥ मारू महला ३ ॥ Maaroo mėhlaa 3. Maaroo, Third Mehl: ਆਦਿ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਦਇਆਪਤਿ ਦਾਤਾ ॥ आदि जुगादि दइआपति दाता ॥ Aaḋ jugaaḋ ḋa▫i▫aapaṫ ḋaaṫaa. From the very beginning of time, and throughout the ages, the Merciful Lord has been the Great Giver. ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥ पूरे गुर कै सबदि पछाता ॥ Pooré gur kæ sabaḋ pachʰaaṫaa. Through the Shabad, the Word of the Perfect Guru, He is realized. ਤੁਧੁਨੋ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸੇ ਤੁਝਹਿ ਸਮਾਵਹਿ ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੧॥ तुधुनो सेवहि से तुझहि समावहि तू आपे मेलि मिलाइदा ॥१॥ Ṫuḋʰuno sévėh sé ṫujʰėh samaavėh ṫoo aapé mél milaa▫iḋaa. ||1|| Those who serve You are immersed in You. You unite them in Union with Yourself. ||1|| ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਈ ॥ अगम अगोचरु कीमति नही पाई ॥ Agam agochar keemaṫ nahee paa▫ee. You are inaccessible and unfathomable; Your limits cannot be found. ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥ जीअ जंत तेरी सरणाई ॥ Jee▫a janṫ ṫéree sarṇaa▫ee. All beings and creatures seek Your Sanctuary. ਜਿਉ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਵੈ ਚਲਾਵਹਿ ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੨॥ जिउ तुधु भावै तिवै चलावहि तू आपे मारगि पाइदा ॥२॥ Ji▫o ṫuḋʰ bʰaavæ ṫivæ chalaavėh ṫoo aapé maarag paa▫iḋaa. ||2|| As it pleases You, You guide us along; You Yourself place us on the Path. ||2|| ਹੈ ਭੀ ਸਾਚਾ ਹੋਸੀ ਸੋਈ ॥ है भी साचा होसी सोई ॥ Hæ bʰee saachaa hosee so▫ee. The True Lord is, and shall always be. ਆਪੇ ਸਾਜੇ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥ आपे साजे अवरु न कोई ॥ Aapé saajé avar na ko▫ee. He Himself creates - there is no other at all. ਸਭਨਾ ਸਾਰ ਕਰੇ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਰਿਜਕੁ ਪਹੁਚਾਇਦਾ ॥੩॥ सभना सार करे सुखदाता आपे रिजकु पहुचाइदा ॥३॥ Sabʰnaa saar karé sukʰ▫ḋaaṫa aapé rijak pahuchaa▫iḋaa. ||3|| The Giver of peace takes care of all; He Himself sustains them. ||3|| ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਅਲਖ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥ अगम अगोचरु अलख अपारा ॥ Agam agochar alakʰ apaaraa. You are inaccessible, unfathomable, invisible and infinite; ਕੋਇ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਤੇਰਾ ਪਰਵਾਰਾ ॥ कोइ न जाणै तेरा परवारा ॥ Ko▫é na jaaṇæ ṫéraa parvaaraa. no one knows Your extent. ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣਹਿ ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਆਪਿ ਬੁਝਾਇਦਾ ॥੪॥ आपणा आपु पछाणहि आपे गुरमती आपि बुझाइदा ॥४॥ Aapṇaa aap pachʰaaṇėh aapé gurmaṫee aap bujʰaa▫iḋaa. ||4|| You Yourself realize Yourself. Through the Guru’s Teachings, You reveal Yourself. ||4|| ਪਾਤਾਲ ਪੁਰੀਆ ਲੋਅ ਆਕਾਰਾ ॥ पाताल पुरीआ लोअ आकारा ॥ Paaṫaal puree▫aa lo▫a aakaaraa. In the nether worlds, realms and worlds of form, ਤਿਸੁ ਵਿਚਿ ਵਰਤੈ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਕਰਾਰਾ ॥ तिसु विचि वरतै हुकमु करारा ॥ Ṫis vich varṫæ hukam karaaraa. Almighty! Your Command prevails in all of these. ਹੁਕਮੇ ਸਾਜੇ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਢਾਹੇ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੫॥ हुकमे साजे हुकमे ढाहे हुकमे मेलि मिलाइदा ॥५॥ Hukmé saajé hukmé dʰaahé hukmé mél milaa▫iḋaa. ||5|| By the Hukam of Your Command, You create, and by Your Command, You destroy. By Your Command, You unite in Union. ||5|| ਹੁਕਮੈ ਬੂਝੈ ਸੁ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਸਲਾਹੇ ॥ हुकमै बूझै सु हुकमु सलाहे ॥ Hukmæ boojʰæ so hukam salaahé. One who realizes Your Command, praises Your Command. ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੇ ॥ अगम अगोचर वेपरवाहे ॥ Agam agochar véparvaahé. You are Inaccessible, Unfathomable and Self-Sufficient. ਜੇਹੀ ਮਤਿ ਦੇਹਿ ਸੋ ਹੋਵੈ ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੁਝਾਇਦਾ ॥੬॥ जेही मति देहि सो होवै तू आपे सबदि बुझाइदा ॥६॥ Jéhee maṫ ḋėh so hovæ ṫoo aapé sabaḋ bujʰaa▫iḋaa. ||6|| As is the understanding You give, so do I become. You Yourself reveal the Shabad. ||6|| ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਆਰਜਾ ਛਿਜਦੀ ਜਾਏ ॥ अनदिनु आरजा छिजदी जाए ॥ An▫ḋin aarjaa chʰijḋee jaa▫é. Night and day, the days of our lives wear away. ਰੈਣਿ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਦੁਇ ਸਾਖੀ ਆਏ ॥ रैणि दिनसु दुइ साखी आए ॥ Ræṇ ḋinas ḋu▫é saakʰee aa▫é. Night and day both bear witness to this loss. ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਅੰਧੁ ਨ ਚੇਤੈ ਮੂੜਾ ਸਿਰ ਊਪਰਿ ਕਾਲੁ ਰੂਆਇਦਾ ॥੭॥ मनमुखु अंधु न चेतै मूड़ा सिर ऊपरि कालु रूआइदा ॥७॥ Manmukʰ anḋʰ na chéṫæ mooṛaa sir oopar kaal roo▫aa▫iḋaa. ||7|| The blind, foolish, self-willed Manmukh is not aware of this; death is hovering over his head. ||7|| ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਲਾਗਾ ॥ मनु तनु सीतलु गुर चरणी लागा ॥ Man ṫan seeṫal gur charṇee laagaa. The mind and body are cooled and soothed, holding tight to the Guru’s Feet. ਅੰਤਰਿ ਭਰਮੁ ਗਇਆ ਭਉ ਭਾਗਾ ॥ अंतरि भरमु गइआ भउ भागा ॥ Anṫar bʰaram ga▫i▫aa bʰa▫o bʰaagaa. Doubt is eliminated from within, and fear runs away. ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦੁ ਸਚੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਬਾਣੀ ਬੋਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੮॥ सदा अनंदु सचे गुण गावहि सचु बाणी बोलाइदा ॥८॥ Saḋaa anand saché guṇ gaavahi sach baṇee bolaa▫iḋaa. ||8|| One is in bliss forever, singing the Glorious Praises of the True Lord, and speaking the True Word of His Bani. ||8|| ਜਿਨਿ ਤੂ ਜਾਤਾ ਕਰਮ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ॥ जिनि तू जाता करम बिधाता ॥ Jin ṫoo jaaṫaa karam biḋʰaaṫaa. One who knows You as the Architect of Karma, ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥ पूरै भागि गुर सबदि पछाता ॥ Pooræ bʰaag gur sabaḋ pachʰaaṫaa. has the good fortune of perfect destiny, and recognizes the Word of the Guru’s Shabad. ਜਤਿ ਪਤਿ ਸਚੁ ਸਚਾ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਈ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੯॥ जति पति सचु सचा सचु सोई हउमै मारि मिलाइदा ॥९॥ Jaṫ paṫ sach sachaa sach so▫ee ha▫umæ maar milaa▫iḋaa. ||9|| The Lord, the Truest of the True, is his social class and honor. Conquering his ego, he is united with the Lord. ||9|| ਮਨੁ ਕਠੋਰੁ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਲਾਗਾ ॥ मनु कठोरु दूजै भाइ लागा ॥ Man katʰor ḋoojæ bʰaa▫é laagaa. The stubborn and insensitive mind is attached to the love of duality. ਭਰਮੇ ਭੂਲਾ ਫਿਰੈ ਅਭਾਗਾ ॥ भरमे भूला फिरै अभागा ॥ Bʰarmé bʰoolaa firæ abʰaagaa. Deluded by doubt, the unfortunate wander around in confusion. ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਸਹਜੇ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੦॥ करमु होवै ता सतिगुरु सेवे सहजे ही सुखु पाइदा ॥१०॥ Karam hovæ ṫaa saṫgur sévé sėhjé hee sukʰ paa▫iḋaa. ||10|| But if they are blessed by God’s Grace, they serve the True Guru, and easily obtain peace. ||10|| ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਆਪਿ ਉਪਾਏ ॥ लख चउरासीह आपि उपाए ॥ Lakʰ cha▫oraaseeh aap upaa▫é. He Himself created the 8.4 million species of beings. ਮਾਨਸ ਜਨਮਿ ਗੁਰ ਭਗਤਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ॥ मानस जनमि गुर भगति द्रिड़ाए ॥ Maanas janam gur bʰagaṫ driṛ▫aa▫é. Only in this human life, is devotional worship to the Guru implanted within. ਬਿਨੁ ਭਗਤੀ ਬਿਸਟਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਵਾਸਾ ਬਿਸਟਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੧॥ बिनु भगती बिसटा विचि वासा बिसटा विचि फिरि पाइदा ॥११॥ Bin bʰagṫee bistaa vich vaasaa bistaa vich fir paa▫iḋaa. ||11|| Without devotion, one lives in manure; he falls into manure again and again. ||11|| ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਗੁਰੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ॥ करमु होवै गुरु भगति द्रिड़ाए ॥ Karam hovæ gur bʰagaṫ driṛ▫aa▫é. If one is blessed with His Grace, devotional worship to the Guru is implanted within. ਵਿਣੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਕਿਉ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਏ ॥ विणु करमा किउ पाइआ जाए ॥ viṇ karmaa ki▫o paa▫i▫aa jaa▫é. Without God’s Grace, how can anyone find Him? ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਕਰਤਾ ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਵੈ ਚਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੨॥ आपे करे कराए करता जिउ भावै तिवै चलाइदा ॥१२॥ Aapé karé karaa▫é karṫaa ji▫o bʰaavæ ṫivæ chalaa▫iḋaa. ||12|| The Creator Himself acts, and inspires all to act; as He wills, he leads us on. ||12|| ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ॥ सिम्रिति सासत अंतु न जाणै ॥ Simriṫ saasaṫ anṫ na jaaṇæ. The Smritis and the Shastras do not know His limits. ਮੂਰਖੁ ਅੰਧਾ ਤਤੁ ਨ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥ मूरखु अंधा ततु न पछाणै ॥ Moorakʰ anḋʰaa ṫaṫ na pachʰaaṇæ. The blind fool does not recognize the essence of reality. ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੩॥ आपे करे कराए करता आपे भरमि भुलाइदा ॥१३॥ Aapé karé karaa▫é karṫaa aapé bʰaram bʰulaa▫iḋaa. ||13|| The Creator Himself acts, and inspires all to act; He Himself deludes with doubt. ||13|| ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਏ ॥ सभु किछु आपे आपि कराए ॥ Sabʰ kichʰ aapé aap karaa▫é. He Himself causes everything to be done. ਆਪੇ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਧੰਧੈ ਲਾਏ ॥ आपे सिरि सिरि धंधै लाए ॥ Aapé sir sir ḋʰanḋʰæ laa▫é. He Himself joins each and every person to his tasks. ਆਪੇ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪੇ ਵੇਖੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਪਿ ਬੁਝਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੪॥ आपे थापि उथापे वेखै गुरमुखि आपि बुझाइदा ॥१४॥ Aapé ṫʰaap uṫʰaapé vékʰæ gurmukʰ aap bujʰaa▫iḋaa. ||14|| He Himself establishes and disestablishes, and watches over all; He reveals Himself to the Gurmukh. ||14|| ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਗਹਿਰ ਗੰਭੀਰਾ ॥ सचा साहिबु गहिर ग्मभीरा ॥ Sachaa saahib gahir gambʰeeraa. The True Lord and Master is profoundly deep and unfathomable. ਸਦਾ ਸਲਾਹੀ ਤਾ ਮਨੁ ਧੀਰਾ ॥ सदा सलाही ता मनु धीरा ॥ Saḋaa salaahee ṫaa man ḋʰeeraa. Praising Him forever, the mind is comforted and consoled. ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੫॥ अगम अगोचरु कीमति नही पाई गुरमुखि मंनि वसाइदा ॥१५॥ Agam agochar keemaṫ nahee paa▫ee gurmukʰ man vasaa▫iḋaa. ||15|| He is inaccessible and unfathomable; His value cannot be estimated. He dwells in the mind of the Gurmukh. ||15|| ਆਪਿ ਨਿਰਾਲਮੁ ਹੋਰ ਧੰਧੈ ਲੋਈ ॥ आपि निरालमु होर धंधै लोई ॥ Aap niraalam hor ḋʰanḋʰæ lo▫ee. He Himself is detached; all others are entangled in their affairs. ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋਈ ॥ गुर परसादी बूझै कोई ॥ Gur parsaadee boojʰæ ko▫ee. By Guru’s Grace, one comes to understand Him. ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੬॥੩॥੧੭॥ नानक नामु वसै घट अंतरि गुरमती मेलि मिलाइदा ॥१६॥३॥१७॥ Naanak naam vasæ gʰat anṫar gurmaṫee mél milaa▫iḋaa. ||16||3||17|| O Nanak! The Naam, the Name of the Lord, comes to dwell deep within the heart; through the Guru’s Teachings, one is united in His Union. ||16||3||17||
